11+ waiting for results

Hi there

My twins have both taken the 11+ in Bucks today. Results come out on 13th October, I think. It could really go either way for both of them. My biggest fear is that one gets in and the other does not (really quite possible).
Saw that last year there was a thread from parents during the waiting period and I wondered if anyone wanted to take part in a hand holding thread this year (for any county). Obviously have to be very careful what I say to DTs so would be useful to vent here.

Anyone else in similar position?

I'd like to join a handholding thread, please. We're now waiting for DD's results. I've done a lot of stressful exams in my time but taking DD to yesterday's 11plus was definitely up there with the most terrifying! (She's my eldest so I'm only just discovering that it's worse watching your children taking exams than it is doing them yourself!)

The added stress for us (which I'm trying to make sure that DD doesn't know about atm) is that we've got very limited options if she doesn't get in. Can't afford to privately educate, the secondary school in our village "'requires improvement", and we're out of area for the better comprehensives in the nearest town. She's a bright girl - but she needs to be well inside the top 10% of all the bright girls who took the exam yesterday to get a place...

Mog37 · 18/09/2018 09:18

P.S. Good luck to everyone!

Taffeta · 18/09/2018 09:38

brisklady - no idea sorry

All I know is that it’s to do with getting as close to 21% as possible and that if they’d lowered the English paper to 105 in that year there’d have been too large a surplus in one particular area of Kent that would have required way too many grammar school places than were available do it wasn’t lowered

But if you read the other forum and KCC stuff you’ll see that the 106 passmark isn’t set in stone and can change from one year to the next

It just hasn’t yet since they introduced the change 4 years ago

WhatsGoingOnEh · 18/09/2018 09:53

@Mog37 Are the better comps in the town oversubscribed? If they're not, you could still get a place. Have you called the local admissions team (I've always found them really helpful) and asked their advice/likelihood of her getting a place?

Totally with you on the stress levels!

PenguinSaidEverything · 21/09/2018 06:19

Went to an open day for the local comprehensive last night - DD seemed really taken with it. So hopefully not too many tears if she doesn’t get a good result from 11+!

AalyaSecura · 21/09/2018 07:42

We had a similar experience last night, Penguin, we quite liked the local comprehensive; we’d been last year too and felt the opposite, but the head has changed since. I then had a dream that we got his 11+ results and they weren’t quite good enough, and he was really disappointed, I was very relieved when I realised it was a dream!

Sorry haven't been doing a lot of hand holding as, thankfully, have been busy and not thinking about it all very much. Yes you are right ShalomJackie - my girls can go to a great comp in Herts or a great grammar in Bucks (very fortunate to live exactly on the border). I offered to take the girls to see a local all-girls independent school that they both have friends at. they both refused to go and said that if they didn't pass the grammar they wanted to go the comp, which is good. Still can't shake the fear of what happens is one gets in and the other doesn't and how the one that doesn't will feel but hey ho. All the best to the rest of you, hope your DC all get answers that will make them happy - less than 2 weeks to go for us.

Another one here. Gloucestershire for us. I haven't been thinking about it too much to be honest, hopefully my daughter's not either... Good luck to everyone, not long to wait now.

totallyliterally · 03/10/2018 20:21

6 days to wait here. He doesn't seem bothered at all... comes into my head once a day and just really want to know the result so we can then know school options.

WhatsGoingOnEh · 03/10/2018 20:29

It's cool that you all know when you'll get the results. The school we've applied to just says "mid October".

Stoufer · 03/10/2018 20:47

We get the results tomorrow (Bexley).... it seems to have come round so quickly. Fortunately my DC2 has completely forgotten that the results are out tomorrow so is quite relaxed, but I am a gibbering wreck underneath! Good luck to all waiting for results... can't wait for the uncertainty to be over....!

WhatsGoingOnEh · 03/10/2018 21:56

Good luck, @Stoufer! I'll have everything crossed for you tomorrow!

brisklady · 03/10/2018 22:33

Good luck Stoufer!

ShebaFelix · 03/10/2018 22:36

Yep a week and a bit to go... My DS is very aware - doesn’t help that we’re looking at schools so it sort of brings it to the forefront each time. The local school is not good, others are not in catchment or far away so it’s really not an easy situation. But my main worry is my DS has set his heart on the grammar and I’m not sure how he’ll react if he doesn’t pass.

And everyone said it was easy - apart from him, who said the maths was hard!

Good luck for tomorrow Stoufer - you’re the first so let us know!

Stoufer · 03/10/2018 22:36

Thanks, WhatsGoingOnEh! I will keep all my bits crossed for you for mid-October ;)

Now time for some frenzied displacement housework, I think... probably followed by a night of strange DC2-in-peril dreams like last night...!!!

Stoufer · 03/10/2018 22:46

Thanks brisklady and ShebaFelix! I'll let you know - gulp!

We have potential sibling rivalry issues (slightly similar to the OP)... DC1 did really well in 11+ a few years ago - and I know DC2 will be doubly upset if things don't go as planned tomorrow... just hoping that he will be emotionally intact at the end of all this process (cue guilty-parent-anxiety about instigating the process in the first place....)!

WhatsGoingOnEh · 03/10/2018 23:33

cue guilty-parent-anxiety about instigating the process in the first place...

UGH, I know EXACTLY what you mean and it's almost the hardest part of the process! DS2 cried before the exam and didn't want to go in. I was so unsure what to do, but said it was a lovely opportunity and that I thought he should have a go. Then I spent the next 3 hours wandering around town, expecting to get a call from the school saying he was inconsolable and needed to be picked up.

As it turned out, he BOUNDED out of the exam at the end, having loved every minute. 🙄🙂 Maternal guilt is the WORST.

Mamaof2cuties · 04/10/2018 05:51

Good luck Stoufer and everyone else.

We got ours earlier in the week, unfortunately didn't make the top 300 for SS Henrietta Barnett (that was expected) neither did she make the top 650 for SS Latymer (that was unexpected!).

We both cried, her dad didn't (lol) but we moved on from it almost immediately. Our local schools are good which helps.

WhatsGoingOnEh · 04/10/2018 09:12

@Mamaof2cuties Sorry to hear you didn't get the result you were expecting. But I'm really glad your local schools are good, so it's not as important.

You gave it a go! That's the most important thing.

Stoufer · 04/10/2018 10:30

Mamaof2cuties Sorry to hear your news - but really glad to hear you have some good options locally. Good luck with the school applications!

Stoufer · 04/10/2018 13:49

After an absolutely agonising wait this morning, we found out that DC2 has been deemed selective, so we are very pleased (he will be able to go to DC1's school).

I wish all of you waiting for results in the coming weeks the best of luck x

WhatsGoingOnEh · 04/10/2018 16:13

@Stoufer 😃 AMAZING news!! That's brilliant - especially as your DC1 was already in. Yay! Thrilled for you all. Well done to you, and your clever kids. 😀

kitty1013 · 04/10/2018 18:02

Can I join this thread. Am awaiting results of Kent test next Thursday aghhhhh!!

Mamaof2cuties · 04/10/2018 19:46

Well done to your DC2 and the whole family @Stoufer, great news!

Thank you and @Whatsgoingoneh. Hope there will be more good news x

ShebaFelix · 04/10/2018 20:07

Congratulations Stoufer - must be a great feeling - thanks for letting us know!
