@GettinTrimmer I would have a look at Decathlon...they always seem to have a good selection of sports gear and also can give advice too.

We have purchased Karate stuff from them and they were helpful..

Teenmum60 · 08/06/2018 14:40

@Terfterfterf

We looked at Hills but I was totally overwhelmed by its size and not the easiest of journeys for DD (traffic is awful and public transport not great although bus runs from stop about 5 mins away into Cambridge).

I'm almost certain she will stay on where she is ...the Sixth form will be under 200 girls and several of her current teachers will teach her A levels ...current school offer IB but DD not interested.

Hills looks to be a very good college ...so good luck to your DS

In case anyone else is doing OCR History - it was good and the 24 mark question was straightforward according to DD.
The week-end - will have to be busy given next week but still feels like a bit of a respite.

AlwaysHiding · 08/06/2018 14:54

Hello everyone, I’ve kept away for a few threads because things have gone from bad to worse here. DD is on her last legs with 5 more exams to go. Currently sitting History exam after a mad dash by me to school with medication and associated pain relief items after she deteriorated during this morning’s English exam.

Exams officer will be applying for special consideration due to ill health and staff are providing smaller rooms, pastoral support and encouragement.

We honestly couldn’t care less about the results in August. We just want her health to improve.

Best wishes to all those in need 💐

sandybayley · 08/06/2018 15:00

@AlwaysHiding - glad to have you back, sorry to hear about your DD. It puts things into perspective when we hear about the DC who are really struggling.

DS1 has emerged from his pit (he is having a day off) and has eaten an entire pack of potato waffles (x 12!) and gone to play cricket. I don't blame him - it is a gorgeous day on London. I am slightly 🤢 at the waffles though.

FernetBranca · 08/06/2018 15:01

We are finished! (I’m TawnyPippit usually but am on tablet and can’t work out how to change name back which I changed for a Jilly Cooper appreciation thread)

DS had English language this morning and as of 11.30am (he get’s extra time) all GCSEs are done and dusted. I’m travelling at the moment so have only had text feedback. Exam was, apparently, “fine”. Hmm

Do we win a prize for first finishers? I think seeing as everyone did Eng Lang this morning the only people who could finish earlier would be someone not having extra time

Hadenoughtoday · 08/06/2018 15:02

alwayshiding so sorry to hear your daughters unwell - it's been a challenging 4 years here of NO full time education. Whilst the eldest DD has had meltdown after meltdown during her 3 years of Uni.

AlwaysHiding · 08/06/2018 15:09

Thank you @Sandy and @Hadenough

I’m a potato waffle fan in moderation Sandy, but 12 in one go! Quite a feat.

@Fernet - Here’s 🥇 for finishing exams first. We have another week to go unfortunately.

Hadenough - I really do sympathise with you and your DC. We have no idea what the future holds for DD. It’s day to day for the time being.

So relieved it’s Friday!

Andcountto10 · 08/06/2018 15:19

Hello All, I just wanted to say thank you for keeping me going over the past few weeks. I haven’t posted before, but have found this thread incredibly helpful and supportive. I also have a DD with dyslexia and extra time. She is really exhausted and it has been a long, hard slog. I’ve no idea what the results will be, but also just want a happy, healthy child at the end of it. Thank you again for being such a wonderful moral support. One week to go... Flowers

ReservoirDogs · 08/06/2018 15:24

TerfTerfTerf do you live in Cambridge too?

So Edexcel igcse history today was Surgery for Medicine section and Galipole for WW1. DS a very happy bunny after the hard Maths yesterday

KittiesInsane · 08/06/2018 15:29

I worried a little about utterly non-sporty DD in a paper mainly abut sport, but she seems happy. She said she did find the surfing extract strangely saddening the thought of a young Victorian woman watching from the sidelines, enthralled by it but unable even to conceive of joining in, whereas the young chap in the other extract couldn't wait to get his kit off she may have used more refined language than that--.

