@SamPoodle123 Emanuel do say they will email interview outcomes on 10 Feb as well as posting them on 9th.

QuiteAJourney · 16/12/2022 19:48

@Daydreamscometrue Warmer than the UK but not beach holidays - visiting family over the festive period.
Indeed nice to get away after what has been quite a long term! (Or at least it has felt like it!)

@QuiteAJourney sounds very much needed. It's been a long term!

I seem to recall that Emanuel said that they were aiming to interview 2/3 of candidates. The Headmaster referred to the fact that, although they do not interview everybody like in the past, they took pride in interviewing more than most schools.

Yes. I saw that in the video Emanuel sent a few weeks ago.

I wonder if 2/3 being interviewed means they will offer to 2/3 though? That would be a high number to offer to approx 600+?

I may prefer KGS (which we got a no for) where you only get interviewed if you're likely to get a place. It's hard to be interviewed but still get a no. It gives false hope. But I suppose they have their reasons for doing it that way.

A friend's DS applied to Trinity a few years ago - and another friend's DS applied to Kings last year and both were interviewed at these schools after passing the test and both got nos.

Quite hard going for such little folk to be rejected in this manner.

As for Xmas cards from Emanuel, we did 10+ unsuccessfully last year and they send them out to everyone. We got one last year. We haven't received on this year. But last week we received about 20 letters all in one go. We have received nothing for the last few days.

Most definitely the postal strike/issues, I would say.

I would imagine they spend far too much on comms to send out Xmas cards to their favourite applicants. That would be a very odd thing to do.

QuiteAJourney · 16/12/2022 20:06

@BlueTick that must have been where I saw it too!

How many offers schools is a bit of a mistery - looking at offers vs acceptance from preps in the area, I would venture that Emanuel will offer more than twice the number of places (but likely less than thrice)

If you get to interview stage but get a no how do you deal with it? Wait until you get all the results in and hope there's a yes in there somewhere?

And if you get multiple yeses then how will you be making the decision?

Daydreamscometrue · 16/12/2022 20:13

@KindergartenKop good questions. It's a worry to get interviews and then nos especially when lots of interviews include group experiences and this may give the child more of an opportunity to gravitate towards that school.

KindergartenKop · 16/12/2022 20:15

@Daydreamscometrue as in the day there makes them like it more but they feel super sad when they don't get in?

QuiteAJourney · 16/12/2022 20:18

@KindergartenKop
We only learn about the outcome of the interview at the end (around 10th February). I do not know if any school that separately tell you the outcome of the interview before the final outcome.

On how to prioritise, we will definitely wait and see (and attend offer holder days and speak with people with direct experience). We have some favourites so far, but even the admissions process itself has made some schools move up and down the list and I expect further changes. Scholarships might also play a role. We have 2 offers but are waiting on some of our favourites and will wait until we have the full spectrum on the table.

@Daydreamscometrue @KindergartenKop I am investing quite a lot in moderating my DD's enthusiasm for certain schools and sudden dislike of random aspects of others 😂
I think that the main thing now is to keep an open mind ...

KindergartenKop · 16/12/2022 20:23

@QuiteAJourney I think we all know that the responsible thing to do is to choose based on the quality of the snacks.

LoveMyADHD · 16/12/2022 20:24

@KindergartenKop then it’s a win for Emanuel ! 😂

Daydreamscometrue · 16/12/2022 20:24

@KindergartenKop exactly that!

Daydreamscometrue · 16/12/2022 20:26

@LoveMyADHD not much can top a cooked meal and Christmas cookie 😂

QuiteAJourney · 16/12/2022 20:26

@KindergartenKop of course, and the trinkets given! And do not forget the uniform!

OP posts:
KindergartenKop · 16/12/2022 20:26

@LoveMyADHD what did they have at Emanuel?

My DS loved the warm sausage rolls at one school but I can't remember which!

KindergartenKop · 16/12/2022 20:27

@QuiteAJourney boys seem less bothered by uniform as it varies less.

LoveMyADHD · 16/12/2022 20:28

Iced Santa cookies, sugary donuts with jam, choc biscuits and hot chocolate !

at least is it’s a No it’s a sweet one 😂

sailingsunshine · 16/12/2022 20:29

@KindergartenKop, as the system progresses you as a parent gain in confidence as you see the teachers return a happy dc to you after an interview. The interviews are looking to pick out dc with either over arrogance, chronic shyness or an other personality traits that may need consideration, normally at KGS and Hampton if you get an interview and your dc is without any of the above you will get an offer or WL. I would say LEH and some other girls schools place more weight on the interview or interview a greater number so reject more at IV stage. The key take away is if your dc doesn't get past the i/v firstly they may have found the experience tricky so gone off the school already and secondly it's not the right school for your dc so better to know now.

Re decision making, the most tricky decisions are often grammar v private as the financial aspect is so great. March is still a long way off.

Justarrivedlondon · 16/12/2022 20:31

DS is invited to an academic scholarship assessment. Can I assume he already got the place?

KindergartenKop · 16/12/2022 20:33

@sailingsunshine Thanks!
DS is a chatty man so hopefully interviews will be ok! Getting him to shut up might be a challenge 😂

KindergartenKop · 16/12/2022 20:33

@Justarrivedlondon which school?

Justarrivedlondon · 16/12/2022 20:35

KindergartenKop · 16/12/2022 20:33

@Justarrivedlondon which school?

RGS Guildford

KindergartenKop · 16/12/2022 20:42

@Justarrivedlondon I would start your own thread because most people on here are more londony based. You are welcome here though, I'm not telling you to bog off, you might get more responses that way.

sailingsunshine · 16/12/2022 20:46

@Justarrivedlondon , yes you can assume and based on his progress with the grammar schools and RGS feedback of scholarship interview you can be pretty sure you will get good outcomes from most schools.
There was a ds in my ds's hampton class who had an RGS scholarship I/v but didn't get a scholarship offer instead normal place and didn't get into KCS due to a weak English mark. He had already got into hampton on 10+.
