My dd said she was a bit fed up of people last night. I think it’s hard for all of them to be with other people constantly. My dd likes spending time alone and reading. Bit after all she’s having a great time :)
I recognised someone on Mumsnet that I know in real life last week! It’s not anyone from this thread, but I remembered a discussion a while ago where people were talking about being recognised.

LooseAtTheSeams · 24/07/2018 09:48

Third so glad he had a good time! Mine is back tomorrow night. Not one text Home so presume he's enjoying himself!
I dared to venture into his room yesterday and was pleasantly surprised by the absence of food debris. However there's an awful lot of stuff that needs sorting. Nice little project for him to avoid when he comes back!

Stickerrocks · 24/07/2018 12:13

Yes to NCS. She is currently waiting to jump off a cliff, but fretting because she has run out of data on her phone. Bet she manages to drop her phone off the cliff now!

Jinglebells99 · 24/07/2018 14:06

Oh wow, jumping of a cliff?! 😱 Actually, I think my son has done that with the scouts. My dd is currently on a hike, aiming for 16 miles as they want to win! And it sounds like it’s very hilly too. At least my dd is by the coast as it’s really hot where I am! I had the similar text about data from the coach on the way down, and is only topped it up the previous week :/. Hope your dd enjoys her cliff jump! And her phone survives!

Stickerrocks · 24/07/2018 16:28

Phone intact. DD's nerves aren't. She got as far as the harness and my big, brave girl wussed out. I wouldn't have got that far. As she said to me earlier, actual cliffs just aren't my thing!

Jinglebells99 · 24/07/2018 17:14

Aw bless her. They aren’t my thing either so I don’t think I would have done that either even if I was 16. My son did loads of stuff like that, coasterring, caving, sea kayaking. He loved it but it’s better for my nerves if I don’t know what he’s up to.
My dd is still hiking! She has climbed 87 floors, over 17000 steps, but was only at 7 miles an hour ago and they were hoping for 16. I’ll be glad when she’s safely back at the Centre.

mmzz · 24/07/2018 21:06

What is coasterring? I've never heard of it.

All your reports of DCs on NCS adventures sound great, DS is still in Holland on a school cycling trip, and DD is packing to go to Morocco on Saturday, mountain climbing with explorer scouts.
As for all the Oxbridge talk, I don't know whether DS's college gets any into Oxbridge, I doubt he'll apply as he wants to go into computer engineering.

Jinglebells99 · 24/07/2018 21:56

Sorry, it’s Coasteering, my phone changed the spelling. I think it’s like scrambling or climbing along the coastline, and can include jumping in the sea.

KingscoteStaff · 24/07/2018 22:28

DS leaves for a rugby tour of Japan in 2 weeks, DD leaves for a holiday in Greece in 10 days.

Which should I be most worried about???!!!

Teenmum60 · 24/07/2018 22:33

Kingscote - I take its extremely hot in both places (I heard 40 degrees in Japan today)...I am sure they will both have a fab time and hopefully DD staying no where near Athens!

Oddsocks15 · 25/07/2018 07:08

DD mid way through week 2 of NCS. Week 1 was “fun”... Hmm

In other news, the army visited DS (14) school with an assault course on the school field, DS has come home and announced he wants to join up!! Shock

kingscote - I am sure your DC will have a fab time, just hope your DD is not near Athens.

mmzz · 25/07/2018 07:29

Kingscote tell them about (the importance of) drinking water and keeping to the shade when walking about.

Remarkable choices though - the two places on the planet that are suffering the greatest unexpected heat extremes. At least it's not a time tour of South Africa by taxi!

Just had to share my DS has managed to get himself a Saturday job. He has been looking since he finished his GCSEs. He's been all over the shop leaving his CV and someone has asked him in for interview and given him a job this morning. It took a lot for him to go out and talk to people - that's completely outside of his comfort zone - he was really anxious about the interview as well. I'm just so proud of him - and whatever those results are in a few weeks time it will prove to him that there is more to life than just exam results Smile.

mmzz · 25/07/2018 14:00

That's really good, Ggirl27. I'm pleased for both of you. That sort of willingness to put himself out of his comfort zone and do what he needs to will take him far.

