KittyMcKitty · 11/06/2019 19:53

KittyMcKitty · 11/06/2019 19:53

KittyMcKitty · 11/06/2019 20:01

Foslady · 11/06/2019 20:03

Foslady · 11/06/2019 20:04

Primerose

NationalAnthem · 11/06/2019 20:22

Maths AQA went well this morning easiest yet! Geography next which apparently can't be studied for!

Arewedone · 11/06/2019 20:32

Still Seneca for us for chemistry and physics.
I know I should be more supportive but just can’t wait now for it all to be over

Re: 6th form sadness.

In DS's friendship circle there's a pretty much 50/50 split.

Half are staying (or hoping to stay) at the school 6th form, the others are going to the nearest college.

The decisions seem to be based on a mixture of aspirations (the college is better for vocational courses but by no means bad at A Levels just not as good as the school) and it being a much better location for some students.

So he's somewhat sad that their little "gang" will be no more.

That said it's been interesting that those wanting to continue at the school have started to become closer as if as a group they are already "preparing" for the split (and I understand those going to college are doing the same).

They've made some plans for after the exams and bar one they all involve just the "schoolies" as they are now calling themselves. It's reminiscent of a "conscious uncoupling" Grin

DS looked at both, but tbh the school won hands down for him in terms of both location and results re: A Levels - plus he's enjoyed it there and likes the teachers (specifically in the subjects he wants to progress with) so there didn't seem any reason to throw the dice on an unknown.

They get quite a few new students coming in for 6th form so hopefully they'll all have the opportunity to meet new people.

I must admit I'm pleased and don't envy those of you who've had the additional stress of which educational choice next.

The reality for us, if he doesn't get into 6th form re: his results he'll do well enough to be accepted at the college - fingers crossed that's not an issue but I know we are very lucky to have a "known" plan b.

Good luck to everyone for tomorrow!

Iambuffy · 11/06/2019 21:12

Ds is quite excited about 6th form at the "big" college but....I dunno. Maybe it's me in overprotective mum mode?
He will be sad leaving his school. It's been a happy time for him. He genuinely likes a lot of his teachers and the head thinks he's great :)
There are a group of kids planning on going to the big 6th form so he will have travelling companions anyway...

DeRigueurMortis · 11/06/2019 21:22

Buffy I think if there's a group of them all transferring to a 6th Form College it definitely helps with the transition.

The excitement of the "new" but with the safety net of having people they know around them.

His friends going to College are already talking apparently about being glad to leave "school" and very much perceive it as the "cool" choice (they may be right given it's the self proclaimed nerds in the "schoolie" gang Grin).

Iambuffy · 11/06/2019 21:24

😊
Sounds like they have found their "tribe"

DeRigueurMortis · 11/06/2019 21:26

I think you've probably nailed the social dynamics of my sons friendship circle with that statement - tribes indeed Grin

TabbyStar · 11/06/2019 21:27

Buffy I went to a sixth form on the edge of a uni campus, wonder if it's the same one, but in reality the two were quite separate. Don't know if it's the same now.

Iambuffy · 11/06/2019 21:41

I'm sure it has its pros tabby
I'm just being worry wort I think.
He is very keen on the history syllabus there.

whojamaflip · 11/06/2019 22:23

Ds is off to agricultural college AND he's going to be living on campus as it's just too far to travel in every day!! Doing a level 3 extended diploma which is the equivalent of A levels so will give him UCAS points should he decide to carry on to uni.

Can't believe my pfb is leaving home in September ConfusedShockSadSmile

Arewedone · 11/06/2019 22:41

It seems to have taken forever to reach this point and in reality we have 1 more summer before they all start moving on 😰

DeRigueurMortis · 11/06/2019 23:26

AGGGHH....

So after weeks of DS being determined he's not going to Prom we've had a total reversal just before he went to bed tonight.

I've looked at last years photos and frankly we have some work to do....

I've managed, just 24 hours before the deadline to get him a ticket.

Now to get him "Suited and Booted"....

To be fair I think it's going to be an awful lot easier than if I had a daughter Blush

Actually quite shocked at the photos - there is some very serious cash being splashed (cars, outfits etc) Shock

Thankful it's not an issue in so far we've got the car covered and DH said he's taking charge of sartorial arrangements...Hmm

DeRigueurMortis · 11/06/2019 23:29

Who I'd feel the same....

I'm pretty sure I'll feel that way in 2 years time if he gets to Uni!!

slalomsuki · 12/06/2019 05:57

Big day for us today with Chemistry higher paper and then German listening followed by German reading and writing. Probably the worst combination that could have been timetabled together. I won't be able to get any feedback midway through and the phone will be locked away for the day at school so I'm hoping everything goes OK for him.

Foslady · 12/06/2019 06:50

That sounds heavy!
We have German and chemistry, so at least she gets a break from a day of one subject.
Good luck everyone!

Fibbke · 12/06/2019 07:07

Dd did edexcel maths but igcse. She only had two papers, at the same time as the first two gcse edexcel maths. Is that right?! I'm paranoid she should have done the three papers Confused

TabbyStar · 12/06/2019 07:22

Buffy the big sixth form college is one of DD's choices, and she also wants to do history. She didn't like it much on the open day as it wasn't very well organised, but we went back on a working day and she did like it. I originally thought she'd sir somewhere smaller with more support, but their system of individual coaches convinced me that she would be looked after. I think it would be good for her to mix with a wider group of people, it's the travel she's not sure about.
