How many sexual partners have you had?

Was just thinking about past sexual partners/encounters and wondering what the average number is. I've just totted it up and I've slept with 20 men. It sounds quite a lot but not sure if it's more or less than average. How many people have you slept with? (I'm 40 btw, and with same partner for last 12 years).

I've just turned 32 and I have been with my DH for 6 years including him I've slept with 7 people

Just one but I’d say that was more unusual than 20! I just happened to have stuck with my first sexual partner for the past 20 odd years.

Thanks for the replies. I didn't really know what to expect so glad I'm kind of in the middle! Also quite glad I can remember them all, although, there are a couple I'd rather forget

1 for me and 1 for my wife - 39 years (36 married). Met as teenagers and I went to her 18th. Honestly never wondered what it would be like with others, same for my wife. 6 months after we met we had sex for the first time, both worried and clueless but we have found our way together over the years. Apart from the young children years where exhaustion took over we have had a very active sex life and still do.

1. I'm 44 and have tended to long relationships. Wish I had sampled more wares TBH, when I was younger, but I didnt have the confidence then.

I've lost count. Not on purpose but because relationships havent worked out.

I lost count too. I'm 58 and still very active and having fun.

Early 40s and l was an early bloomer. There are 2 issues here that l will never understand. I don’t get why people say “slept with” when they mean “had sex with”. The numbers for both won’t balance with me. I’ve had sex with people I’ve never slept with and I’ve slept with people l’ve never had sex with.

Secondly, there is not a scoreboard on my bedroom wall and l wasn’t aware it was a counting game. There have been a fair number (well into double figures and more than the OP), l’m happy, always use condoms and no regrets. Fewer this year but that has been impacted on by lockdown.

16 and I’m 43. 12 of these have been in the last 10 years since divorce, definitely regret 10 of those 12.

51 between 18 and 34. In hindsight, rape as my first experience of sex did rather impact on my attitude towards myself and my subsequent sexual activities.

@starlightlady "slept with" is I suppose an outdated term, but one everyone understands hence why I used it. I didn't sleep with all the people I have had sex with either and I certainly don't have a scoreboard above my bed, or anywhere! I'm not suggesting anyone does, I was just really curious as to what the rough average was.

I love the idea of some couples only being with each other their whole lives. Although knowing what I'm like I think I would always wonder what other people were like.

@Athrawes yes I definitely think rape and assault change attitudes to sex and your self esteem. I'm sorry you went through that.

@MummyDummyNow - Yes, l appreciate “slept with” is a figure of speech, l just think we could all help the world move on. Having sex (with consent) is a good thing.

I always find it odd as well, when people try and place an acceptable time (in terms of dates) before you hit the sack. I’ve always felt the key ingredient is passion, which is not linked to a clock.

My own sister met her now husband at a mutual friend’s wedding. They have been married for years, and she bedded him within hours of their first meeting. See what happens when you have a wedding in an hotel!

As for those who have only had one or 2 partners. Every person feels different and that would not be for me.
