Well done to your son @KindergartenKop !!

secondaryquandries · 16/12/2022 17:05

@Daydreamscometrue we had one from Claremont too.

Daydreamscometrue · 16/12/2022 17:07

@secondaryquandries it's very sweet! Although DS initially thought it was to tell him he'd passed the exam 😂

Daydreamscometrue · 16/12/2022 17:08

@KindergartenKop congratulations on the Hampton interview!

secondaryquandries · 16/12/2022 17:08

@Daydreamscometrue that did cross my mind too.

QuiteAJourney · 16/12/2022 17:10

No card from Emanuel here so it may be a sign after all.

No card from Emanuel here so it may be a sign after all.

My husband and I often get the same communication emails at different times from the same schools. So don’t worry too much about it.

Daydreamscometrue · 16/12/2022 17:19

@QuiteAJourney We've literally had a shed load of post today so I just think it's down to the postal strikes. They'll send them to all I'm sure.

secondaryquandries · 16/12/2022 17:21

Oh the Claremont one was virtual!

QuiteAJourney · 16/12/2022 17:22

@Workhar not too worried (it is a school that I feel a bit ambivalent about, though co-ed nature, curriculum and proximity play in its favour for us).

If it was a card on the post, I would take it as usual delays. If email and we end up not getting it, I will take it as a sign (though, tbh, if they are ready with results why don't they just send them?)

QuiteAJourney · 16/12/2022 17:24

@Daydreamscometrue Messages have crossed. Thanks for clarifying - our post is pathetic (last week we got a parcel that had been sent, first class, 12 days before).

SamPoodle123 · 16/12/2022 17:30

@Daydreamscometrue same here. One friend also got, another did not. I am curious if they send to all or not. They handwrote my dd name, a lot of effort for 1000 applicants!

SamPoodle123 · 16/12/2022 17:33

And yes, it could be post delay, although, we live within 5 mins walk all 3 of us and one did not receive anything. Would be very interesting to find out if they send to everyone or just to the ones that make it to next round. The name is handwritten, which I think is a lot of effort for 1000 applicants. But who knows. Will update in Jan the outcome for us. It seems like forever to wait!

QuiteAJourney · 16/12/2022 17:39

I seem to recall that Emanuel said that they were aiming to interview 2/3 of candidates. The Headmaster referred to the fact that, although they do not interview everybody like in the past, they took pride in interviewing more than most schools.

OP posts:
Daydreamscometrue · 16/12/2022 17:59

@SamPoodle123 yes I thought that with the hand written element. Did as many as 1000 sit though?

noelnoel2 · 16/12/2022 18:06

Anyone looking at Royal Grammar school Guildford?

confu5ed · 16/12/2022 18:18

I'm pretty sure it's not handwritten. It looks like a handwritten font generator. There is no indentation in the paper. But, I could be wrong!

geleve · 16/12/2022 18:24

I would agree. Girls with lower academic abilities got interview places. Or maybe they just had a good day when they did the exam...
In general it is much easier for girls as there are much more girls school compared to boys (West London: Boys 1)St Pauls, 2)Hampton maybe 3)Kings vs LEH, SPGS, Godolphin, Notting Hill and Ealing etc) - plus co-ed for both

SamPoodle123 · 16/12/2022 18:29

@confu5ed the headmasters signature is def printed off, but 100 my daughters name is handwritten. I am not 100 sure about how many applied, but 1000 rang a bell in my head....I must have read it somewhere. I could be wrong. But I know, as Emanuel is coed, it is getting more and more popular.

LoveMyADHD · 16/12/2022 18:59

Workhar · 16/12/2022 17:13

My husband and I often get the same communication emails at different times from the same schools. So don’t worry too much about it.

That’s the reason I never put my husband’s email down for comms… he tells me the bad news before I get there first which is super annoying 🤔

Daydreamscometrue · 16/12/2022 18:59

@SamPoodle123 yes same. The address is typed on a sticky label.

QuiteAJourney · 16/12/2022 19:04

I would not be surprised if there were 1000 or more sitting Emanuel. There seem to have been 900 for IPS, which has less places and has traditionally been less popular (including on account of transport issues).

On what is becoming #Christmascardgate, and independently of whether DD gets a card or not (we are now off until the New Year, so will not know for a whole) - if a school has the results of who is going to round 2 and does not communicate them openly but instead sends a card to successful candidates only, opening the door to speculation and guessing, it seems a strange (and rather opaque) way to do things.

OP posts:
Dallasdays · 16/12/2022 19:18

We applied to Emanuel and haven't received a card. I feel quite sure that this is just all about postal delays. I would be gobsmacked if it was any sort of early notification. Why would they do that?

Daydreamscometrue · 16/12/2022 19:20

@QuiteAJourney lovely to be going away! Somewhere hot?

SamPoodle123 · 16/12/2022 19:43

@QuiteAJourney I agree, it does seem strange. However, I also think it strange to put effort in writing the name out to so many candidates. If it is the case, they probably assume people would not be speculating and asking each other if they received cards lol.

And a delay in postal servies may very well be the case on why some did not receive....which makes me hope they send an email out the day we are supposed to receive notification.

I wish I was going somewhere hot during the holiday for a nice distraction, but nope staying in freezing cold London.
