We're just back from an open morning at one of the Bexley grammars-results are going to be out 9am tomorrow apparently. Top 180 minimum scores are going to be high this year according to him.

I really hope we can see the Bexley results at 9am tomorrow! Don’t want to be waiting around all day for it to only be released end of day. Have so much anxiety as it is, just want to know one way or another - just so can move on! Feel like we have been standstill for such a long time, not knowing which direction we are heading.

Couldn't agree more!

Oh that's great to hear about the twins' interview, what an adventure. And that 1:1 recommendation is really outstanding dolphin, I hope it does the trick.

We have that open morning tomorrow at 9:15 - looks like we will be finding out the Bexley result at around the same time as arriving for the open morning. Terrible timing - feel like I can’t take DS now and I will have to look at it without him. How awful for him to get there and potentially find out he hasn’t passed at exactly the same time. We’d have to turn round and come home. Such bad timing and obviously all the other open mornings later in the week for this school are fully booked. I only booked this date as I was convinced the results would be out by now!

This is very tricky but I would still take him tomorrow.

Schoolhelp23 · 13/10/2025 14:51

@SFV Yes that's true! GCH is a comp school (a really good one) so we'd only find out on national offer day. Do you think we're likely to get St M's results next Fri, or sooner?

AmIAloneInThinking · 13/10/2025 14:51

I decided against taking my son this morning-just don't think it's fair on him. The funny thing is that I really didn't like the school too much!

afternoonofthetriffids · 13/10/2025 14:56

I’m torn - obviously I want him to see the school but agree I don’t think it’s fair. He’s only ten and he worked so hard. Of course there is every chance he did really well and I’m worrying over nothing! But aware also other parents and kids could be finding out whilst we are there and I don’t necessarily want to expose him to that either.

macaroniart · 13/10/2025 15:04

It's very frustrating, it would be much better to just release them tonight rather than when school visits are scheduled. I agree, it will be awful to turn around and come home again. But fingers crossed he has passed and if you love the school maybe another spot will open up and he can squeeze into that?

That’s a good point actually. Presumably spots will open up later in the week from students who have not been given a selective place.

This is a good point. It is likely some spaces will become available so depending on the outcome I can try to get a cancellation. Great - feeling much less stressed now.

AmIAloneInThinking · 13/10/2025 16:01

FYI Chis and Sid open day bookings open at 0930 tomorrow morning

Purpletoes · 13/10/2025 16:23

Thanks for the update so hopefully results 1st thing lets hope the site doesn't crash .

If the gs that has open days today and tommorrow the school i think it is that is the one my Ds picked it wasnt top of my list but I cant fault their wide curriculum and opportunties or the pastoral care.

My DS was overwhelmed at the start of Y7 and they spotted it immediately and helped him with strageties and people he could reach out to. He is not one of the top sporty kids but has found his own little niche.

I feel sure it's the same one! Have to say I was quite shocked by the state of some of the buildings and facilities; the library is non existent and there's no dining hall?! It was like a large corridor 😕 I was worried about the lack of quiet spaces and the classrooms were very cramped. Lunchtime seemed to be a bit 'grab and go' with the boys then milling around the school with food. Really uninspired by the head as well who seemed to use his airtime to slag off the other grammars. . . .

Then again, I was encouraged by the breadth of GCSE options and clearly the school get the results 🤷‍♀️

Purpletoes · 13/10/2025 16:52

Yes the buildings for ks3 and 4 are tired the new sixth form is lovely. The lunchtimes they are staggered with period times and each year has an area to use. Yes the head isnt great in his speeches but to be honest not had any interaction since. The teachers are very helpful and enthusiastic.

BGS I do wonder what's going to happen with its 6th form with the withdrawl of the additional IB funding.

AmIAloneInThinking · 13/10/2025 16:55

Really helpful to have the first hand experience-thank you! Yes I was wondering about the IB funding. . . . DGS (Kent) also lean heavily on the sell of being an IB school

Tea4216 · 13/10/2025 17:01

Has anyone had their results for CSSE? What is the minimum they should get for a guaranteed offer?

Yes, came through at 4pm on the dot. If you look under FOI on the CSSE website you can see what the minimum needed last year was for each school. However, as I understand it, achieving the minimum doesn't guarantee an offer due to the number of places available.

Tea4216 · 13/10/2025 17:44

@DoraDont thank you! How did everyone get on with CSSE? I haven’t checked yet but will post once I have

The pessimist in me says they'll wait until Friday afternoon, right before half term! Best case, Thursday i think...

Icantpeopleanymore · 13/10/2025 18:57

Checking in for the first time....I have to admit to reading the whole thread but not really understanding most of it! I feel like I'm in a different world to most of you, I'm in Kent, DS sat the Kent test, results out Thursday at some point...been very stressful seeing all the local non grammar schools because we don't have a hope of getting our closest 3, we are just a tiny bit too far away.

He is autistic and sometimes struggles with school, secondary is where it could all go wrong. Before I started looking I wasn't too worried, but having seen the journey he's going to have to do to the schools he's likely to get into if he doesn't pass, I'm worried now! The schools themselves all have good things going for them, but the ones closer to us are so oversubscribed it's crazy.

I didn't do any prep with him until the July of this year and only then a little bit, one CGP book, just so he knew what to expect.
He could get a staff place at my grammar school, or there's a grammar in walking distance of somewhere I could drive him to possibly on my way to work, at a stretch. Getting home is a whole other issue!

Starting to get quite anxious, although I've been a ball of stress for weeks now really. Just need to know one way or the other!

All the other systems you're all dealing with sound crazy to me! Agree that it's so much to put on 10 year olds, which is why I kept it as casual as possible. Might backfire...

Ahmawa · 13/10/2025 19:49

Results are out,

macaroniart · 13/10/2025 19:54
