Hello everyone, here is a shiny new thread ready for DC’s results day tomorrow and a much needed hand hold for us nervous parents. 🥴🤪

Tomorrow is the culmination of an incredibly turbulent 2 year journey that our young people have had to navigate. Fraught with ups and downs. They have done us all proud!!

Here is a link to the previous thread: www.mumsnet.com/talk/secondary/4566030-current-year-11-2-more-weeks-of-exams?page=37&reply=119483572

DS got a 9 in music and got 100% so was very happy with that, 3 x 7, 2 x 6 and a 5. 5 in PE and he was predicted a 7 so he's really surprised, the teaching for PE was shocking though so we're not hugely surprised. I did think he might have got higher in maths and English lang. He got a 8/9 in coursework which was 50% but a 7 overall.

We haven't been given any of the marks at all which is odd. It doesn't matter at all as he only needed 5 x 4 but would be interesting to know.

Hiphophippityskip1 · 25/08/2022 10:34

Me too. Son adamant he is not going to get the grades he needs and is already starting the process of joining the navy which is breaking my heart so I really hope he does better than he expects. Trying not to cry as i sit in the car

Just had a message - three 9s, four 8s and two 6s. The results are spectacular but inevitably she is focused on the two 6s which are in English language and literature. She mentioned that English results were down for quite a few students which I am sure the school will look at. I honestly couldn’t be prouder and she has what she needs to get into her first choice sixth form. 😁

Always worth getting English Language remarked if your dd thinks that she may have done better.
My dd was given a 6 some years ago. Asked for a remark and received 8
English Language marks are always a bit subjective

All good here despite my sleepless night. All 7s 8s and 9s except a 6 for English Lit which he was happy to pass and put behind him as he hated it.
So he's comfortably exceeded his 6th form entry requirements and all is well. Actually in a way the thing I'm most proud of is what he is doing right now. All his friends are off for the day celebrating but DS has, by choice, gone to work. He could have had the day off I'm sure but he said he'd committed to work certain hours when he was offered the job at the beginning of the summer and he'll keep his word.
I told him on the way home that I am proud of his results and his hard work, but most of all I am proud of the person he is growing up to be.
Results don't define a person. Huge congrats to those who have got what they hope for but don't give up if you haven't. There are many roads to Rome.

So proud of DD. All 7s & 8s.

She found lockdown online learning so hard, to the point she did not attend any lessons. Her year leader's response was to give her online detentions... Which of course she didn't attend. So he told her he was saving all the detentions up for her when school was back in person. 🤦 He wouldn't listen to me when I told him it was a mental health issue and that she knew she'd have to catch up when school returned in person. He just kept telling her how many detentions she was clocking up.

The situation wasn't helped by her dad, who hadn't seen her for months, telling the year group lead that she was just playing the system and being lazy.

I got in touch with the deputy and finally the year group lead backed off.

It was so hard today to not go and make a comment to the year group lead about how well she'd done 🤣

Jadebanditchillipepper · 25/08/2022 10:41

We're in Wales here. Grades are definitely A* to G.

I'm incredibly proud of my son with ASD, who has had an awful four terms at school. He was physically assaulted, bullied and as a consequence has suffered from social anxiety and panic attacks and has had fairly poor attendance.

He got (results were emailed at 9am - He's gone back to sleep again now!)
Maths A*
Numeracy A*
Chemistry A*
Physics A*
Biology A
English A
Welsh A
English literature A
Music A
Drama B
Additional maths - D(istinction)

a much needed hand hold for us nervous parents

And grandparents, I was awake at 5 in anticipation! Just had The Call, A*s, As and B, so proud of her, it's days like this when I get upset that my late OH won't every know, he'd be in floods!
Well done to them all after the last few years and to those who are disappointed, it's not the end of the road.

Rollergirl11 · 25/08/2022 10:47

DD got 6 9’s, 3 8’s and a 7. The 7 is in Chemistry and she’s 2 marks away from an 8 so she’s considering paying for re-mark. I’m not sure it’s worth it as she’s not doing anything going forward with Chemistry but it’s a sticking point for DD not getting all 8’s and 9’s.

Still, she is relieved. Now on to wondering whether she needs to go and buy wellies for Reading!!

DD was very nonchalant saying she didn't really care....but I know she did really.
She got 7 9s and 3 8s which we are super happy with.
Slightly bewildered by the 9 in physics as it really is her worst subject, and a reason she chose triple science instead of combined so it wouldn't drag down ger overall grades. I even triple checked it was her name on the sheet!
Unsure what friends got.

