Maths paper 1 here too. DDs worst subject but she just needs a 4...

DippyDoo98 · 15/05/2024 16:14

Yay! She came out with a huge smile and said the AQA history paper was great! Another one who loves history and would like it to be an A level choice.
Hard day tomorrow with 2 exams- RE (another favourite) and maths.
I’ve suggested an early night but not likely to happen!

Popfan · 15/05/2024 16:14

If someone offered a 4 for DS in maths I'd rip their arm off! He should be OK as he has pulled his marks up recently but it's definitely not a given. The thought of him having to resit English and maths fills me with horror!

StarShipControl · 15/05/2024 16:17

Computer science was ok, apparently though about 40% were guesses for ds. Oh well, big difference to the mocks where he could barely answer anything.

JessyCarr · 15/05/2024 16:22

AQA Psychology 1 was apparently straightforward, the only surprise being a 9-marker on a brain development topic which more usually comes up in Paper 2.

Yes same for dd

DramaLlamaBangBang · 15/05/2024 16:24

Ds said he ' did a masterpiece' for the 16 marker for history but was a bit more hit and muss on a couple of the 4 mark questions. He's panicking about RE as he wants to concentrate on maths

JessyCarr · 15/05/2024 16:25

Oh I love “did a masterpiece” @DramaLlamaBangBang! Words to warm a mother’s heart ❤️

Spacecowboys · 15/05/2024 16:31

Ds is stressing me out. Hasn’t done anywhere near the amount of revision I would have expected. Maths and RS tomorrow then Chemistry and Geography on Friday.

IamSlave · 15/05/2024 16:39

Apparently aqa history has been asking different questions?.my dd aqa was different to fiends son aqa?

Wehaditsogood · 15/05/2024 16:43

Booksandflowers · 15/05/2024 15:52

Can I ask a question? Is it easier to get a 5 (top grade) in the foundation paper or a 5 in the higher paper?

According to DS the maths foundation paper covers fewer or more basic topics.
Slight warning: Their teacher thinks that people who move down from higher sometimes overcomplicate the answers.

3 exams down this week, another 3 to go.
We suggested to DS to focus on maths and chemistry (both on his A-level targets), and spend minimal effort on geography (that he doesn't like).

Schools can pick between 4 topics for each section of the paper. I assume they’re at different schools?

There's lots of different options so different schools may have different questions.

Curlyshabtree · 15/05/2024 16:52

Yes Maths paper 1 tomorrow. This where my dts have conflict. Dts really struggles with Maths but has been working really hard and is predicted a 6. Dtd loves Maths and is predicted a 9, which has caused Dts some frustration! He hates that she just gets it! I remind him that I resat my GCSE Maths (foundation) 2 years ago and passed (got a 4) so if I can do it, so can he!!

Newlease · 15/05/2024 16:53

CS was okay here, didn’t do much for the algorithm virus question she said. They all did badly on it. Otherwise it was good
Maths tomorrow, one of her easy ones, so more worried about score than other papers!
So far it’s gone well, she’s all smiles and happy which then makes me happy too!
And then Friday Geo and Chemistry
So glad History went well for them all, so many choosing it for A Levels as well.. O have only started liking war stories and watch/read about it recently, with an effort to know more about it! ( did nothing of that sort in school)

My understanding is that it's easier to get a 5 on the foundation paper. This is not just maths but any of the subjects which are split into foundation and higher.

Waspie · 15/05/2024 17:06

DS did OCR Psychology and said it was the hardest paper so far but only because some of the question wording seemed designed to confuse. He was still pretty happy with it.

He did EDUQAS for History (although the syllabus seems pretty identical to Edexcel) today was Germany and Elizabethan papers. The said the questions were unusual in that Weimar Germany didn't come up at all (and it's a third of the course). Also, no questions on rebellion or Mary Queens of Scots in the other paper and again, this is a large chunk of the topic. He said it caught a lot of his class mates out and they are not very happy.

Yes this is what happened when DS moved down. They don't teach the basic stuff in the higher, so when he was doing the foundation, he thought he'd done the easy things wrong, but found the higher level stuff ( which is the easy stuff at higher level iyswim) easier. He ws spending ages overthinking 1 and 2 mark questions. Hopefully he'd been in foundation a bit longer now so would have worked through the lower level stuff.

I hope the AQA paper isn't the same. DS literally loved Weimar Germany ( as in many dinner table conversations about how great the Weimar Republic was!)

MamOfTwo · 15/05/2024 17:32

Our Eduqas was Elizabethan and USA today. Think it was the most nerve wrecking one for her so far as A-level choice and so much to get down on the paper. Currently doing Maths paper - there is just no breathing space, is there?

Someone shared the English Literature questions here yesterday, does anyone know if today's history question are anywhere online please.

Booksandflowers · 15/05/2024 17:40

RS tomorrow and he’s studying some general quotes that should be able to be applied to a few of the 12 markers. He’s only aiming for a 4 and to be honest I’ll be very happy if he manages it.

I’ve heard they don’t get published online as teachers like to use them for mocks next year but I don’t know how true that is.
