Is there a thread yet for parents with kids doing entrance exams in Jan? It's been so helpful looking through previous years threads and now we're going through it I'd love a hand-hold and any advice on what to expect!

Yes you do need separate trainers (non marking soles) as well as boots. They sell them in the school shop too if you want to buy from there.

Maybe call ahead to see what they have in stock and cost and compare to Sports Direct or outlets if you have any near you. If you are anywhere near 02 they now have a Nike and Adidas Outlet and there were some cheap trainers on sale in both shops.

Not getting a calculator until I know which one the school recommends.

I don’t know about shower gel/ towels but I’m sure someone will be along to advise. I would like to know too Grin.

Loveandlaugh · 19/08/2019 20:01

That's great, thank you!

Goingcrazymother · 22/08/2019 20:12

Hi, does anyone know if the boys needs to bring football boots or just trainers for the induction days?

Pickofthepops · 22/08/2019 21:59

I bought a calculator in school uniform shop which I was told is the recommended one - it appears on the uniform list. Anyone else?

Goingcrazymother · 23/08/2019 15:40

Yes I bought the calculator and a pen that the school recommend too. Fingers crossed, I think I have finished the uniforms :-)

Pickofthepops · 23/08/2019 19:01

That's a relief :-)I need to sort out removable stud football / rugby boots Then get calculator and watch engraved.

Pickofthepops · 23/08/2019 20:40

Does anyone have any recommendations screw in stud boots? I know cricket shoes but we have only bought moulded football boots before, never rugby shoes. Is anyone brand / colour / style better than another? Thanks!

walkingtheplank · 24/08/2019 01:45

We've gone for moulded cleats rather than removable studs (which tend to go AWOL). I was told this would be fine.
Ended up going to Sports Direct and just going for the best fit rather than a specific brand/style.
Buying school shoes and calculator this weekend and then I think we've finished.

Pickofthepops · 24/08/2019 08:57

Ah brilliant to know, thanks for that :-) makes life easier

Loveandlaugh · 24/08/2019 20:43

I had to pop into the school this week, and they said it didn't matter if boys didn't have rugby boots for next week, just to let you know.
Did I read somewhere they need a pack lunch?
They also told me that next week the boys do some kind of treasure hunt round the school.. a fun way of getting to know their way round I thought!

Goingcrazymother · 24/08/2019 21:05

That's nice to know. Thankyou x Can't believe it has come around so fast. Starting to feel nervous

Seeline · 27/08/2019 10:22

For all Trinity starters:

I am sure you have received a letter (via email!) from school, but just in case you haven't seen it, please be aware that major works to the tram network last week and this are causing problems with trams, buses and road closures in the area of East Croydon to the school. If any of you are planning on using public transport (or even driving) for the induction on Friday, please check your route carefully. It is supposed to be all back to normal by the first day of term.....

Pickofthepops · 27/08/2019 21:04

Timpsons won't engrave plastic - do most people scratch the name on a calculator?

walkingtheplank · 28/08/2019 00:15

We've just put a name sticker on the calculator and cover.

Pickofthepops · 28/08/2019 15:38

Thanks - yep will go down that route

Pickofthepops · 31/08/2019 22:10

Evening ladies - another question - do first form boys take part in the open Morning on 21/9? Says somewhere (term calendar maybe?) that all boys must be available but I'm not sure my son would be that much help as yet :-) Or maybe they are in classroom activities rather than four guides?

walkingtheplank · 01/09/2019 16:16

I think they probably would be involved. DD had to do it at her school after 2 weeks, had to take a map and IIRC got slightly lost.
A lot of parents probably want to hear about how easy it is to settle in anyway.

Pickofthepops · 02/09/2019 08:08

Thanks - good points

Loveandlaugh · 04/09/2019 20:06

My son really enjoyed his first day at Whitgift, hope all yours did too! Smile

Pickofthepops · 07/09/2019 12:16

Can anyone see firefly reading lists and anything other than timetable and a few policies yet? I can't see first form page at all. Maybe as using iPad? Or maybe not up yet?

Camillavanilla · 08/09/2019 10:11

@Pickofthepops is there any firefly for parents? How did you get login details? Thanks

Pickofthepops · 08/09/2019 13:04

I asked it to send me a password by saying forgot password using my email address. I think they were going to mail out details I had parent pat but not firefly so tried usual email address - see if that works for you? Did your son go to rugby trials yesterday morning? Trying to work out if it was a must for all or just those who want to be selected for squads?

Mummy195 · 08/09/2019 18:20

DS did not go to trials rugby yesterday, he was in10+ last year and was not a fan, was in the last teams, D or whatever. He felt he was the worst at trials. He thinks he would be in the last team, like F. He does not mind though, says was happy to play in the last team last year, but wondered what would happen this year as things are getting more serious or competitive with this big intake. He says friends who cannot play like him did not even go to try outs, and therefore were not required yesterday. Now he is just happy to play at non squad etc, but just not a proper match.
Normally, a parent is supposed to have written to the school with an excuse why their DS could not attend this Saturday.

Usually, almost all the boys are expected to be involved with open day.

Camillavanilla · 08/09/2019 18:41

My son did not mention anything about rugby trials. So I guess it's for children who are really interested in playing rugby.

Camillavanilla · 08/09/2019 18:43

@Pickofthepops thank you I tried that way and it worked. I have access now.
