Ds quite chipper!
Said aqa maths higher was "fine"
He was disappointed the edexcel history paper wasn't tougher (?).....he found the subject (women) easy just not sure on the question structures.
He likes to show off his knowledge on this era so felt short changed 😳

bizzey · 11/06/2019 16:27

Sorry should have said "bum fluff" electric shaver.

DeRigueurMortis · 11/06/2019 16:35

AQA Higher maths here.

DS said it went well and he only found one question a bit tricky but speaking to his maths teacher afterwards he thinks he got it right.

Busy day for us tomorrow with Chemistry and Electronics.

After that just one more to go on Friday.

Sorry to hear the EdExcel maths paper was tough. At least everyone seems to have the same feedback so it should be reflected in the grade boundaries (and equally, but the other way round in the AQA paper if it was easier).

I agree one exam board would be simpler but whilst that's not the case we'll have to hope the grade boundaries even the playing field for everyone.

Arewedone · 11/06/2019 17:05

Sorry to hear re the Maths paper. Sounds like the stinker igcse we had last week! Hopefully grade boundaries will prevail🤞🏻
It’s really interesting re the igcse v gcse, I discussed it with Dd who sat igcse and used some of the new gcse syllabus for practice, her feedback was that it is a different syllabus but felt both were similar level with the only difference being igcse is 2 calculator papers.

Arewedone · 11/06/2019 17:08

Bizzy- thats so funny! Our local boys have a strict uniform policy but have been spraying their hair!

Arewedone · 11/06/2019 17:10

Buffy- great your DS feeling better... the problem with men is they think they understand “ women”🤣

Iambuffy · 11/06/2019 17:12

🤣🤣

TeenTimesTwo · 11/06/2019 17:18

bizzy
The school has a few options:

  • ignore
  • kick up a bit of a fuss for appearance's sake but in a mild manner
  • make them take exam in isolation
  • refuse entry to the exam unless sorted

Does he really want to risk a member of the SLT being fed up and causing him unnecessary stress just before an exam? (It seems a bit disrespectful to the school he's been at for 5 years to me.)

SolitudeAtAltitude · 11/06/2019 17:26

Cptartapp, my DS did maths genie too, and said it helped

Some great online resources available, my DS has barely opened a book

What's the name of the (boring) deadpan science guy they all watch?

Arewedone · 11/06/2019 17:28

Bill nye the science guy 👍🏻

Arewedone · 11/06/2019 17:29

Same here- Seneca all the way with the exception of past papers. Apologies for so many posts I’m sat waiting in a car park for Dd to finish a singing lesson

TabbyStar · 11/06/2019 17:34

DD said Edexcel maths higher was fine, I think she's probably missed something somewhere....

cantkeepawayforever · 11/06/2019 17:37

DD also thought Edexcel Higher was fine - harder than 1st paper and easier than the second.

5 exams to go.....

Bakeandyarn · 11/06/2019 17:58

DD also Edexcel maths and thought it was hard but alright. That was the general consensus amongst her friendship group which is reassuring.

MaudBaileysGreenTurban · 11/06/2019 18:08

Well ds is fully into revision-avoidance tactics - his room is SPOTLESS Grin

He's promised me he's going to sit down tomorrow and work his way steadily through his geography fieldwork revision booklet. It should be a straightforward win for him and it would be really daft to chuck it away at this point even if he's already in wind-down mode.

Taster days for his two sixth-form colleges have come through which is exciting. And he's now planning all his activities for the next 2.5 months...including, hopefully, getting a job!

Good luck to all DCs who still have several to go...I am feeling very relieved for ds that Thursday is the end of it all (although to be fair he did start early!)

doublechocadooberry · 11/06/2019 18:15

Edexcel higher here. DS said really hard. Feels more confident about paper 3 than 2 and is really hoping he has done enough to get a 6 but not confident. Fingers crossed from me.

Limping our way to the end.

Iambuffy · 11/06/2019 18:58

Chemistry tomorrow.

Anyone else's dc getting a bit emotional about leaving?

KittyMcKitty · 11/06/2019 19:05

Ds will be soooo pleased when Chemistry is over. DS is planning on staying at his school (I think the vast majority of the year will stay) but they will get some new people as the 6th form PAN is bigger.

Arewedone · 11/06/2019 19:08

Dd staying at school, after Chem tomorrow only physics. I can’t wait for this to be over

Iambuffy · 11/06/2019 19:11

No 6th form provision locally :(

KittyMcKitty · 11/06/2019 19:16

That’s tough buffy do the schools only go to year 11? How far will he have to travel? Do most students from his school go to the same 6th form?

In other news here ds still hasn’t got anything to wear to prom but has got an incredibly long list of parties/ gigs to go to!

Iambuffy · 11/06/2019 19:20

There are 3/4 6th forms most kids go to.
All similar distances away.
His favoured one is on a uni campus and I'm a bit Confused as to if it's the right one....he's going from a smallish school to a huge one.
I'm worried he will just be a number Sad

srilankadreaming · 11/06/2019 19:28

buffy No sixth forms in any of the local schools here either. But only a couple of miles to the town where there are 2 colleges ( but only one good one). Did I read up thread that you live in a rural location? That might be a long trek to college then.
Thanks to all for your good wishes this morning after DD's dreadful night last night. Luckily both AQA Maths and Edexcel History were so much better than she feared. As others have said Edexcel History was a gift. Hoping she'll be more relaxed and actually sleep tonight before chemistry.

Iambuffy · 11/06/2019 19:30

Glad she's feeling better.

Semi rural but sort of on the outskirts of the county

srilankadreaming · 11/06/2019 19:30

Sorry cross post buffy. Yes I agree about the just being a number thing too.
