Congrats to Ggirl27’s ds! What sort of job is is? I was chatting to the bar manager at a local hotel, and they had lots of jobs but motivating my ds to apply is proving difficult. He’s very shy :/ . My dd is back from First week of NCS today and has had a ball. She really challenged herself and is so pleased when she has succeeded. It’s nice to see her confident and happy :D

androbbob · 25/07/2018 22:13

Evening, finally caught up on the thread - a lot slower moving for now!

DD is part the way through her first week with NCS - currently doing outward bound stuff - limited texts - last one made me chuckle - 'done water sports and got absolutely soaked' = Yes DD that would happen!

She mentioned getting a job when she comes back - believe it when I see it, but better than no mention of it earlier in the year.

Its been warm here, but not like down south - probably 23 degrees today - is uncomfortable of an evening. Tomorrow supposed to be the hottest day here - 26 degrees tomorrow - and we have planned a trip to Manchester by train ….. that will be fun!

Stickerrocks · 25/07/2018 23:22

Thethird If it's the NF Show tomorrow, tut loudly at anyone who has taken their dog with them in this heat. It's all the local FB pages seem to be full if at the moment.

Sost hooray for your positivity. Go girl!

AlexanderHamilton · 25/07/2018 23:37

We are back home tonight after our few days in Devon. Had a nightmare journey down last Thursday as the m5 was closed but a good journey back.

It felt a bit short but we were able to meet up with dh’s best friend & wife. The caravan was HOT.

Hospital appointment tomorrow.

Ggirl27 · 26/07/2018 00:08

Thanks for all the well wishes for my DS. Jinglebells99 he will be working for a well known motorbike company in their showroom and garage. He will be starting off in the garage cleaning up the bikes but will move him to the showroom if he shows 'initiative' and they've said they may want him to do an extra day in the week if he has time off from college. It's perfect for him as he is hoping to start a BTech in Engineering if he gets the right GCSE results and has always been obsessed with cars/bikes since he was a tiny boy. The manager/owner told him today that he decided to give him the job when he came in with his CV as he made such a good impression. This will do wonders for his confidence so I have everything crossed it works out Smile.

TheThirdOfHerName · 26/07/2018 05:39

Stickerrocks yes it's that one.
I've got up at 5.30 so we can go there early to try to avoid the worst of the heat.

Plenty of advice about not taking dogs in case they overheat, but who is speaking up for overweight peri-menopausal women?

mmzz · 26/07/2018 05:48

You are brave doing that today! It's supposed to be about 31c today, isn't it?

OP posts:
TheThirdOfHerName · 26/07/2018 06:09

Yep. 🌡️

Jinglebells99 · 26/07/2018 08:09

Ggirl27 that sounds like the perfect job for him, hope it goes well 😊. If only my ds could find a job he was passionate about. Locally, it seems to be hotel work or supermarkets :/ .

LooseAtTheSeams · 26/07/2018 08:21

Third good luck in the heat! I am hiding in the shade of my front room next to a fan and plan to do that most of the day!
Sost good luck today Thanks and thank you for your good wishes about exam marking. I was relieved to get to the end!

mmzz · 26/07/2018 08:58

Loose only answer this if it won't get you into any trouble and you want to...
In your opinion is the quality of answers much the same as last year overall, notably better or notably weaker?

As you may guess I am thinking that it's the second year so if the quality of answers has improved, that will shift the grade boundaries higher.

OP posts:
LooseAtTheSeams · 26/07/2018 09:24

mmzz hmm...I need to be very careful as I think nationally a few scripts are still being marked! Also, remember I only see a tiny sample and the standard varies a lot anyway - by school, by set etc.

mmzz · 26/07/2018 09:31

I didn't think you would want to / could even if you did want to but I thought. I'd ask just in case. I guess we'll all find out in a few weeks anyway. Thanks for replying though.

TBH the whole exam thing seems a bit surreal now. I'm more focused on how I'm going to get to the end of today. Last night I threw all my toys out of the pram because someone had closed my bedroom windows mid-afternoon and the room was suffocatingly hot when I went up to bed. I may have to apologise for having over reacted slightly, but I'm really not looking forward to today.

