Said it was the worst paper she had ever sat , she’s at an academically strong school so wouldn’t have expected that. Igcse edexcel

Bimkom · 06/06/2019 11:15

Relief here - DS texted to say it went "well". Says he thinks he got the last question wrong, but it sounds like it was only two marks, "but if only about 10 of set 1 could do the last question the rest of the country will fail".
I still think I am not going to tell him about the award until after Tuesday's last maths paper, but I am breathing a little easier. This is the first time we will ever have been to prize afternoon. Usually, as gleegeek says, it is only a very select group who are able across the board and get the very top grades who get to go (and their parents). the Year 7s have to sit through it as a rent-a-crowd, but the rest of the school can leave that afternoon. I was wondering whether we might have a shot at going this year, but figured if we did it would be for science, although DS did tell me earlier in the year that his French teacher was muttering about a "most improved" prize (no way would he ever get a prize for top in French, but this same work ethic has been showing dividends across the board, and given that he failed the mock in February of Year 10 for French, and scraped a 7 in November, I can see the most improved aspect. Still, that assumes there is a "most improved" prize. The letter that came for maths doesn't say it is a "most improved", just the "maths prize").

Bimkom · 06/06/2019 11:20

DS sat regular Edexcel GCSE. DS will do better in a harder paper, as the silly mistakes will count for less, and, oddly enough, it forces him to concentrate more so there are fewer of them. So if he said it went well there is a pretty strong likelihood that it was actually a stinker.

Arewedone · 06/06/2019 11:26

Dd igcse edexcel just called says Q1-18 we’re going swimmingly and she was steaming through it then after that became very difficult. 3 questions impossible to answer but hoping for working out marks! Apparently girl who is a national maths champion came out in tears which made her feel better:(

steppemum · 06/06/2019 11:28

no idea yet from ds.

Train was 12 minutes late this morning, they started to panic, despite the fact it is often 10 minutes late, and they have 30 minutes spare time in hand. I am having to it in the car park in the car until I see their train leave - just in case. (they think that jumping in the car will get them to school on time, but it won't, traffic is too bad, and it is windy route compared to straight railway)

hoping maths went well, it is his first A level choice

SilentSister · 06/06/2019 11:30

Arewedone Oh no....... haven't heard from DD yet. This does not bode well.

doublechocadooberry · 06/06/2019 11:34

Well done to your DS Bimkom, that's fantastic news. You must be over the moon for him.

DS said how hard he found maths. He really struggled which has knocked his confidence as paper two is usually his stronger paper.

Is now revising for history. So much to learn for so few questions. Lets hope they play to our DC's strengths.

SilentSister · 06/06/2019 11:36

A text - she says it went really well !!!!!!! She is worried it won't balance out her paper 1 though. Now I am hoping if Arewedone is actually right, and it was quite challenging and she has done well, she might be in luck with the grade boundaries. I really don't want her to have to retake it.

Arewedone · 06/06/2019 11:39

Silentsister - yes also hoping grade boundaries will work in our favour too- Dd found first paper a breeze and this is an A level choice!

steppemum · 06/06/2019 11:41

ds is convinced that hard papers will work in his favour with grade boundaries.

Just a little too optimistic I feel....

KittyMcKitty · 06/06/2019 11:44

Congratulations to your ds Bimkom that’s fantastic.

My ds did Edexcel maths and said it was “fine”. AQA History (Migration 790-present and Elizabeth) this afternoon.

Arewedone · 06/06/2019 11:46

History sounds like an absolute nightmare- hats off to all those DC taking it!

catontherun · 06/06/2019 11:55

DC is half-way through after todays exams. Flagging a little and half-term revision wasn't as extensive as it could have been due to being on holiday and most of us getting a rotten cold/sore throat.

From what's been said, I think DC will fall short of the predicted grades but maybe it's just catastrophising, I really can't tell.

We're thinking of a gift of something they want and could do with as a reward for the effort put in so not linking it to actual results.

There'll definitely be a celebratory meal out after the last exam.

bizzey · 06/06/2019 12:05

I won't get any information from ds apart from a shrug and "yrah it was ok"

He will open up more to ds1 doing A level maths .
In fact the 2 of them were doing some maths together last night.

History this afternoon....Henry VIII and Superpowers.
Russia/America/Cuba/Cold War ..sort of stuff.
He has always loved History and it was going to be A level choice....
But his mojo has gone .

steppemum · 06/06/2019 12:06

ds just texted, maths went 'really well'
phew.

2 more tomorrow and then 4 next week. Finally feels like we are on the downward stretch

Bimkom · 06/06/2019 12:06

DS told me last night that given that he hasn't "socialised in a year and a half" not to expect to see him between the exams and when he goes away with his youth group. He says he will do a bit of clearing and packing and sorting out clothes (and shopping with me for ones that fit), but that he might stay overnight at friends and really not to expect him to be around. Don't know if this will materialise, although I think I will support it if it does. I have agreed to fund about four singing lessons crammed in before he goes away (he even stopped the singing over this last couple of months while focussing on these GCSEs, so I think that is fair enough). Not sure what he will do once he gets back from his trip, except that he has been offered a week of work experience at a hospital, which he is keen to do (DS1 connection, the doctor that supervises him also volunteers at a charity which supports children with conditions like DS1, and he asked her whether he could have work experience with her).

TabbyStar · 06/06/2019 12:08

DD also happy with Edexel maths, hoping to make up a bit for paper 1, which she didn't like as much. She dashed in and back to school for a history revision class, then that'll be 3 GCSEs completed today, and 5 tomorrow after Eng Lang and biology.

clary · 06/06/2019 12:11

Maudbailey can I be cheeky and ask how come only geog left? Doesn't everyone have Eng lang and biology tomorrow and maths, phys, chem next week?

MaudBaileysGreenTurban · 06/06/2019 12:11

Ds also quite happy with maths so fingers crossed!

Arewedone · 06/06/2019 12:14

Clary- it’s down to the exam boards. We only have Biology tomorrow then Chem and physics next week

whojamaflip · 06/06/2019 12:17

Ds happy with maths and said the circle theorem question was an absolute gift! Didn't finish the last question but did do some working out so hopes he gets a couple of marks for that. Apparently was a better one than the first paper (edexcel)

Eng Lang and biology tomorrow then he has 4 left next week - maths, chemistry, geography and physics.

Arewedone · 06/06/2019 12:22

Is gcse maths 3 papers?

readyforsunshine · 06/06/2019 12:23

Maths went well here, better than non calc but she’s stronger at calc so not surprising!
We had train issues this morning so I drove her in to be on the safe side.
English & biology tomo then only 3 next week Smile

Iambuffy · 06/06/2019 12:26

Anyones dc do aqa maths?

TabbyStar · 06/06/2019 12:39
