Anyone knows when the SET result for Sutton schools will be out. Many children said exam was easy. I wonder how many will get through the first round and how hard will be the second stage

My son just admitted to us that he didn’t write a plan nor did he use paragraphs for his creative writing yesterday! Is the plan a must? Will they give marks for the plan? Husband is panicking now!

I don’t think planning gets any marks (based on marking schemes I’ve seen across various mock papers). Paragraphs carry marks, so he might lose that - but he will only lose the specific couple of marks for it. It won’t reduce his overall marks for creativity, vocabulary, SPAG etc. Mine didn’t put a title (after having spent hours agonising over titles!) - I’m trying not to think about it Confused

Thank you so much. That’s nice to hear!

Hey from the experience of attending so many mocks and actual exams, I haven’t seen even one instance where planning gets marks. Also planning is to help the actual piece of work. Also last year in one of the exam, it was mentioned that they don’t expect kids to finish the paper.

Thank you! Very helpful to know!

Hi! Just curious , on the results day next week for boys, will all of the 3 boys’ grammar schools email you regardless your son passes or not? Or will just the schools your son passes will write you?

You will receive separate emails from all 3 schools letting you know whether you qualify or not. Boys who do not qualify get their scores. Boys who qualify do NOT get their scores.

My DD too forgot to put any title as she was stressed out with reduced time etc..I also felt the topic was too “creative” for a 10 yr old child..Trying not to stress out!😎

FitnessIsTheOnlyWealth · 08/10/2025 16:58

@fitnessisthenewmantra - looks like we fitness-mums should hang out together in the 'forgot to put title' club! ha ha

lol..I wish both of them good luck and hope they both sail through 🤞🏼

I had no idea they get marks for a title - really?!?

Does anyone know if it’s the same
for the girls in terms of getting emails from both schools? Or do they just get one email on behalf of both?

Btw for girls emails means nothing. They send emails to 95 percent of kids. (Most who say in second round). From around 1100 kids, only 400 will get seats. You can look at the freedom of request information on non such girls school website

It is the same for both boys and girls.

Yes, presumably some of the girls would go to grammar schools of other borough or Private schools. Similar situation for boys I guess. I have been told by a friend whose daughter is in a private school , that the teachers in her private school there want the pupils to use SET as free mock tests.

Secondaryspectator · 13/10/2025 16:57

Only 40-50 percent of boys who write second stage get email from Wilson’s. That’s not the case for girls

This is incredibly useful to know in terms of expectation management. It’s like they enjoy making it as uncertain for parents as they possibly can! I’ve heard from last year don’t get any useful accompanying information either such as score or rank.

It wasn’t like this before. Everyone used to get marks. But they changed from last year and so
many girls we know unfortunately didn’t get seat on national offer day insipite of getting emails saying they are Elinor finally for both schools. They should Atleast reduce the number of emails they sent. It’s just going to be massive disappointment for so
many kids and parents for girls school. 400 seats for 1087 kids who all got emails that they are qualified to apply.

In the quoted response from Nonsuch (the link) it says they offered 53 places to OOC girls. They have 85 seats (with no catchment). So is it fair to assume that 53 of these went to OOC applicants and 32 might have gone to in-catchment applicants? Which then implies that off the 155 offered to in-catchment 32 came from the ‘open merit’ list and the remaining 123 from the in-catchment list. A bit of unnecessary but insightful analysis.
would love to know the numbers for Wallington.

The 85 places for both Wallington and Nonsuch are not specifically for OOC . They are for the 85 top scorers whether they are OOC or IC. So yes the remaining places would have been IC students. I can't find where I saw the information and it may be incorrect, but I think one year Wallington had just under 40 pupils OOC.

FitnessIsTheOnlyWealth · 15/10/2025 08:15

@Sportie7 putting together all this info, it looks like around ~100 girls across both schools OOC (out of ~400 seats). That’s a rather small number and worries me! You’d need to be in the top 100 OOC scorers to get into either. Looks tougher than I had imagined.

my child answered one part of the CL question well but only wrote a second part.
