SW London Private and Grammar Schools Waiting Lists (Y7 2023 entry)

Limebasilico · 14/02/2023 09:00

Following the private and grammar school exam threads, I am starting this one for those with waiting list places. May be helpful to hear if and when waiting lists begin to move.

We had some offers and some WL places. We have released the offers we are not taking and waiting for a place on the Reeds WL.

Hoping for movement after offer holder days (next week), national schools offer day (1st March) and offer acceptance dates (circa 9/10th March).

Normally there is a small shuffle in late March when grammar school WL places are started to be offered and again towards end of April when a commitment to Autumn term fees is binding - some families realise they can't make the financial commitment to private and duck out just in time and loose the deposit only.

Wishingitwasover · 07/03/2023 12:40

It would be strange for offers to be given out to those not even placed on the WL before others who are still waiting?? Unless it isn’t true…

However I do know of people who had offers from KGS in the past who didn’t make it to an offer or a WL place! No school is totally transparent in this process!

Limebasilico · 07/03/2023 13:33

I think the WL must have been exhausted for offers to be made - ?

Today seems very quiet, I would have thought WL would move as some people do not bother declining spaces at some school so those have to wait until the deadlines to count and see if they can offer spaces or not?
Maybe they are now looking at WL and choosing who they will be offering to

If anyone hears of the Radnor waiting list moving, please could you post on here? Thank you

Am assuming we have not been lucky with Halliford?

I've not heard of the WL moving at Halliford yet, unusual as it's normally a back up school for quite a few so there's been movement in previous years. I know a few this year who have turned down places in favour of other schools and a few waiting but none have had a phone call about waitlist yet. Their deadline was Monday 9am so would have expected movement Monday and Tuesday. Am keeping fingers crossed my ds's friends who are on WL get a place but maybe they had more acceptances this year than they were expecting?

Didsomeonesay · 08/03/2023 13:10

Waitlist at surbiton is moving.

Saylo · 08/03/2023 15:34

Halliford WL is moving I know of at least two offers that were made on Monday

Lolakath19 · 09/03/2023 10:47

I have heard G&L waitlist have moved a little on Tuesday . not sure if it is still moving now. Good luck to anyone still waiting!

Justlikingit · 09/03/2023 13:56

Was it G & L that sent an email out to say they weren’t going into their WL, or was that another school?
Just on change and the whole system sometimes moves suddenly, like a pyramid effect

G&l sent an email indicating the bottom half of the wl would not move and told people if they were in the bottom half. Monday some people were told the wl would not move but not sure if that was to everyone in that top half or not.

Oh I see!

I need to issue a correction to my earlier message. Just received a short survey from Ibstock asking for feedback. It is good to see them seeking feedback for improvement. With a few tweaks, they can hopefully improve their admissions experience as the school has a lot of positives already.

I agree. We actually quite liked the school on the Open Day, and things unfortunately went slightly downhill at each step after that.
It is great that they seek parents'insight and will hopefully put it to good use!

When do St Paul's confirm 13+ offers and have 13+ boarding schools already confirmed offers?

Boarding schools - some did. Brighton College results out today.

I think St Paul’s interview from mid Jan to June so all the candidates should hear by July.

Limebasilico · 10/03/2023 12:55

St Paul's applicants have no choice but to pay a holding deposit at another school then?

OP posts:
redrobin75 · 10/03/2023 13:27

@Limebasilico , it depends on the 13plus school, Trinity is payment now but Hampton is deposit payment in 2024.

Our experience is a couple of years ago but St. Paul's 13+ outcome letter arrived in March. No deposit to pay until June of Year 7 though, and I would guess probably not much WL movement before then.

Winchester outcome was May, deposit not due until November of Year 8. That was the only boarding school we applied to, but from the experiences of other people at our prep, the timescales of offers and acceptances/deposits vary widely amongst 13+ boarding schools.

Boppolo · 11/03/2023 11:45

So I can report from personal experience it does still move! We got a WL offer for our preferred school late on Thursday pm which will have led to a consequent WL offer elsewhere on Friday morning. I am told that this happened because our offer holder received an offer elsewhere. Earlier deadlines this year at some of the schools was the reason I was given for very odd movement in WLs compared to other years and a more relaxed attitude to DL by other schools. A shocking waste of deposit money by a whole load of parents but a v happy DD and parents here. So keep the faith if you are reading this in 2024 and good luck to those still waiting.

Can you share which school?

Limebasilico · 13/03/2023 12:42

Has anyone had any more movement on waiting lists - or heard of any amongst friends?

Was wondering if anyone has knowledge/experience with what happens after the grammar school places move to waitlists. Does that happen soon? Does it shift any private school waitlists?
