Is there a thread yet for parents with kids doing entrance exams in Jan? It's been so helpful looking through previous years threads and now we're going through it I'd love a hand-hold and any advice on what to expect!

Hi all, I have just joined as this thread has been my life saver and keeping me sane lol. We heard from my sons head teacher today. Aparantly he is being offered an academic scholarship but we don't know what percentage so going to be waiting for the post tomorrow. Wishing everyone the best of luck and what is meant to be will be.

Bondiboo74 · 14/02/2019 20:30

Congratulations Goingcrazymother. That’s fab news. What school is it? Tonight is going to be a loooooong one!

Chelsea3 · 14/02/2019 20:30

goingcrazymother that's great news, Congratulations. Is this for 10+ or 11+? As it seems odd that some parents are finding out earlier while others are still waiting. If its for 11+, then that might explain it.

I'll need some sedatives tonight as I can't imagine getting much sleep.

OlennasWimple · 14/02/2019 20:47

We got the (expected) thanks but no thanks letter today

Chelsea3 · 14/02/2019 21:03

OlennasWimple so sorry to hear that. What made you think it was expected and which school?

walkingtheplank · 14/02/2019 21:11

Sorry to hear that OleannasWimple. Do you have any other options?

OlennasWimple · 14/02/2019 21:47

It was 13+ for Whitgift

We didn't get asked for interview, which was a bit of a giveaway Smile

It was a bit of a stretch given that we have been out of the UK education system for four years now, and DS had virtually no preparation for the exams, never mind two years of tutoring (common amongst his old school friends) or even the ability to chat to boys already at the school or who have sat in previous years to get a feel for the sort of thing that they are looking for.

Not sure what our plan is - it's not 100% that we are going to come back to the UK this year, and we had hoped that schooling would help make the decision for us (ie if DS got a great school offer, we would be wrong to keep him from it). Hey ho

MuMama25 · 14/02/2019 22:24

😬😬 😬😬😬😬 Soooo nervous!

walkingtheplank · 14/02/2019 23:12

Good luck one and all. Let's hope everyone gets at least one good offer tomorrow. Hoping to keep myself busy until the postie arrives at c.11.30am.

Morning all! Am working from home today. Postman walks past my house on the other side of the road at around 11.30-12 then obviously does a big loop and delivers to me at c14.00!
Can I accost him at11.30 do you think Blush

turboturtle · 15/02/2019 08:39

Good luck to all today. Fingers crossed.
Well done yo those who already know.
Our head knew the day before but wouldn't spill the beans. Just said on the morning of the offers (when I did the school drop off), that we would be happy with what we've been offered.
I remember that our postie didn't turn up until the afternoon.

enterparentone · 15/02/2019 08:42

MotherofPirates absolutely!!

MotherofPirates, if you know your postman then definitely approach him. We knew ours and were in a similar position.
We couldn't wait for him to 'do the loop' so we asked him and he dug out our envelopes.

MotherofPirates · 15/02/2019 08:51

Thanks! I'll try not to look too demented when I ask!

Bondiboo74 · 15/02/2019 09:27

My post came really early today. Offers from T & W here! Over the moon.

MotherofPirates · 15/02/2019 09:28

Congratulations Bondi great news to kick us off!

plasterdisaster · 15/02/2019 09:45

Offers for 10+ for both T and W in addition to scholarships.

Bondiboo74 · 15/02/2019 09:46

Congratulations plasterdisaster! That’s brilliant

enterparentone · 15/02/2019 09:52

Congratulations Bondi and plaster!

wimbles101 you asked earlier about how 10+ candidates found this year's exams.

Relatively painless I would say. Started to prep in Dec with reasoning. DS's maths and English were ok so we did a story every few days. Maths did some bond papers.

volpemum · 15/02/2019 10:35

Phew Two nice big envelopes for us!!! So so so relieved (I actually cried...am pathetic!)

So happy to have the W offer!

Good luck everyone !

Pickofthepops · 15/02/2019 10:36
