Calling all parents who’s ds sat the 11+ today... ds said maths was super hard and not the usual questions, he said he couldn’t finish the paper. Wondering if it was the case for the majority or he just had a bad day...

@Frostyskies1223 thanks so much for the info. Do you know the percentage on average they need to get to even be considered? Does Hampton our equal weight on all papers?

Frostyskies1223 · 14/01/2020 09:11

@R272727 , sorry I don't know but the ds I know there are good at everything, there isn't someone who is weak in English etc.

glittercats · 14/01/2020 10:10

R272 - From my experience of DS taking these papers, the KCS exam does tend to be “easier” in that it’s more predictable maths ie the type of questions they are likely to have experience of. The Hampton paper is “harder” in that it seemed more effort to finish it and involved reasoning-type questions they may have never come across. The LU maths was the most difficult, again with built-in reasoning, and designed to make them “think on their feet.” However, ultimately, it doesn’t really matter because they will inevitably take the top x% performers, whether they be attaining 90% or 40%. At LU and Hampton there is no separate scholarship papers, whereas at KCS there used to be (not sure if this is still the case since they widened their 11 plus intake)?

Surbitonlady · 14/01/2020 11:21

We haven't heard anything from KGS or Hampton... anyone else?

TaupeAndTeal · 14/01/2020 11:30

KGS are letting people know about interviews by close of play tomorrow (Wednesday). I wouldn't expect anything today.

Sosickoflovesongs · 14/01/2020 11:32

Nope nothing

mummy2aPrince09 · 14/01/2020 14:59

This wait feels so long... ds said I shouldn’t hope for it :-/

Strange, I thought Hampton said they were sending letters out inviting for interviews on 16th, but no one I know who sat it have had anything.

Ds123 · 14/01/2020 17:05

Surbitonlady- but today is the 14th. How did they hear emails were going out on the 16th?

mummy2aPrince09 · 14/01/2020 17:11

Don’t the interviews start on the 17th? Surely that’s very little notice... what if someone missed the post that morning?

We had an interview an hour ago to say he’s got an interview at Hampton next week!
Fingers crossed for everyone else on here xx

GetoffmyUnicorn · 14/01/2020 17:44

Sorry, I meant an email 🤦🏼‍♀️

Sosickoflovesongs · 14/01/2020 17:52

lifeisnotagame · 14/01/2020 17:55

mummy2aPrince09 · 14/01/2020 18:15

Sadly it’s a no for ds Sad

rakushka04 · 14/01/2020 18:15

Are you all 11+ with the recent emails with the interview invites? Just waiting impatiently for any 13+ info.

mrsbobble · 14/01/2020 18:17

Waiting for 13+ too

ripple11 · 14/01/2020 18:20

@mummy2aPrince09 so sorry to hear that...good luck with other schools.

Isitreallyworthit23 · 14/01/2020 18:39

It’s a no for us too but that means our DS isn’t right for the school which whilst sad, I totally respect. Congrats to those who got interviews and good luck!

Gumps · 14/01/2020 18:45

Us too. I cried with relief. Having an older brother there already has been a huge pressure on him.
So sorry for those that didn’t get through. However having a bright ds1 there, who got in on the 10+, it is an incredibly tough and competitive environment. It is the perfect place for him and he is thriving however I’m still not 100% sure it’s right for ds2 as to be bottom of a class (albeit a class of incredibly bright kids) would be a tough place to be.
I hope they all end up where they are supposed to be.

Ami01 · 14/01/2020 18:57

No for us, really disappointed. Really not sure of the others now.

Ami01 · 14/01/2020 18:58

As in the other exams, as it's very similar groups sitting all the same exams, KGS, St George's etc.

Well done and good luck for interviews to all DS who got through

GetoffmyUnicorn · 14/01/2020 19:07

We are 11+
Sorry to those that got a no today. Hang in there, I am a firm believer that you will get a school that is right for them x

Contessa28 · 14/01/2020 19:15

Well done all those with interviews and sorry to those if you who didn’t - I’m sure your DS will thrive at their other school choices. GUMPS Hampton is excellent at knowing which boys suit it and I’m sure your DS2 will be fine. I’ve been in a similar position and both DS thriving in their different ways. There is a lot for all boys and honestly DS2 not struggled tho I had my doubts ... good luck in all the interviews everyone! Might be worth asking your DS to practise commenting on a picture from a newspaper or a work of art (eg the scream)
