Hello everyone, here is a shiny new thread ready for DC’s results day tomorrow and a much needed hand hold for us nervous parents. 🥴🤪

Tomorrow is the culmination of an incredibly turbulent 2 year journey that our young people have had to navigate. Fraught with ups and downs. They have done us all proud!!

Here is a link to the previous thread: www.mumsnet.com/talk/secondary/4566030-current-year-11-2-more-weeks-of-exams?page=37&reply=119483572

She’s out and I have the thing of comforting her because two friends got all 9s and she got nine 9s and two 8s. She’s just been sitting in the car for a bit.

I know this is a ridiculous thing but it would have been good if friends could have not got all 9s….

Her 8s were in maths (not unexpected) and English literature (slightly unexpected)

Congratulations to your daughter.
I know exactly how you feel.
My son got 9As and 2 Bs and he was disappointed!!!
Like your daughter he did brilliantly but disappointed despite that ,because all his friends has a couple of A* !!
In the scheme of things GCSE results fade away very quickly .

Leftbutcameback · 25/08/2022 11:38

What's clear from this thread is what a hard time all the kids have had, and this must mean parents too. I don't have children but I've seen how the two years affected my friends.

Well done to all the parents today, and amazing efforts by the students! Hope everyone off to Reading or Leeds can now have an amazing time! (I remember camping for the first time the year I got my GCSE results!)

Kendodd · 25/08/2022 11:40

6 grade 9s
5 grade 8s
Very pleased.

Ithinkthatisenoughnowthanks · 25/08/2022 11:41

@WobblyLondoner He's a bit irritated about the physics 8 which I suspect just missed being a 9 but I can't see any point in appealing unless I'm missing something

am a teacher, but not a science one! Ask his teacher. If he is a mark or two off, sometimes a remark can find that extra mark or two, particularly in longer questions where right/wrong isn’t clear cut. However, if he’s nearer a 7 than the 9, be wary, as a remark can make the grade go down.

Tumbleweed101 · 25/08/2022 11:42

Mine got mostly 6s and a couple of 5s. Her lowest was maths with a 3 but that is her weak subject and she never expected a good grade. Just means a retake along side her college course next year. She is satisfied and able to move on with the course she wanted.

Boxshibe · 25/08/2022 11:44

We got 7s and 6s so we're v pleased. Gets into college doing what she wants.

LouisCatorze · 25/08/2022 11:44

@EngHOD thanks for offering some assistance. DD got her mark equivalents for all her subjects except for Eng. Lang. Why would that be?

GlittercheeksOakleaf · 25/08/2022 11:46

DS is disappointed. Mix of 5s and 6s. 2 marks off a 6 in history which the school have already asked to be remarked. Predicted grades were 7s and 8s but he didn't bother to revise despite some serious encouragement from everyone around him and thought he could breeze through them so I think he's had a bit of a reality check. Not sure if he will be accepted into 6th form with his grades and am just waiting to hear from him.

OurLipsAreSealed · 25/08/2022 11:49

@NiceTwin well done to your DD! Those results are great! Sounds like she knows what she wants and I’m sure she will do well.

Our DC has only recently been diagnosed with ADHD and will be going in to Y11 in Sept, also struggled mentally. I’ll be relieved when school is over for him tbh, he’s had a pretty negative experience. If he gets good results great, but the best result will be improving mentally. Thanks for your honest post.

grosgirl · 25/08/2022 11:51

@LouisCatorze which exam board? What information has she been provided with for Lang?

Mumsnut · 25/08/2022 11:52

@EngHOD. That might be worth a separate thread even

HaudYerWheeshtYaWeeBellend · 25/08/2022 11:55

Does anyone know what the criteria is for the results?

Ds has been told one of his exams was 1 mark off a 9 however I don’t know where to find this information.

XelaM · 25/08/2022 11:55

Wow some amazing results on this thread. Well done to all the kids!

lifeturnsonadime · 25/08/2022 11:55

My DS did really well give that he has been away from school for anxiety for 5 years.

He only did 6 GCSEs which was what he needs for a levels and got -

History - 8
English Lang - 7
English Lit -6
Business - 6
Psychology - 6
Maths - 5

He was apparently 1 mark of 8 for Eng Lang, 1 mark of 7 for English Lit and 2 marks off 7 for Psychology.

Not sure whether to appeal given that his has done less GCSEs that most of his peers?

WWYD?

My DD is the same - marks for all other subjects except Eng. Lang. She's with Eduqas for the both Eng. lit. and lang. Hope it doesn't mean the grade might go down as she is really pleased with her grade (unexpected).

WhereTFisit · 25/08/2022 11:57

My son got all 5s.

Andbhis college course requires 2 6s.

Anyine know where we go from here :(

LouisCatorze · 25/08/2022 11:57

@grosgirl @EngHOD AQA and all she has is the 'D' which is for the oral exam. No other mark apart from the grade (7). Curious! All 'raw scores' for the other subjects (most of which were also AQA).

He was predicted really good scores, 7s, 8, fewb9s so I'm just baffled

ScruffMuffin · 25/08/2022 12:00

We just got a grade for English Language (8) and Speaking and Listening (D). Her nine other subjects were 9s. I'd be delighted for her anyway, but she's overcome significant diversity too.

ScruffMuffin · 25/08/2022 12:00

Adversity not diversity!

zighead · 25/08/2022 12:02

My DS got the marks for most but not for either of the English exams nor computer science. No idea why but obviously not bothered as he got a 9 in those three.
@WhereTFisit has he spoken to the college? Maybe give them a call and see what they say? When is he due to enrol?

Sorry to hear this. Is there anyone at the school you could ask? Or perhaps phone the college. DDs school had teachers in today for when students got their grades.

Have a look at the grade boundaries, if any of his subjects are just a couple of marks off it might be worth having them remarked (only if there is a big margin to the grade boundary below). Otherwise, what was he going to do at college - A levels or BTEC? Either way, speak to the college first as there might be some flexibility, depending on final numbers enrolled on the course. If it is a BTEC, he should be allowed to start a BTEC level 2 and then move onto the level 3 after a year. Hope he manages to get onto a course he is happy with, hopefully he will have a bit of time to look into his options.

QueenMabby · 25/08/2022 12:05

@WhereTFisit - call the college. They may take him anyway. If not then they may give other options.

Also to school to see if any are worth a review and to see what their advice is.

There will be a lot of movement over the next few weeks and there will be a next steps available for him even if it takes a few days to sort something out.

W0tnow · 25/08/2022 12:05

My daughter did GCSEs but at a British school abroad. She was given her % marks in addition to her results (A, B, C etc). Do uk based schools do this also?
