Alexander that's awful!!!

Good luck to your DD Teenmum - lack of confidence can be so debilitating. I'm sure she'll do much better than she fears.

AlexanderHamilton · 08/06/2018 13:28

I’d just gone to fetch water. She left a message on my answerphone then phoned her dad. She said it was all ok & she saw the black humour in the situation.

AlexanderHamilton · 08/06/2018 13:29

Dh works at her school so they are all aware of the situation.

AlexanderHamilton · 08/06/2018 13:31

Teen - Dd said all her friends were hugely panicked by the thought of history today. The history kids had a bad year 10 where they learnt very little but had a fun time chatting with the teacher in lessons about world affairs but not covering the syllabus. Then fantastic new teacher joined in September & they had to play fetch up.

BlueBelle123 · 08/06/2018 13:32

Blimey that's a bit close to the mark it looks like your DD didn't let it phase her hopefully she turned it to her advantage.....still an awful thing to happen

JufusMum · 08/06/2018 13:34

Hamilton bless her what's the chances. Hope she is ok x

AlexanderHamilton · 08/06/2018 13:36

Looks like it was B.B. King & he was 89.

LooseAtTheSeams · 08/06/2018 13:38

Alexander oh no to the text but glad your dd is ok and hope history goes well for her.
In case anyone is worried about AQA English Q.5, you aren't expected to know about sport and as long as what you write makes sense it will be ok. My boss's DS was pretty annoyed at the whole paper though - there was a lot of, um, emotive language until my boss told him he was on speakerphone!

AlexanderHamilton · 08/06/2018 13:39

She’s not doing history but lots of her friends are.

Teenmum60 · 08/06/2018 13:41

@Alexander My DD coasted a great deal in Year 10 despite having an amazing History teacher...she did change her attitude in Yr11 and I am hoping that paper1 covered all the Yr10 topics she said exam went well...she seemed to think that this paper should be OK but she wasnt doing great with dates this morning (there was a time warp)...but a century doesn't make much difference in medicine. Cherryburn · 08/06/2018 13:47

Alexander Shock. Glad she coped so well!

mmzz · 08/06/2018 13:50

Teenmum - where does your dd go to school. With talk of pharma I am wondering if it is same as ds and where I invigilate. Pm if you'd rather

ReservoirDogs · 08/06/2018 13:53

His work experience us just 2 weeks. They do it after gcses rather than in year like many local schools round here.

brainmelt · 08/06/2018 13:56

alexander no you couldn't make.it up! Glad your DD was above it.

Teenmum60 · 08/06/2018 13:59

I'm guessing your DS is at P given Addenbrookes connection...if so DD is at a girls school west of P by about 20 miles (there is also a boys boarding school within the same Trust) ...Its selective rather than super selective (but results are very good considering its approach to schooling is Holistic) We did look at Hills has a possibility of sixth form given that we live in a village on Cambs/Beds border.

JugglingFromHereToThere · 08/06/2018 14:05

Not sure DS was able to stay fully balanced with the corruption in sport question. I think something negative can easily lead them too much
down a dark allley as it were. I wish he'd said it should be for everyone and it should be fun as the way he does sport definitely is in that spirit with his quirky
uni-cycling and skate-boarding enthusiasms. I hoped the affinity between skateboarding and surfing might help a little but he says it doesn't make a difference
what it was about!
Generally difficult to get much out of him in terms of post-match analysis!

Stickerrocks · 08/06/2018 14:07

Alexander I can't help but laugh, in the same way as I got nervous giggles when I asked someone in the playground a few years ago if they had had a good Christmas and they said their cat had gone out from a stretch on Christmas Day & got knocked down by their neighbour's car.

AlexanderHamilton · 08/06/2018 14:07

Twitter was wrong. It was Little Milton Campbell.

Teenmum60 · 08/06/2018 14:13

Some of these exam questions do seem to have quite odd connotations taking into account the DC's are 15/16.

Teenmum60 · 08/06/2018 14:19

JugglingFromHereToThere _ I dont think it matters as long as they can back up what they are saying. I remember my O level Eng Lang question was about politics and i really let rip ...because I remembered the dark days sat in a cold farmhouse by candlelight...I did pass - so I can only guess that the marker was of the same political belief....otherwise it could have been a U!

ReservoirDogs · 08/06/2018 14:22

teen Yes DS is at P. And has decided to stay on although we looked at Hills too.

TerfTerfTerf · 08/06/2018 14:24

Just caught up! Spent the whole day on housework, which took longer than expected because I had to unblock the kitchen drain 🤮🤮 Haven't heard anything from DS in between English and history but I expect he'll have been amused by the sports questions - he likes sport in theory just isn't very good at it and loathes playing in a team.

Glad Alexander's DD could laugh about the stroke obituary. Black Humour is a useful life lesson, possibly more so than a gcse Wink

Got a gaggle of girlfriends coming over for drinks and gossip tonight - 80% of us are mid-gcse and a couple are teachers so the conversation might be lively! DH is taking DS1 out for dinner and a browse in the shops before he spends the rest of the weekend procrastinating revising sciences, geography and Nazis for next week. Joy!

Cblue · 08/06/2018 14:28

@GettinTrimmer - depends on what DS wants to do with punchbag (anything other than punch it?)

DD is a martial arts fiends so she needs to kick as well as punch. We have 4' hanging bag - Pro Power. Pretty cheap for what is and has lasted 3 years of serious punching/kicking and isn't showing major signs of wear.

We have bracket above the door inside the spare room. DD stands inside the spare room and beats it (so it swings out into the landing). Set up works brilliantly for us

TerfTerfTerf · 08/06/2018 14:32

TeenMum are you planning on Cambridge for sixth form? DS hoping for Hills, most of his mates split between Long/Hills/Comberton. Tried to persuade him into IB at Parkside, that's his 'insurance' place now.
