I’ve just just asked DD what the sandwich box and bottle are for in the fridge. It turns out she’s made her first packed lunch ready for school. She doesn’t start till next Tuesday HmmSmile

It's hard to see that vanish Aornis. His Yr6 teacher was awful so the transition to secondary was always likely to be better. DS1 doesn't tolerate 1:1 well at all so it doesn't work for him.

Finding the right balance of support is difficult, but I think most of all there needs to be a base understanding of the child, not a preconceived idea of what they should be able to do.

DS2 is still full of the lurgy.

AornisHades · 13/10/2018 12:51

cakes no we haven't got anything like a buddy system in place. The TA experience has been very poor for dd so far. Like Frayed's ds I'm not sure she'd tolerate 1:1.

cakesandtea · 13/10/2018 13:07

In my DS's experience, the personality of the TAs recruited by the school specifically for DS was everything. Maybe that is what made it work in academic MS. But that was with EHCP.

AornisHades · 13/10/2018 13:22

I agree cakes. She's never gelled with this TA at all.

How is DS2 Frayed? Hope he's getting better and managed to rest this weekend.

DS wouldn't let me know which lessons he wanted to do this week so I had to take a guess from last weeks though he is a creature of habit. Think today he just didn't do computing because the computer teacher is the worst teacher according to DD and DS he's strict

He had to do drama as they had an assement though told me he'ld designed a 5 part scene with a group of other boys but they stopped it as scene 3 and his lines were in scenes 4 and 5 but they didn't have time. Still he got through 4 lessons by sounds of things and only 4 days until half term. No news from SEND as to whether his Ed Psych referral is being discussed tomorrow or in December, hope its tomorrow but deadline was missed.

AornisHades · 16/10/2018 07:54

Dd out yesterday which was planned and she's not going in today. Expecting to be in full on dispute with school very shortly. I'm not prepared to sacrifice her mental health for this.

Witchend · 16/10/2018 13:03

Ds is off today with an ear infection. He's genuinely unwell today so that's fine, but from past experience it's hard to get him back in once he's been off, so I'm not looking forward to trying.

Penguinsetpandas · 16/10/2018 13:04

Hope school help you more soon Aornis, if you say its anxiety or school refusal they have it as unauthorised and don't seem to like that. So hopefully will give them a push to help.

AornisHades · 16/10/2018 14:14

Poor lad witches
Yes it is anxiety and I have said so for the absence purposes Penguins. It's already on her diagnosis so they know she has it. DH has joined the fray and apparently things are happening in school.

Penguinsetpandas · 16/10/2018 15:07

Hope he's feeling better soon Witches, at least its only three more days until half term.

Glad to hear things are happening Aornis

I've not had any news from school for a few days, hope that's a good sign.

AornisHades · 16/10/2018 16:15

Turns out only thing that is happening is them writing a mail full of inaccuracies and restating their position. So we are at stalemate.

Lougle · 16/10/2018 17:00

DD2 seems to be ok. The dog is helping.

Penguinsetpandas · 16/10/2018 17:19

That sounds frustrating Aornis I had quite a battle before ours starting helping.

Glad your DD is OK Lougle, a school dog must be great.

DS said his day was meh but went to 4 out of 5 lessons just missing geography so that's not bad as long as he was OK in them. DD said PE they had a supply teacher who could hardly speak English, one girl got angry and ran into a busy road and supply teacher said just to leave her there. Hmm DD said she and her friend ignored that and went to report it and they got an SLT member but when they got back other kids were cross with them for reporting it. DD says girl is suicidal though not sure but surely needs investigating and not left.

Frogletmamma · 16/10/2018 17:25

3 more days till half term . OMG we have another week. Can I cope! Can the washing machine cope! How many more wobblies! Seems too much.

Penguinsetpandas · 16/10/2018 17:29

Though after half term we have 7.5 weeks of school until Christmas - that is going to be fun. It's just whether you want pain now or later Grin

FrayedHem · 16/10/2018 18:22

Sorry the school is still being difficult Aornis. Have you had any joy with the LA about the EHC needs assessment?

Glad DS has been coping o.k. penguins but the handling of the pupil in DD's PE sounds very concerning.

DS2 has been back at school this week, I wrote a note excusing PE as he's still not right. Blood test form should be ready to be picked up tomorrow. I will see how he goes, if he's off sick any more this week I'll take him, if not I'll leave until half-term. The clinic will only see children between 9am-3pm

SassitudeandSparkle · 16/10/2018 18:31

We only have one more day before half-term, yay!

It seems to be the week for school discos, judging by my FB friends all around the UK. DD has already been ill so I'm hoping that a nice break if really going to help with that.

AornisHades · 16/10/2018 21:34

Frayed yes, they are going to assess now :) so that's a bright spot.

Struggling to get them to understand what will and won't work with dd seems to be impossible. They keep on about resources but it takes up far more of their time dealing with her when she's distressed than it would to do what her primary did.

redsummershoes · 16/10/2018 22:24

last week before half term. yay. one week plus a couple of inset days.
cross country competition tomorrow, hopefully not too wet. they had the selection runs today, dc is shattered.

FrayedHem · 17/10/2018 09:58

I'm glad the LA have agreed to assess Aornis. It's so frustrating when a school becomes obstructive when it would take less effort to actually support the child. I'm sure sometimes it's more to do with egos than budgets!

cheminotte · 17/10/2018 21:41

That’s good news Aornis .
Another week until half term here, and we already have 2 big project type homework’s set. I’m sure there’s more to come.

Penguinsetpandas · 17/10/2018 22:52

Glad they are assessing Aornis

DS said today was OK which seems to be one grade higher than meh which yesterday was. Think he did 3/5 lessons today in lessons and 2 in support room and I am told school is meh. 😂

Friday is a 7 mile sponsored walk. Hardly any parents have sponsored it and they keep reading out which parents have and how much. DS is happy I sponsored but dreading them reading out my silly message, he's giggling at it though.

redsummershoes · 17/10/2018 22:55

7 miles! that's a long way.
good luck to your ds penguin

we will have some achey muscles tomorrow. dc finished a 3k run today without much training. they did a couple of 1k runs for selection yesterday.

hope all issues around your dc's extra needs will be solved soon and that they can be happy at school.

AornisHades · 17/10/2018 23:55

Did you get the form Frayed? I agree this is an ego thing. Daft twunts.
The gradings sound familiar Penguins! OK is pretty good I think.

I was a PE avoider too so 7 mile sponsored walks and 3 mile runs make me shudder!