OP posts:
brainmelt · 25/07/2018 14:57

Good of him, Ggirl27!
We're back home for a few days working then off again for DS music course up North. It's great to hear of all the NCS adventures! DS has been going to the proms with his mates which is really nice. At 6 pounds a ticket, it's the best thing to do in London!
I was drooling over the picture of Norway, my dream trip. When I was twelve I wrote a short novel about a girl from Norway falling in love with a boy from New York half-way, in Paris... Weird, I know.

GCSEs feel so far now. Like a bad dream. I even forget we'll get the results on the 23rd.

LooseAtTheSeams · 25/07/2018 15:04

I definitely admire his initiative Ggirl! He'll go far!

Stickerrocks · 25/07/2018 19:13

Well done Ggirl's D'S.

Coasteering and surfing today. Someone has been sent home for smoking weed. DD is having her eyes opened to what "normal" 16yo girls stay up all night gossiping about, but seems to prefer getting a good night's sleep.

TheThirdOfHerName · 25/07/2018 19:14

That's great Ggirl27 well done him!

TheThirdOfHerName · 25/07/2018 19:16

I'm one of those people who don't like being in direct sunlight and can't cope with anything over 25 degrees.

So I'm not sure why I agreed to go to a County Show near the South coast of England tomorrow on what might be the hottest day of a very hot summer.

farangatang · 25/07/2018 19:56

Hello everyone! I'm drastically behind, having been settling in to the UK for the past week and had a wonderful fortnight in Australia before that.
DD1 in her final week of NCS and has had a variable experience, but seems much more confident than I could have dreamed and might have even made a friend or two! DD2 about to go on camp after urgent shopping trips for all the clothes she 'needs'!
Hoping Alexander's DH and Sost are on the road to a full recovery and we're all able to enjoy the summer sunshine (such a relief not to be cold in Summer!) and forget that results for those exam things come out in a few weeks' time...
Keep safe in the heat and with any travelling everyone Smile

mmzz · 25/07/2018 20:01

I'm struggling with this heat. I've got sooo much work to do but I just want to find somewhere that has good air conditioning and move in until this heatwave is over!
I even dreamed about it last night!

OP posts:
Teenmum60 · 25/07/2018 20:14

I'm not handling heat well either having had a 4 hour car journey back from Havant today (M25 was at standstill as usual)...oddly enough the company I was visiting installed me in their boardroom that had amazing air conditioning which was blowing all my paperwork off the table.

Sostenueto · 25/07/2018 21:10

Hi all! I have the honour of residing in the hottest part of the country and even with 2 fans going almost 24/7 am finding it really hard to keep cool. Everywhere so brown! Trees are dropping leaves too.. Great to hear everyone well and dcs busy with ncs and other activities which will keep their minds off results day for a bit.
Am recovering g gradually, one day at a time touch but am very positive. Having full ct tomorrow and 2 more blood tests and hopefully then the all clear! Haven't been able to sit in garden ( not allowed to) Sad .
Am busy arranging a meal out on results night with dgds friends parents. Its a surprise for the girls. No matter what the results we shall still celebrate!
Pup/dog is fed up with weather as its too hot to go out in. My friend is out with her now as the sun has cooled.
Best wishes to all hope alexandersdh recovering quickly Flowers and hope loose survived the marking of all them English GCSEs! Grin

JufusMum · 25/07/2018 21:39

Ggirl27 well done to your DS. DD also has an interview but it booked out next week dog sitting for my boss.
Sost your night out sounds lovely.

DD has reached a new low today. She spent the entire day dressed just in yesterday's knickers baking ( making a mess of my kitchen). When does school start again?!
