Is there a thread yet for parents with kids doing entrance exams in Jan? It's been so helpful looking through previous years threads and now we're going through it I'd love a hand-hold and any advice on what to expect!

You really can't tell with the grammar schools. DS2 got a place at Wilson's but didn't get offered a scholarship at T.

Yey22 · 13/02/2019 13:36

Trinity didn’t do specific acedemic scholarship, they did this during there interviews where as whitgift had acedemic scholarship mornings so you never know

Yey22 · 13/02/2019 13:37

I meant specific interviews.

walkingtheplank · 13/02/2019 14:24

Isn't there a difference though? I thought scholarship interviews were conducted by Senior Leadership Team and included boy and parents whilst children not being considered for scholarship are interviewed en masse on the Saturdays and parents aren't interviewed. Sadly we were the second category.

Less that 2 days to go. I feel quite anxious - as does DS unfortunately. Not helped by a boy in his class being overly competitive about it.

Yey22 · 13/02/2019 14:32

Oh ok, I didn’t know about the Saturday interviews. Luckily my son and his friends haven’t discussed. Goodluck everyone xx

Smile good luck to all the kids and parents for the results... Smile

Looking for some advice: my DS sat 10+ exam at T. Passed entrance and exam and attended interview. There was a techical delay with reference request with current school. I called T last week and they sent another email to DS school. This was received on Monday this week.

Would the school bother chasing/following up references (predominately myself chasing this in a polite manner from both ends as I knew they hadn't received anything) if there was no sign of a potential offer? I am wondering if this is a red herring, where they are simply following procedure to show they have been fair to all applicants.

The waiting game is killing me now, and I seem to be over analysing the whole thing!

Motheroftw0 · 13/02/2019 20:59

Thanks SoupDragon, that's reassuring. At the end of the day they are 10 year old kids and bound to perform differently in different exams under different circumstances.
My DS badly wants an offer from Wilson's, but I have been prepping him for a different outcome too. God this is soooo stressful, atleast with T we would know the results as the boys would be at school when the post arrives! On March 1st apparently the email would come only after 5!!!!!

Pickofthepops · 14/02/2019 06:51

Nearly there. Can't remember where I read it. Will W email head of current schools with results today? I know the procedure is established for independent schools but how about state primaries? Thanks

Pickofthepops · 14/02/2019 06:53

Am keen that our acting head doesn't assume we know results yet too and share with me or ds at pick up. They are as new to this as me.

nutnutmother · 14/02/2019 08:52

yessssssssss, got offer from W.................

enterparentone · 14/02/2019 08:59

Nutnutmother congratulations what great news. Is this for 10+ or 11+?

volpemum · 14/02/2019 09:26

nutnutmother.... wow !! Did you hear via your head ? Please do tell me as I am now tempted to leave work to go and see if we have an early envelope at home!!!

Congratulations by the way !

Jige · 14/02/2019 09:50

Congrats nutnutmother to you and your DS, he’s going to be one happy boy!

However I’m intrigued, like Pickofthepops regards when or how early do the school head find out, and whether they are informed by letter or email?

I do know that whether Indie or state your head will know whichever outcome, that bit I do know.

Dubai113 · 14/02/2019 10:05

Nutnutmother - congratulations! You must be so relieved.
Good luck to everyone else also waiting for offers. We have a long 24 hours ahead ....

nutnutmother · 14/02/2019 11:05

head gave us the heads up!! don't know what the offer is yet..... but at least expecting one tomorrow now!! good luck all

Chelsea3 · 14/02/2019 12:18

I popped into the school to ask if any emails been received and nothing!

I didn't know we could do that Jige, wish I had known earlier

Pickofthepops · 14/02/2019 13:37

Congrats nutnutmother great news :-)

. I hope my son's head doesn't spill the beans as I have to be in school later

Chelsea3 · 14/02/2019 13:39

Oh I didn't know you could request anonymity. Assumed it was a given that They would notify current school.

Jige · 14/02/2019 13:57

Motheroftw0 and Chelsea3 to be honest neither did I. We don’t get on with our current head, and I don’t see why they should know before us. Or the risk of the head spilling the beans to DS.

Not long to go............😬

Pickofthepops · 14/02/2019 13:59

I used to work in office of a London prep and remember now the head getting news from friendly registrars. Am thinking was a phone call, just not sure how formal the process is and how they might notify one state primary with whom they have had no previous relationship ever
