RGS Guildford exam 2017

To the Mums whose son sat in RGS Guildford entrance exam in previous year(s) . Please suggest on exam preparation

Loads seem to travel from Haslemere? Makes it much easier if they can commute by train - they seem to have lots of fun.

The other popular venue is Claygate. Woking would be cheaper.

Thank you Sassy56. Going to look at new builds near Woking tomorrow. Not a big fan of new builds, but don't have a choice as time is a big constraint for us 😏.

Sazzy5, Does RGS inform about the result to all the schools ( current school of the candidate) or just prep schools. Anyone having any idea about this?

I think most of the prep heads have more to do with the 11+ exam results as it reflects on the school-I'm not sure state schools take much notice. At least that's how it is in our area. I was told that they find out before us but never tell us. Our head merely told me the process as I hadn't realised hearing nothing was ok. She didn't tell us we were in as such. So we all are in the same boat hoping for good news on Friday.

Hello everyone, we are based in Fleet and we are not planning to move in case our DS gets an offer. We are interested in sharing the pick-up and dropping off the kids to/from the school. Like we can drop them off every morning and may be another parent can pick them up from school. Anyone interested who is based close to Fleet, Farnborough or Camberley?

That's quite a trek from Fleet! I'm not sure you will find many people travelling in from that distance? Good luck anyway.

Can't you go by train from Fleet? Loads take the train and love the social side of it.
Big day tomorrow good luck to all especially the call backs and 13+ crowd. Hopefully our postmen will arrive early.

Fleet does not have any direct train to Guildford (change at Woking ).
The other option is to drop DS at Farnborough North Camp. There is a direct train to Guildford from Farnborough North. However, I was considering doing it only after 6 months or a year later but not to start with. Good luck to everyone as the letters are arriving today!

After an agonising wait our post arrived with an offer for our DS at 13+. The envelope was very small, so a slight panic followed by huge relief on opening it! He also has an offer from another school with very lovely comments and feedback, but RGS Guildford is our first choice, so all in all we are so proud of our DS! Good luck to everyone today xx

Congrats to all so far. My son sat the dreaded 12+ last week and I thought we'd get the letter today but the post has been and nothing. Having been through it once last year, I just want it to be over! Hopefully tomorrow....

yes for us as well (13+). Congrats to everyone, who received "yes" and good luck to those who is still waiting.
We also received two other offers today. So it's going to be difficult decision

Congrats ladies 👍🏽. JJP - hang in there 🤞. RGS is our 1st preference; so we have decided to move closer as we currently live in Basingstoke. Looking to move to Farnborough, so DS can catch the train from North Camp or Farnborough North. Now, it's just finding the right house 🤞. Are any mums here from Farnborough? Would love to know if DS has company during his school run. Good luck everyone.

Riti, my son is not at RGS, but he gets the train to his state school in Guildford from North Camp every day. He is in year 7 and he sits with all the RGS boys who are very friendly. Getting train won't be a problem at all, it's only been cancelled three times September and if you check before you travel, you can always go from Ash instead (and might be better doing that if it's closer in any case). The boys walk up to school, your son will be fine. Congrats on all your offers, my son's best friend is really enjoying his first year there.
