Calling all parents who’s ds sat the 11+ today... ds said maths was super hard and not the usual questions, he said he couldn’t finish the paper. Wondering if it was the case for the majority or he just had a bad day...

Hi - we had a call about an academic scholarship (11+) late afternoon yesterday. Surname is pretty close to the end so wonder if they are doing them in alphabetical order. Hope that helps. Good luck everyone - it’s a stressful process

Well done Kingstonmum2020 's DS! I have been lurking!
DS has done KCS, St Paul's and Hampton- wondering how other DS's found them in comparison to each other if they did them.
We are lucky as DS got a 10+ Hampton place last year but we live sort of in the middle of all 3 so gave the others a go as journey is slightly easier although all fairly similar.

@anewdecade Well done on the 10+ place.
DS did those 3. St'Pauls most difficult, followed by Hampton (reasoning especially tricky ) and then KCS yesterday( Maths "certainly easiest of the 3"). He didn't run out of time on any paper, so that's something!

*@ripple11 I’d agree with all that- I try not to ask, though!

Morning all. Any news for anyone?!

Hi everyone!
I’ve been following this thread too With interest. Thanks for setting it up. It’s a nerve wracking time and it’s nice to support each other!
My DS sat Harrodian, Kew House, Hampton, Latymer, KCS and is doing Emanuel on Friday.
The feedback you’ve all mentioned sounds totally like what he has said. He said that Latymer was very tough, Hampton maths and reasoning was tough and he missed out some questions, and KCS was actually ok and better than expected. Kew and Harrodian were fine.
Favourites are Hampton and KCS. Am nervously waiting for news about Hampton as KCS was only on Saturday. Not heard anything yet. Has anyone else?
Good luck to you all! X

Am I right to think that if it’s a no call back you’ll get an email and if it’s an interview it’s going to be a phone call? Very stressed about the whole situation....

I think email whether it's an interview or not as there will be a lot of boys in either group. They only called scholarship candidates as they need to get them in quick and not as many.

Report
Sosickoflovesongs · 13/01/2020 14:21

Yes I think that’s the case. Email about the interview, yes or no. It could be though that if it’s a no you don’t hear until the official end date in mid feb, and only get an email if you have an interview. I’ve heard boys from the same school are notified together. Calls were only for scholarship interviews and done early as @lifeisnotagame said X

I think they will let no's know before mid February as people will get to hear others being called for interview. A nice thing to do and saves the school from getting inundated with calls from parents who haven't heard!

I hope so! I agree. Better to know!

I think @lifeistnotagame is correct. Going by the 10+ process which DS sat in 2018.... we received the 'no' email well in advance of the official confirmation/offer letter day (which this year for the 11+ is mid Feb) and I believe these yes and no interview emails all went at the same time as there were lots of people in both camps reporting back on the threads at the same time. So in actual fact, hopefully not too long for us all to wait as interviews commence this Friday. Hang in there!

summerissooncoming · 13/01/2020 17:23

The waiting is pure torture ! Hope to hear about interviews soon. Did anyone with the surname in the beginning of the alphabetically order get the interview email ? My DS found Hampton's verbal reasoning hard, so I don't know why I am waiting for the inevitable email Confused. BTW we did KGS too which was easier compared to Hampton.

Good luck to all! Hope this helps... a few years ago my DS received a letter confirming about a general interview and at the same time no letters were sent - so my belief is that you either find out it's an interview or it's a no..... if your DS gets through to interview stage you then have to wait until Feb for the answer. Good luck! I'm now doing the same process with DD at LEH but feel free to ask any questions!

does Anyone know from the past what the average percentage is before you get an interview? Is kcs suppose to be harder to get into? I thought Hampton in general was easier choice but it seems everyone had a harder time

Report
R272727 · 13/01/2020 21:44

What I mean by percentage is how well on the paperSmile

Report
Frostyskies1223 · 14/01/2020 08:12

@R272727 , Hampton overall is a harder paper & to be considered for a scholarship I expect you need 90% plus in all the papers. KCS likes a strong English result.
From the ds I know at Hampton. lots get into both schools , some choose Hampton over KCS because the sport is regarded as better & more organised for ages 11-13 at Hampton & for most it comes down to the journey.
Best of luck for the coming days.
