Calling all parents who’s ds sat the 11+ today... ds said maths was super hard and not the usual questions, he said he couldn’t finish the paper. Wondering if it was the case for the majority or he just had a bad day...

12+ Exam was on a different day heard 100 applied 40 interviewed for 10 places.

Does anyone know how many applied this year for 13+ and for how many places?

lifeisnotagame · 21/01/2020 21:22

Thankyou TaupeAndTeal

MGMidget · 23/01/2020 10:36

In fact 12 plus was 120 applicants and just over a third called for interview for 12-15 places, or so we were told on the day of interview!

SW153kids · 23/01/2020 10:58

R272727 I might be misunderstanding, but have you not heard at all? You should either have had an interview invitation or a no by now..... I’d definitely call if you’ve heard nothing.....

glittercats · 23/01/2020 14:12

R272 - I agree it’s odd if you haven’t heard anything from the school yet. 11 plus interviews are happening / have happened, but if your DS wasn’t being invited you would have had a letter to that effect by now.

If you have heard nothing, you need to call as your letter may have got lost or there’s been some admin issue?

Otherwise, following interviews, the no letters and the offer letters are sent out on the same delightful day in mid February. Usually it’s the last day before half term (so parents can’t harangue the registrars) Grin If its a yes, it will be a largish envelope with a prospectus and other bumpf in it. Otherwise, a small envelope.

Hey everyone! Does anyone know how many applied this year for 13+, how many were called back for interviews and for how many places? Thank you so much!!!

Talksunderwater · 23/01/2020 21:43

R272727 All the definite “No”s at this stage will have been told they didn’t get an interview. Everyone who had an interview will be told on 14 Feb whether they are offered a place or not.
Good luck to all. I went through this (for the second time) last year. Such an awful wait!

Jbliwecd1 · 24/01/2020 13:18

Hi everyone, update in case it helps someone.

DS did the 13+ Hampton interview this morning. Parents where told by admissions officer and headmaster that 200 boys sat for 13+. Circa 100 boys called for interview and 35 places will be offered initially for Year 9 September 2022.

The school is not going to offer more than these 35 (13+) places at this stage. That means that they are not going to “over offer”. If any boys selected amongst these 35 turn down their places or their families end up relocating in the meantime, Hampton will simply offer such places as 12+ next year.

So that’s it, really... 35 offers at 13+ on the 13th February and that’s it for now...

I don’t have a good feeling re this morning’s interview. I think it was probably uneventful, so-so, nothing to write home about... Some of the staff interviewing the Kids looked truly lovely and enthusiastic and ready to get a boy talking. Unfortunately the lady who interviewed DS just looked bored and disengaged. I saw her across the room and was just thinking “please, not her...”. No such luck, unfortunately... On a positive note, yesterday’s interview at Westminster appeared to go very well. But let’s just be realistic here: Westminster is just a real stretch, not going to happen, really... So was hoping for a good interview this morning at Hampton... Oh well...

Sorry about this lengthy message. I know that I am very fortunate that DS got interviews and everything will probably fall into place at some point. It is just that I feel rather tired and a bit disillusioned... Feel that I should have selected a couple less competitive schools, which I naively did not (only moved to the UK last September, so was not terribly informed regarding the process)... Feel very guilty about putting DS forward to these super selective schools and risking his self esteem in the process...

Just feel down, really... I'm sure it’s difficult for all of you so I’m sorry about moaning so much, guys...

Good luck to all.

Got an email calling DS for a sports scholarship at Hampton last night. It said I am delighted to confirm we would like to invite DS to be assessed ...
What does this mean?! At the other schools everyone was invited to try out for sports. Have they selected only a few people based on their sporting ability from their references? Is it a sign that he went well in the interview??
I’m going a bit crazy. All my friends with girls are finding out if they have places and a friend for told her son has a place at St James in Ashford. Why do Hampton St G and Epsom make us wait so long?! Thank for I’m not doing dry January..

Moooooooo · 24/01/2020 14:54

Did you not apply for a sports scholarship on the application form Gumps?

Frostyskies1223 · 24/01/2020 15:00

@Gumps , well done to your ds, it means you are doing ok & on track but it doesnt mean you will get an offer or waiting list place. They use to invite a lot to Sports scholarship, I think @ 60 but my ds didn't attend a while ago. There are 3 sports scholars in his class of 25 ds.

