SW London Private and Grammar Schools Waiting Lists (Y7 2023 entry)

Limebasilico · 14/02/2023 09:00

Following the private and grammar school exam threads, I am starting this one for those with waiting list places. May be helpful to hear if and when waiting lists begin to move.

We had some offers and some WL places. We have released the offers we are not taking and waiting for a place on the Reeds WL.

Hoping for movement after offer holder days (next week), national schools offer day (1st March) and offer acceptance dates (circa 9/10th March).

The WLs are moving again! I applied for a few girls' schools for my DD who unfortunately was on the WLs with ALL of them. Yesterday she finally got one offer!

Congrats!!! Would you mind sharing which school?

thank you for your feedback. Did Hampton go to WL or KGS?

QuiteAJourney · 22/04/2023 13:29

@lolo99 KGS did, not sure about Hampton.

createname · 22/04/2023 17:32

Hampton didn’t go to their WL yet as far as I know.

Thanks a lot. It is the one in SW suburban London.

Does anyone know if there is much movement in year 7 for waitlists and people generally moving if schools are not right?
thanks

redrobin75 · 27/04/2023 20:00

@ellie2468 , yes as a parent at 2 schools mentioned frequently on these threads there is far more movement that would you would imagine due to parents relocating, school not being the right fit or on occasion non payment of fees.

runlift · 27/04/2023 21:05

Does anyone know how difficult it is to get into these schools outside year 7 eg. Year 8 or 9?

redrobin75 · 27/04/2023 21:26

Year 9 is ok due to the natural entry point with 13plus etc. If it's a school with a small year 9 intake it helps if your dc will fit in quickly and pick up the pace of learning - making sure it's the right place for your dc is as much of a challenge as gaining a place. Schools with a larger 13 plus intake - ie Epsom college, Hampton, Reeds are much easier to join.

Turquoiseturtle3 · 04/05/2023 11:00

Has anyone heard of any movement in the last week? Things seem to have ground to a complete halt

redrobin75 · 04/05/2023 15:56

You sometimes get a tiny bit of movement around the induction events in June as people get cold feet or are holding a state and private place and need to make a final decision but the date has now past for committing to the autumn term fees. Otherwise you are dependent on someone on the Tiffin WL getting a place and dropping out of private school. There doesn't seem to be much Tiffin WL movement on the elevenplusexams forum.

Turquoiseturtle3 · 04/05/2023 19:17

A few people appear to have been offered today but one is 7km away from tiffin so doubt it will cause any movement in the Richmond borough

Turquoiseturtle3 · 05/05/2023 21:02

A few more of the Surrey grammars have been offering in the last few days, after a long wait, so really hoping that might make an impact…

Outnumbered4321 · 18/05/2023 08:53

There were 2 offered from the Tiffin Girls waiting list this week from my daughter's year so the lists are moving. I think they had positions in the top 10 of the list originally

Yarnie · 24/05/2023 10:55

Out of the blue, Latymer Upper called yesterday and offered my son a place from the waiting list. He is over the moon as it was his first choice. We have accepted. Just wanted to share because (a) I know you’ll all appreciate what a happy bombshell the news is, and (b) to offer a grain of optimism to others who might be hoping for late movements.

SamPoodle123 · 24/05/2023 12:09

@Yarnie Big congratulations! You and your ds must be over the moon.

Turquoiseturtle3 · 24/05/2023 12:29

Massive congrats on your first choice!! And hopefully that will cause some ripples 🙏🏻

QuiteAJourney · 24/05/2023 15:08

@Yarnie Many congratulations to you and your son. And very kind of you to share for the benefit of others.

secondaryquandriesqq · 24/05/2023 17:12

Many congratulations @Yarnie and your son! How exciting!

user1494050295 · 24/05/2023 17:53

Just been waitlisted for SHS for year 8. Can anyone share any insight please

LondonMum20222 · 24/05/2023 20:21

@Yarnie Great news - huge congrats! And lovely to give other people - both this year and in future years - hope that even this late in the game, things can still move.

momomamiko · 24/05/2023 21:46

@Yarnie Congrats! Must be such a relief.

There is a parents led whatsapp group for new joiners with a picnic planned in June. You can dm me with your mobile if you wish to be added?

@user1494050295 which sHS? If it is Sutton high, that would be my DD’s year, and it is full, so will be just in case anyone drops out
