Hi! for those of you who had your workshop today - I hope it went well, I was wondering if there is anywhere to wait around at the school? is the canteen accessible?... We have a workshop first thing but the interview is only around midday.

You have to to the main reception area, there will be kids from yr12 who do the register and guide you. After the interview we were told to go and wait in the canteen until the workshop which only kids gone and we carried on waiting in the canteen until they finished (almost 1pm). Good luck. For the other strand they will be similar but all the parents were waiting in the canteen mainly.

Can’t believe today has finally come! DD is super nervous- she has her music solo, music theory, aural and interview today - best of luck to everyone who has interviews this week!

Autumnleavescolors · 27/02/2025 12:34

Workshop and interview done. Now to wait 3 weeks.

Wondering if they were doing all the performing arts today or if there is another day.

I asked the interviewers- she said for the music strand they are seeing 40 candidates per day x3 days so 120 overall for 25 places! Good luck my DD said her audition went well but the other kids she heard warming up in her group were amazing so the competition is very fierce!

No idea; wondering if they are doing it over 3 days too. There are 50 places I believe

We've just had our workshop and interview. My DD said she prefer not to know how many candidates were being interviewed for the VAD strand because it'll just add to her anxiety. So I'll have to manage mine by not knowing. So glad is over.

Best of luck to anyone x

Ballak1 · 28/02/2025 13:16

From what I know, MT strand are auditioning 150 children for 25 places. Good luck everyone!

DS had his interview today for theatre, he thinks workshop went well but felt he could have done better in the interview. So hard to say, just need to wait and see. Personally I am really cross that they've changed the curriculum post application, the offer is so much narrower now and I wouldn't have been so happy for him to apply if I'd known. I asked about what the choices would be for the 1 GCSE option and from memory it's geography, history, photography, sociology, drama, art, music (I could be wrong about those). But they are definitely losing MFL completely which I think is dreadful. So I now am really in two minds, it's so narrow compared to the offer they advertised in the prospectus.

Yeah - I agree - they must have known about the change in the course before this week? I think they should have sent written notification about the change of course and option content, before announcing it during the interview process.

My DD had wanted to do a third science, Spanish and further maths, none are now available- she mentioned really wanting to study these subjects only then to be told during the interview she couldn't - which threw us both!

Having said that she'd love to spend 6.5 hours per week doing music, so I think she'd still bite their hand off if they offered her a place, but it is putting all her eggs in one basket at a very early age!

wandsworth25 · 01/03/2025 09:02

@LarryUnderwood DD felt the same about the day, enjoyed the workshop, interview was more difficult than expected. We asked about the curriculum change but they were a bit vague and said they were still working things out. We didn't get such specific information. Is it definitely confirmed that triple science and / or further maths are not going to be options anymore? I thought they'd have to offer triple science at least.

We are fine with the number of GCSEs but the problem is if you only have one extra choice and they do not guarantee that you even get your first choice, that creates a problem. I thought if you get to choose 3 subjects extra, you should get at least 2 out of 3. But if you get to choose only one and do not get this one, that definitely becomes very limiting.

Yes I specifically asked about the third science- we had the head of year as part of DD's interview panel and she confirmed they will only be offering combined science and further maths is doubtful!

LarryUnderwood · 01/03/2025 13:31

Yes, I asked specifically about triple science and Spanish and they confirmed neither are available. I think it's really disappointing and the more I think about it the more I secretly hope he doesn't get a place as I think it would be a shame to lose other subjects he loves and excels at to prioritise just one subject he loves, when he can do that as extracurricular.

Autumnleavescolors · 01/03/2025 16:03

Haven’t read the email. What are the GCSE changes? And the reasons for it.

Brit2025 · 01/03/2025 16:55

The Brit school has decided to change to the UAL level 2 Diploma for KS4 - the difference is that their previous course was only equivalent to 1 gcse and the kids did 2 hours per week studying for that strand - now the qualification will be taught in more depth so they will study for 6.5 hours per week and the qualification will be equivalent to 4 gcses's

Ahh, thank you. And how many of the other subjects.

I read in another thread that people complained there wasn’t many hours of the chosen strand and too much focus on GCSE. It is difficult really to keep everyone happy.

I think DD will be happy with the change.
