Sutton SET Result

Anyone knows when the SET result for Sutton schools will be out. Many children said exam was easy. I wonder how many will get through the first round and how hard will be the second stage

So my DS said the stage 2 English test was an unexpected format! Did anyone else’s think the same? He is so worried 😟

Same, my son said all boys around him were not feeling too confident (and him too!)

trying29 · 04/10/2025 13:07

yes! that was the first thing my son said - it wasn't what he expected at all. he was so angry

My son found maths quite straight foward, more Atom standard than the EPP standard. English was another matter.....

trying29 · 04/10/2025 13:34

The maths was easier than we had practised my son said. It was easier than EPP or Examberry which a mum of a girl who sat last week had already warned me about. I wonder why they changed the English....

PrettyBigThings · 04/10/2025 13:40

At no point did they ever promise what the English format would be. I for one am pleased they are trying to mix it up - clearly trying to undermine the overly tutored kids.

Exactly what my wife said.

trying29 · 04/10/2025 13:48

no-one said they promised it. and your assumption is that all kids are over tutored. we just did at home work. it's tricky enough with no past papers and no information anywhere - no wonder people ask previous years' cohorts what came up.

PrettyBigThings · 04/10/2025 13:52

Of course but this is their attempt to level the playing field. It can only be a positive thing plus they want kids able to think on their feet - which points more to innate ability than prescriptive tutoring.

trying29 · 04/10/2025 13:55

I don't necessarily think it's a bad idea but it's already an extremely stressful and tense situation for 10/11 year olds and I worry about putting them on the spot like that. I just think it's an awful lot on their shoulders. My son barely had time to read through his answers

It is an absolutely horrific process full stop for them - fully agree. But I could find very little about stage 2 on the school website. Relying on anything more is just school gate chat.

trying29 · 04/10/2025 14:11

I guess I relied lots on exam paper plus stage 2 papers.
Good luck for those on reserve day and for those of us done now - we can be very proud of the children whatever the outcome

Susanforarthur · 04/10/2025 15:55

My son said the math was easy and he was quite confident about that. For English, he did one page and a bit. Now we just have to wait for the results to come out. According to last year’s timelines, I assume it’s going to be 16 Oct Thursday for the emails of the schools to reach the parents. Is that right? Fingers crossed!

Dontknowmuchanymore · 04/10/2025 17:54

Did the girl parents report the same on the English for stage 2? As in a different/unusual format? My DD did this and seems to think it was a bit out of the box. Just seeing if she got it totally wrong!

Emotionalday · 04/10/2025 19:22

Mine was miles away from finishing the paper😓but he felt happy about his performance. I'm not sure what I should do first: stressing about results in 2 weeks time or celebrating his optimism...

Yes it was a bit of a ‘creative’ one for girls too and there was a lot of discussion around ‘what was the question exactly’ and ‘how did you interpret it’. My DD gave it last week.

Secondaryspectator · 04/10/2025 22:05

I think good thing is most kids will be at more or less same level and you just have to do better than others and not score maximum marks. The issue happens if you only prepare for one format and than you are cooked

Really helpful to know! Will be looking out for emails from that Wednesday! Thank you!

Susanforarthur · 05/10/2025 21:09

My son just admitted to us that he didn’t write a plan nor did he use paragraphs for his creative writing yesterday! Is the plan a must? Will they give marks for the plan? Husband is panicking now!

Hey from the experience of attending so many mocks and actual exams, I haven’t seen even one instance where planning gets marks. Also planning is to help the actual piece of work. Also last year in one of the exam, it was mentioned that they don’t expect kids to finish the paper.
