catslife, you won't be for sure, those taking igcses, not always, but often go to schools where attainment tends to be higher.

whatever their results, we've been able to support each other so far and I hope we can keep doing the same.

TheDrsDocMartens · 13/08/2016 14:07

Excellent fantasy

Don't know if IGCSE is different but students aren't getting their actual mark this year which complicates appeals as you don't know where you are within a boundary iyswim.

ShanghaiDiva · 13/08/2016 15:02

DocMartens - Ds's iGCSEs results gave his ums so he can see whether it was high or low within the grade and his head of year had all the component marks so I imagine any apparent anomalies would be easy to spot.

ShanghaiDiva · 13/08/2016 15:03

Well done to your dd Fantasy and Hope!

ExitPursuedByABear · 13/08/2016 15:16

Fortunately we have a busy couple of weeks leading up to results day so I won't have time to get too nervous.

Or to look at OYBBK songs. Grin

Well done to your DD Fantasy . Is she staying at the same school for sixth form?

TheSecondOfHerName · 13/08/2016 16:22

catslife if it helps, DS is hoping for B grades in nearly every subject.

catslife · 13/08/2016 16:30

Thanks folks, we are expecting mostly B grades too.
Some of dds friends in RL are expecting A*s and had a bit of a panic that it may be the same picture on here so thanks for the support.

Icouldbeknitting · 13/08/2016 16:47

DS will be gutted if he doesn't get A* music, that's the one that he really is expecting. Other than that he needs a 7 point average (where A=8) to blag his way onto music tech A/S in addition to his three A levels. He really wants that and had I known this earlier it could have provided the leverage to more revision. The big unknowns are maths and physics as on a bad day he couldn't add his age to his shoe size and get the same figure twice. The exams were not good days.

It will be what it will be.

That reminds me - in the car this morning we (mostly me) were trying to think of a soundtrack to results day. I didn't think of Que sera, sera (whatever will be, will be), we were more with Jaws and Darth Vader motifs of impending doom. I did suggest "Everything is Awesome" from the Lego movie but that was not received well.

ExitPursuedByABear · 13/08/2016 17:00

I can't remember what we are expecting. I think she'd like a smattering of A*s. Could be the odd B in there.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 13/08/2016 17:56

nope not thinking about it!!!

have booked a nice meal for the evening of the day that shall not be thought about. I only hope that it is a celebration than a commiseration.

Got a couple of things going on to distract us.

FantasyAndHope · 13/08/2016 17:59

Yup were staying at same sixth form

OhYouBadBadKitten · 13/08/2016 18:08

the problem with a predictions is the only way is down. Which isn't very nice when for some subjects the a boundary is so high. Doesn't give any room for being human.

I'm nervous for those who need C's and are close to the boundary. it's such an unknown.

TheDrsDocMartens · 13/08/2016 18:59

Dd1 is hoping for A* in maths & French. Both were predicted A then moved up in year 11 so fx.

marmiteloversunite · 13/08/2016 19:55

I'm worried about music. My DD is obsessed with it and they had to move rooms mid exam as the CD player wouldn't work. She is going to be so upset if it affects her mark.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 13/08/2016 20:00

I remember you saying marmite. Hopefully they will be able to take that into account?

marmiteloversunite · 13/08/2016 20:24

Let's hope so!! We shall see. At least she doesn't need a certain mark in it to continue with music A'level in sixth form!

No idea. Friend who is an exam officer mentioned it. I didn't know it happened before that. Didn't when I did GCSEs and people got remarks so I guess they have an idea.
How re marks are done is changing too but it didn't mean much to me.

raspberryrippleicecream · 14/08/2016 17:35

DD was predicted all A which has stressed her no end and has always been unlikely. She is not expecting those results. She is really hoping for a couple of A, and a mix of A and B. I don't think she would be too upset with an A* to C range.

DS1 did really well, but my abiding memory from his results day is a girl I didnt know opening her envelope and being overjoyed she had passed everything. I hope all our DC are as happy as she was!

TheDrsDocMartens · 14/08/2016 17:55

Onthebird unless I've misunderstood ( quite possible) GCSEs won't have them, just the grade. There was something about marks for each paper too & I can't remember how it came together

OhYouBadBadKitten · 14/08/2016 17:58

most GCSEs will still show ums
aqa

TheDrsDocMartens · 14/08/2016 18:00

You get the UMS but not the raw mark.
