The last one is almost full!

that should have been there were 23 questions instead of 20. Hmm

Luciaia · 11/06/2019 13:22

Dd also says edexcel maths was long. She couldn’t do the second to last question and knows she got a 4 marker wrong but she’s crossing her fingers for working out marks somewhere. There were apparently lots of questions about commenting on graphs and peoples’ mistakes which she hates

pikapikachu · 11/06/2019 13:31

Dd is normally 7-8 but found the paper a nightmare- too long etc She thinks that she might be looking at a 6 considering how badly she's done today.

Fibbke · 11/06/2019 13:52

Dd did edexcel but igcse so only had two papers. All these different boards are silly.

Bimkom · 11/06/2019 13:56

Well DS has just texted me a link to twitter which suggests that Edexcel may have pinched a question from the AQA further maths textbook. The exact question, with the same place names and everything!

Bimkom · 11/06/2019 13:57

That means of course that those who do further maths with AQA and maths with Edexcel (and there must be some), will have had seen the exact question before. DS was wondering about breach of copyright, amongst other questions.

Iambuffy · 11/06/2019 14:09

Oh, bugger.
Ds does aqa higher maths.
Shit.

SolitudeAtAltitude · 11/06/2019 14:19

Why is that bad Iambuffy?

Iambuffy · 11/06/2019 14:27

Sounds like a very hard paper.
He hates maths.

Iambuffy · 11/06/2019 14:28

Hopefully edexcel history paper 3 wasnt horrendous

readyforsunshine · 11/06/2019 14:40

AQA generally seems to have gone ok with most buffs, it’s edexcel that’s caused issues.

steppemum · 11/06/2019 14:44

I think what I find astonishing is that they will have an 8 or a 9 or a 4 in GCSE maths, but, no-one will know that one candidate did a really hard paper and the next person didn't.

There should be one exam board

WeirdOne · 11/06/2019 14:52

DS also found it far too long and hard. This is one of his strongest subjects and A level choice.

He also couldn't complete all the questions.
And knows he got a few things wrong.

WeirdOne · 11/06/2019 14:54

Sorry also Edexcel higher

MaddieElla · 11/06/2019 14:58

Not spoken to DD about History but I've a feeling the question she really really wanted was on the Edexcel paper and not hers. Women in Nazi Germany. Sad

MaddieElla · 11/06/2019 14:59

It's astonishing that the paper couldn't be finished, I haven't heard of that for any other paper so far. How unfair.

Appleby39 · 11/06/2019 15:04

History exam over, he said it went quite well as was about medicine. Son is now devouring a Mcdonald's meal as he's hungry and needs to replenish his brain cells, for what I know not as that was his last exam. We plan on going out for a meal later in the week to celebrate. Cross fingers for result day.

MaddieElla · 11/06/2019 15:10

Have had a quick update that history was a blessing. But she was gutted she didn't get the question Edexcel did. She did get the slavery question though and that was a solid 9 in mocks, so she's happy.

Maths is so touch and go, I really couldnt call how she's done there.

SilentSister · 11/06/2019 15:20

TBF I know that the exam boards do a lot of work between themselves to ensure standardisation of papers, to avoid being accused of being too easy, or loosing "customers" for being too hard. Also, don't forget, each exam is self leveled as, and of itself, depending on the difficulty. A very hard exam will have lower grade boundaries, an easier one will have higher grade boundaries. It all basically comes out in the wash.

readyforsunshine · 11/06/2019 15:39

Yes that’s my understanding Those that have had an ‘easier’ paper will need a higher mark than those on a tougher paper. I feel sorry for those lacking confidence faced with a tougher paper though, must be demoralising for them.

onaroll · 11/06/2019 15:53

Dd is home.
EDEXL (h) maths she said the paper was harder than the last 2, she struggled with 3 of the questions but says 3 questions out of 3 papers is not bad. She finished but complained more than normal.
History also EDEXCEL- felt the paper was a gift . Says the examiners will get fed up with her writing ‘in the nazis view’ as she doesn’t hold the same sexist views when it came to writing about women in Nazi Germany. Hmm sounds like she gave a debate as well as answers.
She’s starving - now stuffing her face. I dislike ‘two exam days’ as she doesn’t eat before getting home.

cptartapp · 11/06/2019 16:06

DS found this Edexel (higher) the easiest of the three, with paper 1 non-calc definitely having been the hardest. My friend is a teacher at the school and says this paper has split the year, some think it was the hardest paper, others found it fine. DS did a last minute predicted paper on Maths Genie last night and says a a few similar questions came up, so maybe that helped. All done now anyway. Onto Chemistry.

onaroll · 11/06/2019 16:09

I’m another person that would definitely like all our kids ( wherever they are schooled) to sit the same exams (board).
Until that happens ( which it won’t ) I don’t think there can ever be true standardised exams for all.
Until then , there will always be debate and questions.

bizzey · 11/06/2019 16:13

Well he is home ..but i have not asked him anything yet.
He has just climbed into bed with drink snacks and headphones !
9pm is when he starts talking to me 🤣

bizzey · 11/06/2019 16:24

One thing he did tell me though...
For some reason him and a few friends decided exam time would be a good time to not shave and see how their beards grow ! (School has a clean shaven policy)
(My 100% never in trouble and would never dream of doing anything wrong ...has turned into a little rebel 😁)

Today Hoy has told him to shave otherwise he will be in trouble.

He has1 exam tomorrow and last one Friday. What could they do ..joking aside could they refuse him to sit the exams ?

He will need to wet shave it now as the cheap littl"bum fluff" ones i bought them wont get through it now.
It is not even much but my god it looks good .
(Very neat with natural "chin strap)

Should i be worrying??
