Maths today here also. This is an A level choice so there is some pressure. We've not had a good few weeks with family crisis which may be coming to and end and DS has coped well. It has actually helped we have A levels on the go at the same time so there has been some sibling competitive revision taking place at times.

Biology tomorrow and then German, Chemistry, Physics and more Geography next week.

myrtleWilson · 06/06/2019 08:20

Congratulations binkom DS!

8 to go here- 2 today and 2 tomorrow and then a better paced final week.

Had a wobbler moment the other day suddenly thinking what if DD has misunderstood all her exam questions... unlikely I know but my nerves were a jangling!
I can't wait for her to be able to move on to a levels!

Arewedone · 06/06/2019 08:32

Doublethejoy - omg @ still 10 to go 😰
I think we are going to take the ideas from here and Dd is going to collect everyone’s revision guides and hold a lunchtime sale for the year below to raise money for the school charity.
Drama here this morning as Dd cycled off to school leaving exam pencil case on the kitchen table!! Had to jump in the car and meet her at the traffic lights .
Good luck everyone for maths. It’s an A level choice for us so holding my breath!

MaudBaileysGreenTurban · 06/06/2019 08:34

Ds didn't enjoy geog yesterday which is a bit of a worry as it's an A-level choice. He said there were some really odd questions. Hey ho. It's out of the way now at least.

Maths today, urgh. DS is dreading it and I don't blame him. I just told him all he needs to do is pass it.

Thank god, only one left after this. Geog fieldwork, which should be ok.

Arewedone · 06/06/2019 08:36

I keep looking over last years grade boundaries and telling myself it will be ok!

WeirdOne · 06/06/2019 08:48

Good luck everyone.
Maths also A level choice here.

Class Civ OK yesterday, she was pretty happy with it. Just one odd question about description of Diana's Insulae - they hadn't done it, it wasn't in their notes, and she had never heard of it, so she made something up. Only a 4 marker though.

Maths and History today. She is still upset about Paper 1, looking over her notes yesterday, she says if she had revised properly she could easily have done all the questions she struggled with. She had done a lot of papers, and got good marks, but I think she didn't originally look into enough detail on specific topics, so froze when she couldn't do them immediately. She is hoping to pull back some marks today.

Same as others have said up-thread, she was told she could get a 9, I wish they hadn't, and now realistically won't, so she is feeling the pressure. She mentioned if she got a 7 (or less) she wants to retake. She was telling me that everyone wants 8's and 9's now. The new number system seems to have moved their expectations up again, crazy, and sad.

Once today is over, we only have 4 left, and those 4 on Wednesday and Friday. A lovely long weekend of R&R beckons. I have bought her a surprise dress, just because I love her and am proud of her, and she is not even finished yet, oh well.

CarrieErbag · 06/06/2019 08:58

Loving the surprise dress.
Maths today, Biology tomorrow and just Chem next week then it's over.

Arewedone · 06/06/2019 09:05

Silentsister- what a lovely thing to do for Dd

Itsagrandoldteam · 06/06/2019 09:10

My DS still has 10 to go, but after tomorrow it will only be 6, that sounds a lot better.
I also need to decide what to do with his pristine revision guides, after spending all that money on them he decided that he would rather use seneca, free science lessons, etc.

Powergower · 06/06/2019 09:20

We have 4 this week to go and 3 next week. Ds just keen to get them over. Untouched revision guides are being saved for ds2 and I'm sure they'll remain completely untouched by him too as he's completely bone idle. Ds has found YouTube and online resources more useful than books.

He's now trying desperately to find a job as he wants to work over summer. There doesn't seem to be anything about with ask the uni students back.

gleegeek · 06/06/2019 09:35

Am sticking my fingers in my ears about nearly finishing exams. Next week is dd's worst week! Food tech, maths, history, chemistry, german listening, reading and writing, geography and physics still to go after this week. It's cruel Angry
Dd slept ok last night- it's like a rollercoaster - but she's still full of cold. She's coming home in between maths and history as she thinks her friends will have had enough of her sniffing/sneezing/coughing. Bless!
Hope today's exams are bearable for all!

fairweathercyclist · 06/06/2019 09:51

Well I can probably make a mint selling ds's pristine, untouched revision guides then

Ahem, yes. DS has used some of them, but others (notably the guides for English lit) are very new-looking. I'll check with his school if they want some back, will just hold onto Maths in the hopefully unlikely event of him needing a resit.

SolitudeAtAltitude · 06/06/2019 09:56

my DS books are all pristine

He has been using online resources mainly, he says books are very old school and we don't understand modern life

Bimkom · 06/06/2019 09:58

Thanks for all the congratulations. The thing is, DS is not the top maths student in the school, and he knows it (and so do we). THere are several others who are naturally more mathematically gifted, and it is an exceptionally strong year. But he is the most hard working (maths teachers' report last year was about him working "tirelessly"). He has been working so hard, and he really does know it, but he has this tendency - eg to get to the end of a really complicated problem and then make a silly arithmetic or times table error at the end, or to misread the question. That, it transpires, after all the dust has settled, is what happened on the last paper - apparently he got the really hard question that they were moaning about on twitter, it was the easy questions he mistook. And yes, the pressure to get that 9 is immense, especially after getting it in the mock (but again, he wasn't the only one, but he might have been the one who got it when it wasn't as clear he would). the prize may well be a combination of that, as it can't be for absolute scores. I just hope he feels he does OK today and Tuesday, the prize day will be a bit awful if he doesn't, he will really feel like an imposter.

fairweathercyclist · 06/06/2019 09:59

This is OCR B Geography, so I imagine no-one on here will have done it (and in fact DS's school is switching the lower years as they have not been impressed with the board)

My ds is doing OCR history and has been similarly unimpressed. He seems to rate AQA a lot more (which is the board for most of his subjects).

Arewedone · 06/06/2019 10:01

Same here using online resources only. Some of our revision guides are still in original unopened wrapping. Can’t believe how many Macbeth resources I bought!

gleegeek · 06/06/2019 10:10

Bimkom it sounds like he is the perfect person to get the award! At dd's school the awards are given to a very select group of children who are able across the board. Some of them walk away with 3 or 4 awards even though GCSEs have proven easy to them. It would be much fairer if effort was also recognised sonetimes. I really hope your ds comes out happy today and you can tell him the good news Smile
OCR geog here - dd has not been impressed and rumours are the school will be switching... she is naturally good at geog but is bored by anything but the physical stuff so not an a-level choice.

SilentSister · 06/06/2019 10:59

I'm clock watching - they are just about to finish Maths.......

Arewedone · 06/06/2019 11:01

Same😬

bizzey · 06/06/2019 11:12

Any news on EDEXEL maths ?
Should have finished 10.30 ish.

Just glad the weather has been "kind" !
Fresh here with rain ...so no heatwave to cope with in the hall.

bizzey · 06/06/2019 11:13

6 to go after today .

Arewedone · 06/06/2019 11:13

Ok well Dd just text to say girls came out crying