For the corruption in sport, I gather she went for dramatic generalities -- 'like a six-year-old trampolinist, doping in sports is reaching new and alarming heights...'

That's absolutely the longest feedback I've had yet on any exam! She's gone home for a nap. I might need to do the same.

KittiesInsane · 08/06/2018 15:30

She didn't, thank heavens, go anywhere near the question of boys in girls' sports that we'd been discussing just beforehand. Wise child.

blimppy · 08/06/2018 15:38

I've been lurking for ages, but thought I'd finally join in! Any others done AQA History today? DD says it was hard. Thinks she did alright, but said there was near hysterical giggling afterwards by many who sat it....

BlueBelle123 · 08/06/2018 15:41

AlwaysHiding Flowers shes doing so well to still be sitting her GCSEs under what are clearly extremely challenging circumstances, I really hope her health improves.

blimppy · 08/06/2018 15:42

Oops - just realised she did EdExcel History!

Also - I'm so impressed at how well so many of you are dealing with such difficult circumstances. GCSEs are stressful enough.

BlueBelle123 · 08/06/2018 15:43

Reservoirdogs curiosity has got the better of me what was your previous name?

AlwaysHiding · 08/06/2018 15:44

BlueBelle123 · 08/06/2018 15:44

LooseAtTheSeams · 08/06/2018 15:50

Alwayshiding and hadenough Flowers Always - hope school get special consideration for dd for all her subjects. It’s so tough.Andcountto10 all dcs with dyslexia who are getting through exams are amazing. I hope your dd bounces back over the weekend.
Fernet wow! To finishing.
Kitties nice work on the simile!

ReservoirDogs · 08/06/2018 15:55

BlueBelle123 pm'd you

Teenmum60 · 08/06/2018 15:55

@AlwaysHiding - sorry to hear about your DD. Hope she managed to get through this afternoon she is a *.

Massive grin from DD when she walked out of IGCSE History, she was also over the moon with Surgery and what ever the WW1 topic was...I think its the biggest smile after an exam I have seen yet ...so hopefully she has passed ...anything more will be icing on the cake after the last 2 years of E's and D's.

BlueBelle123 · 08/06/2018 15:58

Reservoir Wink

Teenmum60 · 08/06/2018 16:05

Well done to everyone whose DC's have concluded their exams...and well done to the DC's who are also soldiering on with dyslexia etc...your Dc's are [stars].

Large glass of vino tonight having finished History exams...History was the mountain on the horizon when Dd started (after French). DD has the afternoon and evening off and a lie in tomorrow then hopefully she can go back to science revision...

Cherryburn · 08/06/2018 16:10

AlwaysHiding I was just thinking about you earlier and wondering how your DD was getting on. Really sorry to hear things aren't good. She's doing so well to sit them at all. As is your DD hadenough.

Andcount there are quite a few of us on here with dyslexic DC so we understand the extra challenges it presents.

Glad the reports on today's exams seem to be positive in the main. And thank god it's Friday!

TerfTerfTerf · 08/06/2018 16:16

Reservoir South Cambs (Herts border)

DS didn't much enjoy the AQA history today - Elizabethans was ok (focus on religion, Armada) but American West was hard - a lot of focus on "Indians who all have similar odd names and fight battles with similar odd names" He would have preferred more stuff on exploration, Gold Rush and homesteading. Thankfully paper 3 next week (Nazis) is his favourite topic so something to look forward to.

Eng Lang he enjoyed despite the sport: wrote a pros/cons argument about sport corruption and financing and quoted some random German football thing that's had €€€ poured in but has benefited many. I guess he is actually learning useful stuff all those hours he spends on Netflix/YouTube...Grin

I am so humbled by you parents with DCs struggling with health problems. I have some similar friends in RL and it really makes me think twice about moaning about our trivial issues. I hope you all have lots of support for you as well as for your children ThanksGin
