Calling all parents who’s ds sat the 11+ today... ds said maths was super hard and not the usual questions, he said he couldn’t finish the paper. Wondering if it was the case for the majority or he just had a bad day...

The LU emails have started to arrive! Haven't had one yet but a friend has!

Jbliwecd1 · 17/01/2020 17:55

Mine just arrived! 👍🏻

My friend's daughter had an academic scholarship interview at Kingston Grammar today. She said the Admissions staff told her the standard this year was exceptionally high so they interviewed more children for scholarship than they have done in the past . This may be why many children didn't get a regular interview.

Although I'm not sure why this year was different to any other ? I hope it gives some comfort to those children who didn't get through.

Sorry, when you say about KCS is that Kings in Wimbledon? I thought they were letting people know next week

R272727 · 17/01/2020 20:51

When do the nos and yes come out after the interview for Hampton. Is just awful waiting Confused

anewdecade · 17/01/2020 20:57

They will all come on the 14th Feb- posted on the 13th.

Frostyskies1223 · 17/01/2020 20:59

@R272727 , Hampton, RGS, KGS & many other schools send their yes letters on the same day so they arrive on 14th Feb & you have 1/2 term to consider. In the case of RGS they have a different system for No letters as they don't interview all candidates.
The waiting period is long but it's better to get to the interview stage & results in mid Feb than to receive no letters at this point. Best of luck to your ds.

R272727 · 17/01/2020 21:07

@Frostyskies1223 thanks. When do the nos come out for RGS? Best of luck to your DS. Did you apply to KCS too?

Surbitonlady · 19/01/2020 11:49

My DS has a English interview for KGS, and a maths interview for Hampton... any guidance for what they will ask in either interview would be gratefully received! He’s obviously borderline at both.

lifeisnotagame · 19/01/2020 14:43

Not guaranteed, but English could be reading a passage, poem etc and answering questions about it. It's pretty standard.

Maths - asking maths problems, either the answer or how they would go about solving it

Good luck!

Surbitonlady · 20/01/2020 08:38

Thanks. Feels like he’s borderline for both and likely to get neither! As most people I know have gone straight through with just a usual interview or been rejected.

Ptarmigan68 · 20/01/2020 09:06

Surbitonlady there is clearly something they like or your son would not have been offered interview. Try stay positive at this stressful time.

somekindofmagic · 20/01/2020 09:09

@Surbitonlady we are the same with Hampton. I’m trying to look at it as a chance for DS to shine and shoW his (actually v good) maths skills. We could look at it as positive thing... not everyone gets to meet with a teacher at interview stage to drill down into their abilities. Good luck.

Surbitonlady · 20/01/2020 09:16

Thanks all!

R272727 · 21/01/2020 17:35

Does anyone know when the nos for Hampton will come now after the interviews? Would they send them out earlier than the yes? Also anyone have DS at Hampton who can let me know how big the class sizes are please Smile

TaupeAndTeal · 21/01/2020 17:54

@R272727 it will be Feb 14th. Happy Valentine's Day ❤️Confused

Frostyskies1223 · 21/01/2020 18:27

@R272727 class size at Hampton is 24-25 so 125 starting at age 11 and 75 more joining at 13. (In the current year 8 it's 150 at 11 & 50 joining at 13 so it can vary),

somekindofmagic · 21/01/2020 18:35

How did folks feel the interviews went? Hard to know isn’t it. I did think it was all handled as well as possible and it’s a nice touch to meet with the head in his study in small groups.
Trying to trust in the process now!

lifeisnotagame · 21/01/2020 20:22

I got absolutely nothing from my son! Yes, was nice to meet the head. 700 sat the exam, interviewing a third roughly. 130 places, 40 will be from the prep assured places and 10+ acceptances, so 90 available at 11+. Not every boy interviewed will be offered but some will go on a wait list.

R272727 · 21/01/2020 20:50

@lifeisnotagame did they give these numbers to you? I thought about 900 applied this year? Did they tell the others no straight away? Or are they still waiting for answers?

lifeisnotagame · 21/01/2020 21:00

The admission lady said this afternoon that 700 sat 11+. The other 200 you are referring to must have been 12+, 13+ etc sitting? Or even 10+ on top

lifeisnotagame · 21/01/2020 21:04

Does anyone know how many sat KGS? Do Hampton and KGS come out on the same day?

TaupeAndTeal · 21/01/2020 21:09

Over 750 sat KGS.

Over 1000 sat Hampton (but I don't know the breakdown of 10+, 11+, 12+, 13+ )

The results come out on 14th of February in line with a lot of other schools.

R272727 · 21/01/2020 21:14

@TaupeAndTeal and @lifeisnotagame do you know that if all the nos have been sent out for Hampton for those who are all straight no?? Am I right to assume we are part of the 240 who are maybe now?

lifeisnotagame · 21/01/2020 21:19

Sorry R272727 I don't know. So not everyone has been told yes (interview) or no yet?
