@peggy - well done to your DD...Star

Cherryburn · 08/06/2018 18:38

Yay Peggy

beenrumbled · 08/06/2018 18:45

Great news peggy

DS liked the English language sports question. It was right up his street.

KickBishopBrennanUpTheArse · 08/06/2018 18:47

Wow! A day out at work and I come back to page 5 of a new thread Shock

Well done Peggy's dd and Wine Envy to those who have finished. Two weeks to go here Confused

Dd is very happy that English is over and thinks she did well. She has never got above a 4 on a language paper but has put in hours of work in the last month to try to scrape the 5 she needs to do geography A level.

But now I've read the thread I'm panicking a bit. She told me the question was on "Is sport a good thing" but no mention of corruption. I suspect she hasn't read the question properly but I daren't probe in case she realises. It's probably best to forget about it and wait and see. Hopefully she'll have done enough on the other questions.

mmzz · 08/06/2018 18:50

DS wrote about corruption too.
The statement they had to address was:-
"All sport should be fun, fair and open to everyone. However, sport now is corrupt and all about winning."

DD2 did AQA English today and although she doesn't do sport as such, she was pleased that she was able to bring her experience of the dance world and dance competitions into the corruption in sport bit Grin

Last push of 5 exams next week then that's itGrin She says she doesn't know what she'll do with herself and will kind of miss the exams - crazy girl grin]

Oratory1 · 08/06/2018 19:11

This is late but sending huge best wishes to Always hiding and hadenough. And to you too Alexander - I really admire the calm pragmatic way you and your DH and DD seem to be coping. Sometimes when you all pull together to cope with something and get through it can really pull a family together - and I think teens feel good when they can help in that too and contribute to the 'getting through'. I felt for you especially when we were all thinking the caravan plan was such a great idea. Don't be surprised if there is some reaction after exams and stress is over but hope you get some rest this weekend.

And well done Peggy. DS also very happy with History and managed to finish (although didn't get time to go back and check so just hope the examiner can decipher some interesting phonetic spelling).

He is exhausted but so happy tonight that History went well but more so because no more essays or typing (only maths and sciences left !!!!!)

PS that English question looks a tough one to me

That’s great Peggy.

I think the AQA sport one sounded tough. Ds knows loads about corruption in football but Dd wouldn’t have had a clue. At best she might have waffled about performance enhancing drugs a bit.

AlexanderHamilton · 08/06/2018 19:38

Dd wrote a review about a musical she hadn’t (yet) seen!

Sostenueto · 08/06/2018 19:43

Found you all! Thanks mmzz for new thread.
Talking about aqa English......being as dgd not at all competitive she argued about sport being too much on winning instead of plain enjoyment also added about healthy reasons and the latest scandal about overweight DC and burden on NHS later in life ( briefly)and corruption with performance drugs ( we saw in swimming world DC as young as 9 being given whey protein and inhalers for imaginary asthma being used ( DC who had never had asthma in their life!) Swimming costumes so tight they literally cut the DC all for the sake of going that bit faster maybe 100th of a second etc. So these she used as examples. Also that fees are paid to do sport but facilities don't reflect the cost of say season tickets, or yearly fees etc. Don't know if any of that was right but there you go. Too late deed done for good or bad.Smile

KickBishopBrennanUpTheArse · 08/06/2018 19:51

That all sounds really good sost. Well I gave in and asked dd again and she said she wrote about the benefits of sport for physical and mental health and included an anecdote about a man who had made 2 suicide attempts and how tennis helped his recovery. And she did know the full question but just focused on the first half.

I feel a bit better now. Just really hope she's done enough to get the 5.

beenrumbled · 08/06/2018 19:54

DS used the Curr option aspect in sport too. He wrote about the Russian doping and the Serp Blatter FIFA scandals as well as 5he footballers high salaries. I think he is just relieved to have thus werk done. 4 more exams next week, then one the week after. On the home run now

beenrumbled · 08/06/2018 19:54

Gah. Corruption!

beenrumbled · 08/06/2018 19:56

Sostenueto that sounds good!

Sostenueto · 08/06/2018 20:02

No email from school about aqa physics as DC fully aware protractor would be needed as waves, angles will be on paper 2.

Sostenueto · 08/06/2018 20:05

Just read back and so sorry to hear of DC suffering but soldiering on with great health issues, worries about df, and dyslexic and special needs DC etc. My heart goes out to all of you who are under such enormous stress and my thoughts and prayers go to each and everyone of youFlowers

BlueBelle123 · 08/06/2018 20:06

Great news Peggy and well done those that have finished!!!!!!!

DS did AQA English which he was happy about especially his newspaper article which he headed Sport is for everyone.............or is it? he seemed most impressed with his dot dot dots, no idea what he actually wroteHmm
History Edexcel on the whole he was pretty happy, but thinks one of his answers may not of answered the question oh well......
Night off tonight then 6 more next week and then its all over Grin

Sostenueto · 08/06/2018 20:07

That's good too king well done to your dd! Like you we just hope it is good enough to make up for bad first paper to get that 5/6

Sostenueto · 08/06/2018 20:15

Well done to peggys dd little Star sorry I didn't respond earlier but this thread so fast it takes ages to read back! Sorry if I missed anyone's posts. Hi all - long time lurker joining the party late, but goijng to be staying late as DS has something every day next week n further maths + statistics the week after. They love maths at his school.
Pretendingtobechilled: he quoted questions from History paper today on Why did Eliz I never marry? and Why was Mary's (queen of Scots??) return to England (from France?) significant? For the medicine topic he answered one that was How did surgery change between (some earlier period, poss Tudor) and the 19th century? Sorry for vagueness. If I ask him to clarify now he'll suspect that I'm posting about him! Blush
Seemed ok with English Lang tho' totally unsporty - phew

Sostenueto · 08/06/2018 20:22

I have a lay in tomorrow! No getting up at 4.00 am! In fact I will wallow in bed each morning till Monday! I will not get up to at least 7! But you know what its like folks. You get up early every day for work and then when you retire or have a holiday what do you do? Wake up same time!

BlueBelle123 · 08/06/2018 20:22

Sostenueto · 08/06/2018 20:25
