Which schools are you aiming for on the Wirral? I grew up near there and my mum worked with lots of Wirral schools. Good luck!

troppibambini6 · 20/10/2025 22:02

@littlemisssunshine32 hopefully yours has come through by now I know some took a while to come through. We got ours at 3.30.

troppibambini6 · 20/10/2025 22:04

@Schoolhelp23im sorry things didn’t go the way you had hoped

Congratulations and commiserations to everyone today.

I think I'm the only Wirral-waiter on the thread. Results tomorrow. When DD1 sat it, the results came about 10.30am.

I hardly slept last night... Was watching videos on how to solve the new GL type question in the NVR. A bit bloomin late for that! 🤣

Roll on tomorrow.

Edited

I'm on the Wirral and following this thread...even though my son took the test last year! His results came through at 6:20am!!

DD1 is at West Kirby. It's such a fab school.

troppibambini6 · 20/10/2025 22:43

@littlemisssunshine32 that’s fab news!! Well done to your ds! Is Ambrose your first choice or are you waiting to see what the consortium bring?

PreachyG · 21/10/2025 01:10

DolphinOnASkateboard · 20/10/2025 11:26

Any joy, @PreachyG ?

We wrote to admission council and they sent the email quite quickly. Unfortunately DS missed the cut off by a very narrow margin.

Thanks! It is our first choice but we’re Category 8, so a bit of a long shot sadly! But yes waiting on consortium results too…are you?

Lamarais · 21/10/2025 06:38

Congrats to everyone who has had good news!

Is there anywhere else like Herts where even having the result doesn’t give you a definitive answer?! It’s so frustrating to have to wait until March to be certain. We are now in the position of “likely” based on previous years results but this year could be different. Still waiting on Dame Alice which is marginally better because if you rank top 65 you have a guaranteed place but rankings 80-120 are again in “maybe” territory. Feels like spending half the year in a sort of suspended limbo. Our son is like “Did I get in?” and we have no answer!

Yes, Wirral non-catholic grammars are the same. It's a pass/fail for the eleven plus (as long as you pass, score doesn't matter), and then there's the usual allocation (looked after kids, siblings etc.) then distance from school. So you find out in March at the same time as the non-selective schools.

Ahh equally stressful. Here it is not pass fail. It’s - here is your score. And here is the lowest score that got a place for the last few years. Compare your score to see if you have a chance and apply accordingly. Thing is, you just don’t know what will change each year. This year my thought is that the score to get in may be higher as more kids may choose it over an independent school due to those schools now being financially out of reach. And we won’t know that until March.

At Henrietta Barnett they don't even tell you your final score. Or even your round 1 score. Just whether or not you are in the top 300 in round 1. So you have to apply without knowing what your score is or what a good enough score is. Luckily there's more certainty over her 2nd and 3rd choices which she'd be happy with. I suppose it's just as uncertain when you're applying to distance based schools though. And even after March there are waiting lists.

CheerfulMuddler · 21/10/2025 08:32

All these systems seem so stressful.
Liverpool is very straightforward. Top 180 kids get a guaranteed place. Next 40 get a ranking. If you're ~10-40 in the rankings, you have a stressful few months, but the other 1000+ applicants all know where they stand.
I suppose there's less competition over here - only one grammar school in Liverpool and very few private schools. People definitely do take the test and don't take the place, but it's not like London where kids sit three grammars and four independents then pick one.

Sorry to hear that. Worth going for selection review?

slaybell · 21/10/2025 08:47

Congratulations to everyone who has had good news so far.

Trafford Consortium folk: Do you think we could get results today or is that wishful thinking? Last year was the Tuesday but we did get a definitive date and time in the preceding email. This time was a very vague ‘mid-week’ which in my mind is anywhere Tuesday-Thursday.

Also waiting on Loreto which just says before 22nd.

Hiddenmyname · 21/10/2025 09:29

I'm on the Wirral and waiting! My eldest always wanted to go to a private school so we were never nervous when the 11 plus results came out for him - would have just meant he had a choice to make (he didn't in the end). My middle son really wants to go to the local grammar even though he's been offered a place privately. I'm dreading the results as he will be so upset. He's been offered a scholarship but that doesn't always translate to doing well in the 11 plus so I'm nervy.

My eldest's year we got them at 3.30pm, last year it was 6.30am... I heard from numerous people they send them out by primary school alphabetically!! Crazy, it's not like the system will crash in today's modern tech age!

I feel confident Trafford will be tomorrow as the true mid week day- also it’s the 22nd tomorrow and the results were out on the 22nd last year. I wonder if Loreto will come today though. Good luck for them both, I’m so nervous!!!

Can't believe they're not out yet on the Wirral! I just assumed last year's early time was usual. Hopefully not too much longer for you all to wait.
(I'm not waiting for my own child this year but a few friends are)

Someone told me they normally send them either before school or after because in the past parents have showed up at the school in the middle of the day to tell their kids they passed!! Unsure how true that is but it makes some sense... however that may just be specific to our primary 😂

Oh gosh! Maybe a few more hours wait for you then...

duckydoo234 · 21/10/2025 11:29

I'm waiting too (irrelevant now since we got Liverpool Blue Coat, but still interested). With my previous child, I got the Wirral results around 11:30, so could be any minute now!

troppibambini6 · 21/10/2025 12:16

@littlemisssunshine32 I’m curious to see how he’s done on the consortium but he will be going to Ambrose. His brother is there and they want to be together can’t wait to tell his brother tonight when he gets back from his residential!

A friend who is also a tutor called last night to see how Ds had done and she thought the consortium would be today. It was the day after Ambrose last year but I wouldn’t say Tuesday is midweek so who knows?!

I just want this to be over for everyone now!!

A test result section has appeared in Applicaa for Trafford consortium but no results uploaded yet 😬
