2023 Eleven Plus support thread

I thought it might be useful for parents of 2023 children taking the 11+ test next school year to have a space to talk everything 11+ - tips on managing stress, approaches to the different papers, ways of relaxing etc.

Let's try and keep it positive and supportive!

Good luck to all the Kent parents today!
Lots of DS friends did both Bexley and Kent too. DS didn't (just a bit too far to Kent schools we felt) but it'll definitely be another angsty day at school. Don't know how many passed Bexley but DS' best friend got a top 180 result.

We're in West Yorkshire here. Sat is the deadline for results but they usually come a few days before and it was today this time last year.

Feel sick. Hoping it's today. Just can't concentrate on anything else!

We get a letter and our postie doesn't come till mid afternoon and often doesn't come everyday as we're rural and think he saves them up to come to our house.

I know I need to get a grip. Failed myself back in the day and think I actually did better in the local comp and ended up at a good uni.

Anyway good luck to everyone. Wish we didn't have this system and everyone was lumped in together but hey ho.

Well at least we know for Kent that the results will be released after 4pm today, so it won't be another day of frantically refreshing emails throughout the entire day (not that I'm widely optimistic after yesterday!)

@sleeplessi I keep hearing mixed things about the Urmston scores! Some people saying surely Urmston would have told parents who'd seen them that they weren't correct (they did send a message to parents who contacted them but it just said to wait for email confirmation before logging on to see scores). But then I've also heard they were the raw scores (which almost makes more sense considering results have still not been posted 8 days later). Awful for the parents who saw and are left wondering what to believe - I know of two people who saw and who 'passed' and another with a borderline score who is being driven mad with all the talk of whether or not those scores were standardised or not as that will be the difference between a pass and a fail. I think Urmston should have been a little more transparent over it considering they were at fault here - very badly handled.

Good luck to those hearing today. Bucks said after 4 last week, but actually results came in just after 3.30. Hope the wait isn't too long for you. I was a mess!

Exactly the same here. Rural too and the postman doesn't come until later afternoon and then only when he has a bundle to drop off! No idea if they are going to be today or later in the week. I just want to know now!

I’m not in your area but we still haven’t received postal results 4 days after they were posted. I
called the school admissions team the day after the results were due and asked for an email, they were happy to oblige.

@Gobbolinothewitchscat I am in the saw the Urmston result camp. So if it was real, based on the last couple of year spread, he will have passed for all 4. But it wouldn’t take much for him to have been unsuccessful for all 4

Keep telling myself that number could have been anything - candidate number, test data etc

I posted on the Kent thread - it's mixed news for us. Whilst it's fantastic that she passed, unfortunately her score is probably too low for our only logistically possible Kent school (DGGS). It would have been great if she'd also passed Bexley, but it wasn't to be.

Yes fortunately we are eligible to apply to the Grey Coat Hospital.

Got our results and it should be high enough to get into one of our preferred schools! There is no pass mark here, it’s just the highest scoring applicants get the places so it does depend how everyone did, but the score is much higher than the last 3 years’ minimum for a couple of them. Sadly not high enough for the no 1 choice but the other schools are also very good. What a relief!

Just curious how many above the amount of places pass the exam? We are in Devon. As they don't release pass marks here (you just get a letter saying eligibility to apply for the local schools.)

Feels like another long wait until March. I guess we're all in the same boat so to speak.

In Bexley just over 2000 pupils are deemed 'selective' but there's 800 places in grammar schools.. But it comes down to distance here.

Am very worked up tonight. Our results were out today and everyone I know has found out how their DD / DS has done - except us! No letter has arrived so we will just have to wait!

@curiousmamma that sounds like torture! I hope they arrive tomorrow.
Our results were released at midday and it felt like the longest morning ever but at least they did arrive when they were supposed to!
