Hello everyone, here is a shiny new thread ready for DC’s results day tomorrow and a much needed hand hold for us nervous parents. 🥴🤪

Tomorrow is the culmination of an incredibly turbulent 2 year journey that our young people have had to navigate. Fraught with ups and downs. They have done us all proud!!

Here is a link to the previous thread: www.mumsnet.com/talk/secondary/4566030-current-year-11-2-more-weeks-of-exams?page=37&reply=119483572

7&8s here with 1 6 (which is 1 mark off a 7 so we are putting in for a grade review).

Oh and Spanish, which was a U! Let’s not talk about that one. 🤣🤣🤣 He also hated every minute of it and we wanted foundation tier but teacher wanted higher. At least he never has to do it again!

pinkroseapp · 25/08/2022 09:32

Here is our results:
9 maths
9 chemistry
9 biology
9 physics
8 Art
9 english literature
6 english language
9 history
8 geography
8 german

DS’ mock prediction was English Language 9 and Lit 6, the actual results are way around. Oh well, he has got what he needed for A level at current school, so celebration on its way. 🥳🥳

Lightsabre · 25/08/2022 09:34

Congratulations to all of our dc who have had it so tough!

Ds 9 x 9 plus 1 x 8 for Lit (one mark off a 9!). Absolutely gobsmacked and he's so happy! So proud of him and the effort he put in. It's not been easy.

ApplesForMe · 25/08/2022 09:35

I know a twenty something that skipped university, but took a course in coding. Now making six figures (in the US), no college debt. There’s more than one way to skin a cat, find out what industry is actually looking for, best of luck!

Graff · 25/08/2022 09:40

@Lightsabre dd’s school advice is to ask for a remark if you are one or two marks off. She is 5 off so unlikely to get to a 9. Not that it really matters though!

Rollergirl11 · 25/08/2022 09:40

Absolutely amazing @zighead , well done your DS!!!

DD is able to collect hers from 9.30am but is still at home and faffing about with her hair. Grrrr!

She's hoping for 6's and 7's but will be thrilled if she gets a 4 for maths.

Well done to your DDs and DSs who have their results already.

Good luck to everyone stil waiting.

Princessdebthe1st · 25/08/2022 09:45

Just had a message - three 9s, four 8s and two 6s. The results are spectacular but inevitably she is focused on the two 6s which are in English language and literature. She mentioned that English results were down for quite a few students which I am sure the school will look at. I honestly couldn’t be prouder and she has what she needs to get into her first choice sixth form. 😁

zighead · 25/08/2022 09:48

Is anyone on the thread in Wales? Do they still get A star, A etc? I was just thinking how difficult it is to remember with numbers and I bet so many people don’t understand the number system.

isittheholidaysyet · 25/08/2022 09:49

5 for Religious Studies
6 for chemistry

He is home ed and only did two because he is in year 10. We are disappointed with the RS though.

HappyBinosaur · 25/08/2022 09:54

DS got eight 8s and three 8s.

He’s absolutely delighted and has done better than he thought he would.

LouisCatorze · 25/08/2022 10:00

@Snargle is your DD my DD? Mine very similar (only it was eyebrows). She set off but has now stopped off at her friend's house en route to school. The school is still open for another hour or so, so it may be quite some time before they get there.

Some great results on here. Well done to those DC and good luck to those yet to pick up theirs.

Yes, I'm in Wales and we still get letter grades. My DS has just finished Y10 so he's only collecting his maths numeracy and grades that will be 40% of his triple science today, but I'm still a nervous wreck!

My cousins son in Wales has apparently got 9 A stars and 2 A double stars. So obviously they haven't converted to number grades like England.
Whilst I'm pleased for him, an A** is ridiculous.

Workinghardeveryday · 25/08/2022 10:09

I am currently sat in school car park.

she wouldn’t let me go in with her, all the other mums are.

took time off work and everything ☹️

zighead · 25/08/2022 10:09

Oh I didn’t know about A star star. How silly!

zighead · 25/08/2022 10:10

@Workinghardeveryday my DS didn’t want me to go in either. There were soooo many parents there with their kids. I’ve also taken the day off work. I didn’t mind too much as I was exactly the same at 16.

QueenMabby · 25/08/2022 10:13

Well done on everyone's results. Fantastic. DS was 1 mark off a 9 in biology but I don't expect we'll do a remark as it's not an a-level choice for him.

General feeling is of relief now.

In Wales, GCSEs are graded from A to G, which is different to the 9 to 1 system used in England. Not sure where that other person got A* from, perhaps misheard? Easy to do a search online to see.

NameChangeyForThis · 25/08/2022 10:20

DS got:

Maths 9
Eng Lang 9
Eng Lit 8
Combo Science 9/9
Music 9
French 9
Latin 9
RS 9
Computer Science 9

Ad Maths A

Very proud.

Sorry that mean't to say from A to G. Not sure where the other person got the A* from. My keyboard is messing me about.

Workinghardeveryday · 25/08/2022 10:21

@zighead i know but still 😞.

loads of kids coming out now looking very sad ☹️

Okay the stars are not showing up in most of my posts 😂A star to G!! No A star star. Easy to check online. So sorry for the mess.

DianaGarageDoors · 25/08/2022 10:26

All 9s for DS, unbelievably proud. Well done to all our kids, especially after such a disrupted couple of years.
