Hello everyone, here is a shiny new thread ready for DC’s results day tomorrow and a much needed hand hold for us nervous parents. 🥴🤪

Tomorrow is the culmination of an incredibly turbulent 2 year journey that our young people have had to navigate. Fraught with ups and downs. They have done us all proud!!

Here is a link to the previous thread: www.mumsnet.com/talk/secondary/4566030-current-year-11-2-more-weeks-of-exams?page=37&reply=119483572

Me too. Son adamant he is not going to get the grades he needs and is already starting the process of joining the navy which is breaking my heart so I really hope he does better than he expects. Trying not to cry as i sit in the car

I'm worried too. DS is not academic at all :(

He's very nonchalant but I'm nervous

RordonGamsey · 25/08/2022 11:04

Mine got
Maths 6, English language 5, English lit 3, science 55, art 5, history 5, child development D2.

Shes a bit disappointed I think :( she needed to at level 6 in humanities subjects so she could do sociology, but im unsure if child development counts?
Am I right in thinking its all high C's/ Low B's?
Fretting slighty!

RordonGamsey · 25/08/2022 11:06

She needed *two sixes.

Great to see everyone’s results and lots of amazing results. My dd sat 3 GCSE’s, she is severely autistic and attends a SEN school. The school was supposed to contact us this morning with her results but they haven’t 😕, Dd is in full blown meltdown mode, we are in holiday in the uk and she has seen other kids get their results on tv, we have a table booked for a meal at lunch time to celebrate (just for her sitting them) but we have no results. She has sat Maths, English and science. I was told she would never read, write or talk so she has already achieved way more than I ever imagined but I feel sad that the school don’t seem to think it’s important that she gets her results the same time as everyone else.
I have tired contacting the school but obviously no one is there.

Purple24 · 25/08/2022 11:08

Well done everyone! Great results here too, hit the entry criteria for a levels thankfully - phew!!

LouisCatorze · 25/08/2022 11:09

@ReturntoNarnia good for your DD too. DD had really gone beyond caring by the time the real things came around. I am just hoping that now she's able to focus on subjects she's truly interested in for A Level, she will flourish academically. Hoping that the change of school will mark a turning point. And decent grades will give her confidence.

WobblyLondoner · 25/08/2022 11:10

Well done everyone, good to get the waiting over with. My DS got 9s in maths, history and computer science, 8s in the 3 sciences and further maths. 7 in English lang and 6 in English lit. Well over what he needs to go to the 6th form he wants. He's a bit irritated about the physics 8 which I suspect just missed being a 9 but I can't see any point in appealing unless I'm missing something?

Very proud of him and can now breathe properly again.

mushroom3 · 25/08/2022 11:10

DS has done really well, 6 x 9 to add to his 9 from year 10 and 4 x 8s. English Lang (1 mark off) and English Lit (2 marks off) are 2 of the 8s. He is bothered about this as he is doing English Lit A level and got 9s in his mocks. I saw above that some others aren't happy with English Lit results, his AQA paper 1 is much lower than paper 2 and his teacher has already said they will go for review on this as she is surprised. He has enrolled and is continuing at our large bog standard local comp with all his friends who have also done really well too. Well done to all of our year 11s who have done their GCSEs courses through such difficult times.

zighead · 25/08/2022 11:10

Hope you hear soon @Lovemusic33 Sounds like a great achievement for your DD.
Hope you can all enjoy your lunch regardless

Hope you get them soon and well done to your daughter for sitting them. Very poor of the school not to contact you.

Oh that's awful, so sorry to hear that. Do keep trying the school in case someone is there. Ours is open now to hand out results.

hagelslaagfiend · 25/08/2022 11:12

All 7/8 for DD apart from one 6. Didn't get her predicted 9 so a bit sad but has very high standards for herself. I'm making a cake and feeling relieved.

doubleshotcappuccino · 25/08/2022 11:13

@Lovemusic33 well done to your DD for sitting them .. I have a son in the same position who we hope will take 3 next year .. your post is an inspiration to me to keep going to her there .. well done for taking them xx

mushroom3 · 25/08/2022 11:15

@Lovemusic33 that is really awful, your poor daughter. I hope she hears soon x

Thank you, good luck to your son, anything is possible. Dd was originally just sitting Maths but last minute they entered her for English and science, I’m not even sure if she will pass the English or science but she has sat the higher maths paper.

Leftbutcameback · 25/08/2022 11:17

@Rollergirl11 - congratulations, great result, and (off topic) definitely no need for wellies! Site may be a bit muddy but dry after this morning and wellies get so warm!! It's just stopping raining here now.

NiceTwin · 25/08/2022 11:17

I am happy and relieved!
Dd was diagnosed with ASD at the start of year 9, just as we went into lockdown.
School has been a struggle and actually getting her into the exams was extremely stressful. She hasn't done a dot of revision outside of what they did I'm school.

She got;
History 4
RE 5
Maths 6
Biology 6
Physics 6
Chemistry 4
Food Prep 7
English Language 7
English Lit 6

Academia isn't for her, she is going on to do an apprenticeship to because a car maintenance technician (or a mechanic in old money).

aramox1 · 25/08/2022 11:18

It's been a rough ride her but mine's come out with all passes and 2 9s. So delighted!

sproutsandparsnips · 25/08/2022 11:18

Lovemusic33 DS has only just received his emailed results.

QueenMabby · 25/08/2022 11:23

@Lovemusic33 - how fantastic for your dc to go from that prognosis to sitting three GCSEs. You must be so proud! Fingers crossed your don't have to wait too long for the results.

@NiceTwin - the country's crying out for skilled trades. Your dd will have it made - well done on her for having such good drive (see what I did there??).

Well done to all other pps' dcs. And support too for those whose dcs didn't get what they were hoping for. There are always options and there are always doors open somewhere even if if's not to where they anticipated.

Womblealongwithme · 25/08/2022 11:24

DD got three 9s, two 8's, three 7's and three 5's. She's happy and I'm really pleased for her. So many bloody exams.

EngHOD · 25/08/2022 11:28

Don’t know if this is helpful to anyone but I’m a head of English. I’ve just finished crunching my numbers for school and have a couple of hours free is anyone wants to check anything re. their DC’s English Lang or Lit grades.

parentallyadept · 25/08/2022 11:29

DS has got 6 x B grades, a C grade and a D grade - given that he's got ASD and this time last year suffered a mental breakdown (post covid stress etc) and suicide attempt, we didn't even know whether he'd be able to do the exams at all, so I'm incredibly proud of him.

chocolatenutcase · 25/08/2022 11:30

Congratulations to everyone. Some stellar results for the DCs on here.
My DS got 5x8, 2x7 The amazing ones were his English Lang and lit. (6&5). They could easily have been a fail.

He's a bit disappointed he didn't get a 9 in chemistry or music but given the past 2 years and some ropey teaching I think he's done remarkably well.

murasaki · 25/08/2022 11:35

Well done all the dcs, sterling work after a difficult time. The outlier does seem to me to be eng lit from what people are saying, I'd take up @EngHOD's very kind offer if it were me.