Re number of places being offered at 13 being just 35, that's a tiny number, I wonder if they are taking 50 or 75 in total in 2022 at 13.

Best of luck to you all, it's a great school but everyone is an all rounder & they teach at a very fast pace, they select those who will thrive.

Jbliwecd1 · 24/01/2020 15:48

Hi Frostyskies1223, guess no more than 50 incoming year 9 pupils in 2022..

Gumps · 24/01/2020 16:44

Yes I did put the forms in. It’s more the way it was worded.
My eldest is there but got the 10+ so this is all new to me.
Also just had a friend tell me her son for a place at St George’s. I thought they didn’t tell us until the 13th Feb? Her son is at the prep school so I don’t know if that makes a difference. I know the girls places were released today.

Sosickoflovesongs · 24/01/2020 17:12

Hi @gumps!
I got the same email
I called them last week to ask if it was ok that my husband wouldn’t be able to attend yesterday’s interview and I would be alone. Whilst talking to them I mentioned the sports scholarships. I applied for one at the beginning for DS as you also would have done, and I don’t know if you saw but in the pamphlet we were given after the written exam, it said that boys would be invited depending on success in the assessment.
I asked if that meant exam AND interview (because I was slightly trying to see if that was a way of knowing, if they were invited to the sports thing, that they may be on track for a place if they were waiting for interview and exam to be done).
Anyway - no. They do of course put out the “no”s first and then apparently around the time they decide who they are interviewing the sports dept decide who to invite back based on the sports they’re offering....eg they won’t only take “football and rugby”....it took a while to sort through because they had a lot of applications. The arts scholarship email came out earlier as there were fewer applications - I know someone who applied for that.
So it’s great they’re going back but doesn’t make it easier to know where they’re at in terms of an offer I don’t think. Sorry to disappoint! I had wondered the same but then found out
Sorry this is rambling - hope it makes sense!
Fingers crossed for our DSs! X

Sosickoflovesongs · 24/01/2020 17:14

Oh and sorry I should add that it was the sports they were offering, and the references put forward etc - that’s how they decide among the boys who’ve made it through the exam

Gumps · 24/01/2020 18:11

That is really helpful to know thank you. Gosh it really is cut throat compared to others. However I think I prefer the smaller numbers and knowing where you are in the process. The two other schools he did sports scholarships at had around 150 kids. You could tell from the warm up that they could have sent half home straight away.

Gumps · 24/01/2020 18:12

Good luck to your DD too!

Sosickoflovesongs · 24/01/2020 19:11

It is indeed @gumps and less of a waste of time approach doing it this way - at least they try out when they have a reasonable chance of getting in by this stage (fingers crossed). My DS did two days sports scholarship at another school, then exam and didn’t get an interview after all that time and emotional investment! I love Hampton, such a great school.good luck!

Gumps · 24/01/2020 19:53

Just got the email - football and rugby :)

R272727 · 03/02/2020 17:08

For academic scholarship do they just offer those with the offer depending on the initial exam? Do they hint anything before hand if these are being offered during interview etc?
Anyone with past experience also please advice

somekindofmagic · 03/02/2020 17:40

I believe DS who were being considered for academic scholarships were called to interview within a few days of the exams being over. Then the general interview invites were sent out after that. I guess then we are all notified at the same time. Think that’s right!

R272727 · 03/02/2020 17:57

So no extra exam and just same interview not an academic interview?

Frostyskies1223 · 03/02/2020 18:29

@R272727 , if your ds was going to get an academic scholarship you would have been called back to the school a few days after the exam & met the headmaster & your ds would have had an academic scholarship interview, it's all in the booklet they gave you. Instead your ds had a normal interview so on the 14th Feb you will get a yes letter, no letter or a waiting list letter.

Kingstonmum2020 · 03/02/2020 19:32

Hi - my ds was called for academic scholarship and the interview with headmaster was before the general interviews. We won’t hear anything until Feb 14th though, even in relation to a place at Hampton.

R272727 · 05/02/2020 17:59

Can someone please confirm again the numbers that applied for 11+ and available space for that group. Thanks
