Starting this thread for people with children applying to the Brit School year 10 entry 2025.

Best of luck to all the kids.

I agree they should have announced the curriculum changes before applications; as this may not suit everyone; and it is true that is putting all the eggs in one basket too early in their studies. They really have to be sure of the path they want to take, and they are only 14. My career didn’t become clear until I was 17.

People can still decline the places if not suitable anymore but wouldn’t have gone through the whole process if knew earlier.

Yes, this is how I feel. I was prepared to support the application because DS would still have options to take other A levels if he decided that theatre is not for him long term. At the open day we made a point to speak to the MFL, Science and Maths teachers and got reassurance that academic subjects were also important and that Brit could offer a balanced education at KS4, with the added benefit of this specialised and targeted environment. To switch the curriculum so completely at this stage of applications is really disappointing and puts us in a really tricky position if DS gets a place.

My DS isn't even 14 till August. So to reduce his options so much on the basis of what he liked when he was just a couple of months past 13 (at time of application) feels way too soon.

Ejulesd · 01/03/2025 19:06

The new offer suits my daughter. She is more creative and her current school doesn't offer as much creative choice so she would have to take subjects that she isn't as interested in. She would only be able to take 2 creative choices.
If she got in and one day when she's older if wants to take some of those other subjects then she can take them later. My sister-in-law did that when she decided to study physio.
Wishing everyone all the best and I'm sure you'll all make the best decision for your child at the time.

LarryUnderwood · 01/03/2025 19:46

Yes I'm sure it will be great for some kids, just wish they'd communicated it before the application deadline.

Ballak1 · 03/03/2025 22:36

I haven’t received anything about a change of curriculum - is this for particular strands or across the whole of Brit KS4?

Elifee · 04/03/2025 04:56

I’m not sure if its just for the music strand, but sounds like its for all strands to me. See below.
……………………………
At Key Stage 4 students at BRIT chose one arts area to specialise in, their ‘strand', which is dedicated to developing artistic, creative and technical skills through workshops, events, visits, rehearsals, masterclasses, performances and productions that make up part of the unique BRIT School educational experience. In 2025 we will be launching the UAL Level 2 Diploma at Key Stage 4 which mirrors the Level 3 Extended Diploma delivered at Post 16. This industry recognised qualification is worth 4 GCSEs and so we have created more time for you to study your chosen art form in more depth and with an even more professional approach.

English, Maths and Science are a compulsory backbone to your education and these 5 GCSEs are in our core delivery, as you would get in most secondary schools. All of these core subjects were visited by Ofsted in their recent inspections and are all part of the ‘Outstanding’ judgement of quality of education. At The BRIT School we will also offer an additional option in an arts or humanities subject, or an offer of support for English and/or Maths, if required. You will be taking up to 10 GCSEs in Year 11.
In addition to all of this, your portfolio will also include Professional Skills classes, so all learners develop their 21st Century learning in digital/entrepreneurial skills fit for specific industry requirements and Personal Development lessons that include our RE programme -Ethics Beliefs and Culture (EBC) and our PE programme BRIT Fit.

Congratulations to your daughter too. 🌼
Thank you, she’s already there. She knew Evan from Brit kids 😀 x

Aumkha · 11/03/2025 08:15

Congratulations to all who got in and if you don't get in, there still another chance in yr 11 which they will take more kids in. My dd applied for MT but she didn't get in, we haven't received the email yet but I checked her application and found the link to appeal. 😭😭😭 I haven't told her yet will wait for her to find out in the email, may be today. X

Emilyh91xxxx · 11/03/2025 09:15

My dd didn’t get in to mt she got offered reserve , wonder if there is any chance of it happening or to just forget it now , bet they offer everyone reserve !

Munn68 · 11/03/2025 10:20

My DD got on the MT reserve list. We are out of area, so knew it was a long shot, but we are so proud of her for getting this far! No idea how many on the reserve list, but we'll just wait and see what happens now. Congratulations to all of those offered a place. xx

Wontonsoup1 · 11/03/2025 10:24

I’ve just heard my daughter got a place on the VAD course! 🥳

Good luck to everyone still waiting x

FirmGreyBiscuit · 11/03/2025 10:33

We're waiting to hear for the theatre strand but in the application, can see a link to appeal. Is anyone else on the theatre strand seeing this? Is it just the default next step in the process before they update with outcomes, or is it likely a signal that the application has been rejected already? Any info on what others can see is greatly appreciated.

I'm seeing the same thing, but offer status still says pending.

wandsworth25 · 11/03/2025 11:00

We saw the same thing yesterday and received an email that DD is on the reserve list this morning. I think it would not show if they are sending you an offer but is not necessarily a "no", most likely it can be reserve list as well. Fingers crossed.
