I’ve just just asked DD what the sandwich box and bottle are for in the fridge. It turns out she’s made her first packed lunch ready for school. She doesn’t start till next Tuesday HmmSmile

...and last school trousers with holes in the knee this year. (3rd pair so far)...
hopefully the remaining pairs last until easter.

PenguinPandas · 21/12/2018 18:40

Glad school is now out Red 🎉

Thanks Dobbins Elmo and Cookie Monster cookie cutter arrived today from US, DS was dancing. £21.34 😱 due to postage but for once he didn't tell me I was robbed, said any amount is worth it for Elmo and Elmo needs Cookie Monster.

DS report is very average, disappointing after his SATS, but have discovered its partly as any test he doesn't do he's entered at zero so in French did 3 tests, all excelling, missed other two so got developing overall.

Hope everyone had great Christmas and New Year. Back today. 😭

Witchend · 03/01/2019 17:45

Happy New Year all!

Ds was back today. He built up to it for the previous 48 hours by telling me how ill he felt (between appearing fine). It was a struggle this morning to get him in, but I knew there would be no chance of getting him in tomorrow if he'd missed today and Monday would be just as hard.

He came out having had a good day, although he's triumphantly taken his temperature since getting home and has shown me he has a "temperature". 37.1degrees. Grin

He's now running round in the garden with a friend, no coat, no shoes and shrieking at the top of his voice, so not really showing signs of being ill.

However he does usually spend roughly 20-30% of this term ill with temperature and sickness, so I'm glad to get him in even if it's only a couple of extra days.

PenguinPandas · 03/01/2019 19:54

Two coat refusers here too Grin. School initially where raising it for DS but then decided it made him run off a lot less outside so thought he was better with no coat.

DS also gets ill a lot pre school though actually gets ill, think its nerves. Was half expecting school refusal today but no off at 7.45am and we only live 5 mins away. 20-30% that a lot of sickness Witchend, has a doctor checked that - DS often has a few issues and we think its lactose intolerance. Allergies / food reactions are quite common with ASD.

DH said he got a phone call about DD at 4.30pm and his heart sank but was just to say they have finally found a space in top set science. Think she said she got top of year in maths and science in tests. French are still insisting she needs to stay in middle set all year as no-one is allowed to move despite the fact she's graded as excelling and has a French Dad and lots of kids in top set are graded below her. DS said his day was meh, DD was asleep by 5pm, DS now slightly grumpy.

Might need to start new thread as this one is at 980 and they get shut at 1,000 but may wait for others to return.

Is allergies/intolerance common with ASD ?
I've never heard that before. My son is waiting to be assessed for autism but has been diagnosed with multiple serious allergies

PenguinPandas · 03/01/2019 21:48

I think that's what research has found though am not an expert on this:

www.webmd.com/brain/autism/news/20180608/allergies-more-common-in-kids-with-autism#1

This gives some stats. Restricted diet is very common and refusal to eat at times too.

Witchend · 03/01/2019 23:16

Penguin yes, seen the doctor frequently. He had a really bad year in year 4 where he ended up half time on the (not very many) days he actually managed in. Since then he's been sent for tests with paediatrician each winter round about February time as he's generally unwell through the winter.
Only thing they've come up with is dust mite allergy, which I think is not the cause.
It tends to only be end of the winter term, and most of this one he's ill. So his attendance is usually around 85% in the end.

Thing is though it's difficult to tell how bad he is. He gets panicky at the thought of being sick at school (won't go to the medical room unless sent, as opposed to dd2 who seems to live there) so as soon as he thinks he might be sick, he wants to have the day off. Once he's had a day off, he really doesn't want to go in the next day... that can last a very long time.

I think it's a mixture of anxiety, generally tendency to pick up any virus going, and not really liking school so any excuse to stay off is good.
It tends to be mild fever (around 37.7-38) headache, stomach ache and if his temperature comes up fast then he will vomit. He also usually has an ear infection or two which often starts it off. Obviously the temperature can't be faked (yes I do insist he takes it in front of me and not after having a hot drink!!) but I can't really tell with the other two how bad it is.
His hearing over the winter also will go down to (good year) around 30% with glue ear, can be as low as 10%.

But also when he's not so well, he's more inclined to lose concentration, and be then told off for misbehaving, and then he wants to go in less. It's a bit of a vicious cycle.

DobbinsVeil · 04/01/2019 18:17

Happy New Year all!
DS2 was back yesterday, managed a whole 2 hours(!). Didn't go in today. We've all been ill over Christmas and it's quite lingering. Got his paediatrics appt on 17th so not long to go now.

PenguinPandas · 04/01/2019 22:08

Hope you all get better soon Dobbins and sorry they haven't found a solution Witchend.

DS birthday party this weekend, having two friends from old school over for "cocktails", cake, cinema then sleepover. Got water rower at Christmas and he's always on it. 😂

DobbinsVeil · 05/01/2019 12:44

Hope the party goes well penguins.

I'm expecting a similar outcome from the paediatrician for DS2 that you've had witchend. He's quite obviously not 100% well and seems to get everything going, but I am not sure there's anything to diagnose, and not sure that CFS is what's going on. Had him at the GP over Christmas, throat and glands in neck still inflamed, though we all had a nasty fever/cough bug so to be expected. He's complaining a lot of stomach pains as well now. I'm hoping the paediatrician might take a look at his hypermobile joints.

PenguinPandas · 05/01/2019 21:26

Thanks Dobbins He had a lovely little party with his two best friends and now having a sleepover. One of his friends said to me your family are exactly like Paddington Bear's family, you are exactly how I imagined. Grin

DobbinsVeil · 07/01/2019 16:05

Argh. DS2 had another PE teacher questioning him and telling him he should be back doing PE. Ds2 said the teacher was right in his face! I am so pissed off with this now.