Workinghardeveryday · 25/08/2022 10:50

@Hiphophippityskip1 no wonder you are feeling upset.

was it as bad as he thought? Bet it wasn’t x

MrsScrubbingbrush · 25/08/2022 10:50

DD1 - a mix of 7/8/9 but 5/6 for Eng lit & language. I know she's a bit disappointed but she as the 8s were in Biology & Chemistry & a 9 in French which is what she wants to study at A level I really don't care.

DD2 - a mix of 7/8/9 but she really did work hard for them. 9s in History, French and Eng lit. So really happy for her.

Off to celebrate tonight and then clothes shopping for college.

Will sleep a lot better tonight!

I didn't know this. I did gcses in 1994 and a friends parents asked for hers to be re-marked and the school sent back a random sample of papers (including mine) and I got promoted from a C to a B😄

LouisCatorze · 25/08/2022 10:52

I wasn't even allowed to accompany DD! She has her results - they're as predicted, spiky (ranging from 5s to 8s). She's pleased (she's the first to admit she kind of gave up on revision about half way through them) and so are we. She got her 5 in maths so now has options for sixth form (and has opted for the more academic one, although still time to change her mind).

Mydietstartstomorrow · 25/08/2022 10:53

Very disappointing but expected, just passed English and PE. DS Hasn’t bothered at all, hardly revised, now disappointed as he thought he would breeze it. Hasn’t got passes required for college course so has to do some again. We warned him till we were blue that this would happen, now he has to suck it up!

TheOnlyMrsW · 25/08/2022 10:55

Just got back from school:

English Lit - 9
Food Tech - 9
English Language - 8
Chemistry - 8
Geography - 8
Biology - 7
Physics - 7
Maths - 7
German - 7
French - 6

Physics and Chemistry were 3 marks off the next up, German 2 marks off and Chemistry 1 😮not sure whether it's worth asking for a review of those? We're in school later for sixth form enrolment so will ask there. So pleased for her, especially Maths after the s*%&show of paper 1 - only problem now is she's dithering over A Levels!!!!!

Fiddlersgreen · 25/08/2022 10:56

Mixed bag here, one 8 (2 marks off a 9!)
two 7s, four 6s, three 5s and a distinction* for his BTEC subject.

Happy with all but DS is disappointed with English, both Lit and Lang he got 5s but got 8s in the last two sets of mocks.

I think that they call it review not remark.

I couldn’t be more proud of my ds, they’ve had a terrible last few years of schooling and any pass result these children achieve is an incredible achievement considering their last 2 years of schooling.

math 9
biology 7
chemistry 8
physics 8
english Lang 7
english lit 9
geography 7
sports science 2* distinction
Digital information D2

HaudYerWheeshtYaWeeBellend · 25/08/2022 10:58

Forgot to put his French which he got a 5, he loathed the subject and we requested it was dropped however his school wouldn’t allow it.

leafpickerupper · 25/08/2022 10:59

Ds got 6 grade 9s, 3 grade 8s and a 7.
He is disappointed with one of the 8s but we are incredibly proud of him as is his older brother.

Congratulations to everyone else because quite frankly they have been through the mill over the last couple of years.

LouisCatorze · 25/08/2022 11:01

@Mydietstartstomorrow so sorry to hear that for your DS. I think boys are often less mature and the penny doesn't drop for all young people at the same time. I hope he manages to get some good support and guidance on the next steps. Presumably he could resit some in November? It could be the wake-up call he needs?

Just out of interest - do the teachers know the raw scores? Just trying to plan contingency’s in my head to figure if it’s worth appealing. Oh now I sound like I doubt my dds abilities before we even know Sad

Yes, we get the raw scores printed along with the grades. You can Google grade boundaries if that helps. Here they are:

So proud of my DD. We only moved back to the UK in January so she has only had 5 months to prep for her GCSEs. She has spent the last 7 years learning in a different language with a very different curriculum. DD actually took her foreign equivalent of GCSEs last year, started college abroad and then when we moved had to go back to school 😂 She needed 4s to get on her course and she has smashed it. Although her foreign exams do count too.

Eng Lang 6
Eng Lit 5
Maths 4
Science 4-4
RE 4
French 9

Could have written this post Louis, similar here. Unfortunately, dd struggled to revise. I am relieved she has required grades to get into sixth form.
