SW London Private and Grammar Schools Waiting Lists (Y7 2023 entry)

Following the private and grammar school exam threads, I am starting this one for those with waiting list places. May be helpful to hear if and when waiting lists begin to move.

We had some offers and some WL places. We have released the offers we are not taking and waiting for a place on the Reeds WL.

Hoping for movement after offer holder days (next week), national schools offer day (1st March) and offer acceptance dates (circa 9/10th March).

Does anyone know if G&l will go on Wl. Some friends are waiting.

G&l Sent an email today telling people on the waitlist they will not be offering spots. The email may not have been to everyone on the wl.

@Ukmum2012 thanks, do you know at what time it was? my friend had not received any email at 10.30am.

If your friend did not receive the email, perhaps she is ranked higher and still might have a chance?

Hello, any movements to CLSG?

I know IPS WL has moved significantly as someone we know got an offer tonight who had got through to the 2nd round but wasn’t offered a place or
WL place.

Wow! I mentioned some messages back that I thought they would be in trouble and I would say that having to go beyond WL makes the point. Imho, the combination of setting the bar too high (believing that the increased number of applications was driven only by an increased in popularity rather than also driven by more people adding it to their list as a back up option) and a woeful admissions process...

Deadline was today (not any longer on their website but I checked on their offer letter).

@EweCee was the offer for a girl or boy? We know of a boy desperate for a place and on the WL. It’s really so much harder for boys to get into coed with the lack of local boys schools in SW London.

@Limebasilico how annoying, though maybe you can get it back if you get an offer at your preferred school. Good luck! I think there will be a lot of movement this week.

Am assuming we have not been lucky with Halliford?

Can I ask maybe a stupid question- does anyone NOT take their waiting list offers? Could things move again?

I’m intrigued by the idea that there will be a lot of movement this week. Surely it is largely game over now? Deposits have been paid and so it would require someone to drop out of an independent school completely before any chain can be set in motion. Probably a grammar school holder or someone moving abroad. And the pressure on them won’t be felt until term fees are due in April. Or am I misunderstanding his this works? What I have found most frustrating about this process is that there were probably people with well placed WL places and others with offers at the school you wanted who wanted your offers. Such a shame there isn’t a swap shop!

We have exactly that situation with girls who are very similar academically - in one instance mine had a place at a school a friend wanted and the friend was waitlisted and mine had a waitlist spot for a place her friend had a firm offer. Both ended up choosing different schools! I agree, I don’t see how waitlists move much this week. I think any movement now will happen after first term fees are due. But I might not understand the process either.