Went to DDs NCS showcase and to be honest I am not surprised she felt intimidated by some members of the group. A group of 6 boys and 2 girls trooped in and flung themselves into the seats behind us in the lecture theatre all the while having a shouted conversation about someone in another group - couldn't follow much of it but at least every third word was a curse and to be honest the other two could have been too. They put their feet on the seats so I had a foot either side of my head - I turned around and gave 'the look' which has worked on hundreds of kids and teens over the years - he didn't even flinch never mind move them. There was so sign of any leaders and when they did materialise twenty minutes after we arrived they were very young and in the case of the leader who opened the talk I couldn't follow much of that either. Sounded like mumble mumble experience you get me mumble mumble you get me mumble. I think the leaders had a hard job - one of them asked a boy to do something and he replied - no I ain't FFS and she didn't argue and to be honest I am not sure I would have either.
We had a break for refreshments at one point and I tried to engage with the group behind but they mainly ignored me - they were not interested, no eye contact. zero manners and just complained the last week was 'like fucking school'. They had an ominous presence.
However, I am glad I encouraged her to go because she actually enjoyed the week (interesting stories... got awarded some TRUE points and her team won a challenge) and most importantly she had made some friends a bit different from her usual types and has gone off to do week 3 happily via a train and three tubes.

BlueBelle123 · 26/07/2018 09:45

Hi all, back from holiday to find it is sooo much hotter hear, I'm really not coping with this heat seem to have a constant headache and as for sleeping forget it!! So sympathy to all fellow suffers of the heat!

Glad NCS on the whole seems to be a success my DN is in her final week and loving it, seems in the first week they came down very heavy on behaviour sent a good few home and this seems to have made the others tow the line.

DS has started to think about results as he keeps telling me how many more weeks and days it is, its a shame he has work experience on results day, hopefully he'll be happy so it won't be a problem if he was like DD and in floods of tears it might be a little awkward!

Hope AH's DH's appointment goes well today and Sost gets the all clear Flowers

Loose seems weird knowing that most of DS's exams have probably all been markedShock..........anyway hope everyone else is enjoying the summer and l will definitely be in need of the virtual handhold up to Results Day!!

BlueBelle123 · 26/07/2018 09:48

Juggling sorry posted before I saw your post.....

LooseAtTheSeams · 26/07/2018 09:51

mmzz I would have been pretty upset by the closed windows!
It will be interesting to see what happens. It seems so long since they all sat the exams and still a long time to the results!

LooseAtTheSeams · 26/07/2018 09:55

Sorry - also meant to wish Alexander's DH all the best for today.

Teenmum60 · 26/07/2018 09:56

Ggirl27...well done to your DS its great that he has shown resilience when looking and it sounds like its paid off with him getting a job that sounds perfect and like you say will boost his confidence.

Alexander (DH) and Sost - Good luck with health appointments..

Loose - well done - It so good that teachers do use their spare time to do marking (I know you get paid but I dont think the pay is great).

Juggling - how intimidating - I do think NCS have to rethink their approach and offer the scheme to people who really want to go ...rather than pressurize sell to groups of friends at schools.

DD packing today because she is away with DF on Saturday then its a bit hectic because she's back on 5th and starts NCS on 6th....she's really enjoying the summer - making new friends from different experiences.

BlueBelle123 · 26/07/2018 10:36

DS is off to his first house party tonight (not sure whether the parents will be around) and is going to be taking fruit shoots I think his love of fitness is proving to be stronger than his desire to be one of the crowd......I wonder how long it will last!

mmzz · 26/07/2018 11:05

Good luck to your DH today, Alexander. I hope the news is what he is hoping for.

Hi all

I am frantically clearing out my fridges and sorting out a pile of washing for holiday. I have 2 hand held fans trying to keep cool. I am putting it off...

mmzz that would have upset me too. Dd broke my fan in my bedroom (accident) & ds knocked his fan & broke his so I gave him mine as he needs sleep for digging my Mum's garden. Now have anothr fan and had a good night's sleep.

Bluebelle I hope your ds enjoys the party & good on him for the Fruitshoots. There's plenty of time to get horribly drunk! Ds only had one can of lager at his prom after party.

It was our wedding anniversay on Wednesday dh & I completely forgot! Too much on our minds including holiday etc etc.

LooseAtTheSeams · 26/07/2018 11:34

Teen thanks! It’s poorly paid for the amount of time it takes but very useful experience for teaching!

Stickerrocks · 26/07/2018 11:41

Loose I'm sure that any maŕking I do ends up paying me around £5 per hour!

TheThird I've set up a sprinkler system in your general direction!

mmzz · 26/07/2018 11:45

It was DH who shut the window. It is his room too. But i conveniently forgot that when I was getting angry.
