Re: 6th form sadness.
In DS's friendship circle there's a pretty much 50/50 split.
Half are staying (or hoping to stay) at the school 6th form, the others are going to the nearest college.
The decisions seem to be based on a mixture of aspirations (the college is better for vocational courses but by no means bad at A Levels just not as good as the school) and it being a much better location for some students.
So he's somewhat sad that their little "gang" will be no more.
That said it's been interesting that those wanting to continue at the school have started to become closer as if as a group they are already "preparing" for the split (and I understand those going to college are doing the same).
They've made some plans for after the exams and bar one they all involve just the "schoolies" as they are now calling themselves. It's reminiscent of a "conscious uncoupling"
DS looked at both, but tbh the school won hands down for him in terms of both location and results re: A Levels - plus he's enjoyed it there and likes the teachers (specifically in the subjects he wants to progress with) so there didn't seem any reason to throw the dice on an unknown.
They get quite a few new students coming in for 6th form so hopefully they'll all have the opportunity to meet new people.
I must admit I'm pleased and don't envy those of you who've had the additional stress of which educational choice next.
The reality for us, if he doesn't get into 6th form re: his results he'll do well enough to be accepted at the college - fingers crossed that's not an issue but I know we are very lucky to have a "known" plan b.
Good luck to everyone for tomorrow!
