English was good and about surfing apparently.....

History in 14 minutes......

Newly released Haribo sweets tonight for a treat. 💕💕
.....and Jurassic World tonight.

Hi @calzone, I set this thread up early because Stickerrocks obviously has other stuff on her mind today and I'm about to go out. I think everyone is still working through the end of the last thread at the moment.
(So you are not being ignored!)

Good luck for your ds's work experience Reservoir

mmzz a fresh start is just what your ds needs. Good luck to him and I agree we can start to talk about less stressful things...Prom suit ordered for my ds hiring from Moss Bros.

calzone History in 14 minutes?! Do you know what time it finishes? Ds has 25% extra time and I need to pick him up.

mmzz · 08/06/2018 12:59

GettinTrimmer it depends on when the school starts. I read once that there is something like 20 minutes leeway on the recommended starting times, so some students could start 40 minutes earlier than others

Our history starts at 1.30. There is a window which each board gives within which the exam must start

JugglingMummyof2 · 08/06/2018 13:03

DD starts at 1.30 - OCR is just 60 minutes

AlexanderHamilton · 08/06/2018 13:04

Not heard from Dd yet. Met her two English teachers in the staff room this morning. (Took dh in to drop off some files) They said she seemed quite pleased with how everything has gone so far.

LooseAtTheSeams · 08/06/2018 13:05

Reservoir that work experience sounds very exciting!
Thanks mmzz for new thread! Did last year's gcse thread move so fast or are we all very chatty?!
DS1 seems very happy with English so I'm not asking him any questions about it at all!
All my students turned up for exam even though the invigilator claimed she couldn't see one of them. He's very tall so goodness knows how she missed him!
I am a bit concerned about a summer of marking exam papers on surfing...

Wonderwine · 08/06/2018 13:07

It seems like DS's English (Eduqas GCSE) went well, which is a relief as his first paper was a bit dodgy as he was distracted by noise outside the exam room during break time and between lessons.

It all seemed to be things he could answer and discuss today - volcanoes, trips to London etc. We spent last night plotting out various different types of persuasive writing (speech, article, letter, review etc) as he said it was weeks since he'd actually done any of this (Hmm) and when he came home he said it had been so useful as a similar style letter and article came up - phew!
Given that this paper is 60% of the final mark I'm feeling relieved!

Only 4 more exams next week - and they're all short ones.

The end is in sight.

BlueBelle123 · 08/06/2018 13:09

Loose its got to be better than marking one on marking Grin

Thanks for the new thread mmzz

JufusMum · 08/06/2018 13:11

DD very unhappy with AQA English. Q5 on corruption in sport. She knows nothing about sport she doesnt watch any! Said it was more aimed at boys.

calzone · 08/06/2018 13:14

No idea how long it is.

Sorry.

Thanks for the new thread.

Work experience for the summer Reservoir??

Wonderwine · 08/06/2018 13:15

Jufus - it's tricky, isn't it? I'm sure the exam boards are meant to stick to neutral/ mainstream topics, but some definitely advantage some students over others. DS had one on football a few years back and did badly in it as he hates football!
I'm not sure he would have fared very well with corruption in sport, but volcanoes was a godsend for him as he's visited three in the last two years and is really interested in them.

AlexanderHamilton · 08/06/2018 13:17

OMG. You couldn’t make this up. Guess what the subject of Edexel English Lang was?

calzone · 08/06/2018 13:18

Tell us Alexander 🙈

farangatang · 08/06/2018 13:19

Alexander Mumsnet threads?

AlexanderHamilton · 08/06/2018 13:20

An obituary of a blues singer who died after suffering two strokes!

Wonderwine · 08/06/2018 13:21

Oh no! Shock

Teenmum60 · 08/06/2018 13:23

@Reservoir that work experience sounds superb...I'm toying with getting DD to apply for one of the pharmaceutical companies who offer work experience for Yr12 in Feb Ht which I think is ideal timing (and just 30 minutes away)..Just cant work out whether to ask a favour of a friend who works there - she messaged me this week and asked if I fancied meeting up - our DD's are friends - I doubt whether she has anything to do with WE but she's Senior Exc....I may just casually bring it into the conversation...Wink.

I'm hoping DD can beat off her low confidence with History this afternoon...paper1 went better than any other History exam (which is positive)...as we walked out the door she did state that even her highest result in any History paper has not resulted in a pass...Gin...The school have such a high attainment rate at History too (87%A*/A) - I dont think they had anyone who failed last year Sad.

Teenmum60 · 08/06/2018 13:25

@Alexander - Oh no...that's awful...hope your DD is OK.

calzone · 08/06/2018 13:26

Good grief......that’s awful.

Did she say it was awful?

mmzz · 08/06/2018 13:27

AH That's the worst luck. Did your DD manage to hold it together or was it too much?

Maybe you should tell the school, as it may be worth a note to the exam board asking for some consideration on today's paper.
