Is there a thread yet for parents with kids doing entrance exams in Jan? It's been so helpful looking through previous years threads and now we're going through it I'd love a hand-hold and any advice on what to expect!

We got 2 offers for 11+ today, phew, made it.

Remember for anyone who doesn't get an offer its a massive numbers game and they all end up where they should be x

Chelsea3 · 15/02/2019 10:57

Amazing news all round so far. I'm sat in my front loving room waiting patiently. I've checked for postie 9 times in the last hour!! I think hubby ready to throw me out of the house. This final stretch is torturous

Dubai113 · 15/02/2019 11:23

Well done to all who've received offers. We have an offer from W! So pleased as that was DS's number one choice. Its been a very long and stressful journey for us.
Good luck to those still waiting.

walkingtheplank · 15/02/2019 11:34

Our post is now officially late - usually arrives by 11.30 - aaaagh!

Motheroftw0 · 15/02/2019 11:36

Same here, we usually get ours around 11! No sign of postman yet Sad

Chelsea3 · 15/02/2019 11:42

Got a waiting list letter from T.. and offer from W for 10+. Am pleased!!!

Motheroftw0 · 15/02/2019 11:49

Got an offer from T, no scholarship though! Relieved to have a backup. Good luck to everyone who's waiting.

walkingtheplank · 15/02/2019 11:56

I flung the door open when I saw the postie!

We have received:
W: Scholarship offer
T: Full Fee Offer
Back Up: Scholarship offer

T has always been our favourite but we probably can't afford to turn down the scholarship so likely to go with W unless DS strongly prefers T.

MotherofPirates · 15/02/2019 12:04

Congrats all! Lovely to hear all the good news! Still no sign of postie here

MotherofPirates · 15/02/2019 12:54

I accosted postie!

Interesting!

We have a scholarship offer at our 1st choice, a full-fees offer at our back up and weirdly a wait list for W.

I say weirdly because we were given REALLY strong hints in the interview that a place was in the offing so this would have been a nasty shock if W was 1st choice.
Confused

walkingtheplank · 15/02/2019 13:25

That is weird but great to receive a scholarship offer at your first choice!
Well done!

Goingcrazymother · 15/02/2019 13:55

We are thrilled to get our gist choice with scholarship at W and are on the waiting list for Trinity which was our second.... but a huge congratulations to all the boys whether they received places or not. All the boys have worked so hard and are all achievers. I know I couldn't do what they have done at such a young age. Well done to you all x

Goingcrazymother · 15/02/2019 14:02

Meant to say first! Wink

enterparentone · 15/02/2019 14:40

We got 10+ offer from Trinity which we're thrilled with!

Just to say it goes to show how unreliable testing kids this age is as the same child can be scholarship material for one school yet not even be offered by another. Seems applying to several schools is definitely worth it.

Well done all the hardworking DSs and supportive families!

An offer from each of ours - a very relieved and quite overwhelmed 11y old here - well done all. Commiserations to any who have missed - I was ready to tell my son that everyone has their day - etc - and I stand by that. Wishing you all a restful rest of day,

MuMama25 · 15/02/2019 20:03

Yey scholarship at W V relieved but yes totally agree - same boy did not get through 2nd grammars, no offer at one place and then scholarship offers for two schools - while his friends got offers where he didn’t get in and then didn’t get scholarships where he did - exams and tests at this age make no sense!

walkingtheplank · 15/02/2019 20:57

DS has gone to bed very happy but he's asked what the Whitgift Year 7 bonding trip is - I'm not sure there is one anymore. Does anyone know?

plasterdisaster · 15/02/2019 21:23

Does anyone know if the school offices will be open next week during half term or do we need to wait for school to resume the following week?

turboturtle · 15/02/2019 21:45

Well done to all today who received offers
For those on waiting list for the schools of their choice, there will be a lot of movement over the next couple of weeks as some would have chosen T & W as backups for grammars or other inde schools.
Dont despair.
Have a great half term break xx

vaux777 · 15/02/2019 21:55

Hi,
New to this thread. Looking at applying to Trinity/ Whitgift .... Just a quick question:

1)what is the percentage offered when a scholarship is offered generally at these schools? Have any of these schools ever offered a 50% scholarship or more? Can a child get both - an Academic as well as a music scholarship?

Thanks.

Yey22 · 15/02/2019 22:17

Yes a child can get a combination or all rounde but tends to be capped at 50% unless bursery on top.

Yey22 · 15/02/2019 22:18

They say generally 10-25% but a few getting the larger scholarships

Chelsea3 · 15/02/2019 22:59

plasterdisaster my understanding is that schools will be shut over half term and all activities resume w/c 25th Feb.

Neveragain2019 · 16/02/2019 07:28

Did10+. Got a full fee offer from W, the first and only choice. Applied for Art scholarship-DS's portfolio was successful but not in the art assessment.
Could I ask if you don't mind, which scholarships were offered and what percentage they were. I need to make a decision whether to try again for 11+ next year or to accept the 10+ offer if the result can be similar or worse.

user1485549700 · 16/02/2019 08:04

So here’s our conundrum; DS sat 10+ for W, as a practice run for next year, no intention of moving him until y7, but he’s gone and got himself an offer... completely baffled us all!

Do you accept, and thank your stars you don’t have to put him through 11+?

Don’t know much about whitgift tbh as we were looking at 11+ schools closer to home ie StDunstans, Alleyns, DC, now he’s got the offer do we just make it work?

Would love to hear from mums of kids who made the 10+ transition last year, pros/cons etc. And any current y6 mums’ views re child settling in and generally what the school is like?? Travel is the biggest worry for us and “what if he hates it”?

As DH says it’s a good problem to have!
