The thread that got us all through the exams is now full so here's a new one to get us through the nervous wait for results

Well done to all our brave Y11s and wish every last one of them all the best

Wow! These proms all look incredible! I'm very envious!
Thankyou for the new thread BOOP, and a huge congratulations to everyone - it's all over! We did it! (Well, technically our dcs did, but you know what I mean!)

DD has the lurgy, think it pretty much hit her as soon as she stopped and relaxed.
Hoping that a few days of r and r will have her well again in time for the summer musical (although as she's playing a male part she thinks her current croaky voice would work well!)

Good luck with prom/ prom prep to all who have them this week.

TheSecondOfHerName · 27/06/2016 23:33

Prom was "actually OK" (translation: he was pleasantly surprised and enjoyed it more than expected). He just came home to get changed and has now gone to the after-party, which is thankfully not at my house.

ShanghaiDiva · 28/06/2016 00:26

Wow - these prom locations look fabulous!
Hope everyone has a relaxing summer. Ds has about 4 weeks off as he finishes school next Fridays and he needs to be at his new school on 8th August for registration/induction.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 28/06/2016 17:41

I'm glad he enjoyed it TheSecond :) how did everyone else get on?

chocolateworshipper · 28/06/2016 18:24

DD and her bf had a great time thanks kitten. How are things with you?

situatedknowledge · 28/06/2016 19:29

DDs prom is tonight and she only decided she was definitely going at 5. She spent the day in her room channeling eyore. I hope when she gets there she feels it is worth it. Last minute dash to do her nails, shower and make up. She's feeling very lonely because her closest friends are going in cars with their friends from primary and she only joined in y9 so wasn't invited. She's sad too because most of them are going to different sixth forms. As a natural introvert the thought of having to make new friends all over again is terrifying. My heart is just breaking for her. I just hope she can draw herself up and have fun tonight. Sad

ExitPursuedByBear · 28/06/2016 19:38

DD's prom was fab. She managed to get over her sunburn and scabby chin to look great. After prom party not such a great success as music not loud enough, they were outside and nithered and the druggy crowd were partaking in the garden.

So that's it now. We can relax.

EllenJanethickerknickers · 28/06/2016 20:11

Situated, DS1 went to a new sixth form. If there are lots of newbies it will make it much easier to make friends than trying to break into long established friendships in Y9. DS1 is quite shy but has had a brilliant time at sixth form. Flowers for your DD.

situatedknowledge · 28/06/2016 20:42

Thank you Ellen. I'm sure she'll be fine, we're just having a wobble.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 28/06/2016 20:59

situated, I hope she has a lovely time. I think a lot of people find themselves in 6th form. It's a really good time to reinvent themselves.

I'm glad everyone had a good time, scabs and all Wink

chocolate - thank you for asking :) dd is looking much more like herself and regaining her sense of humour about life. Me? I'm a giant anxious knot, but looking forward to escaping on hols next week. making the most of not having to stick to school hols. It's been very many years!!

EllenJanethickerknickers · 28/06/2016 22:29

Lucky thing, OYBBK. I have two who have finished school this week, but one in Y9 and worse still, I work in a school!

kslatts · 28/06/2016 23:58

My dd has prom tomorrow, she has spent the day today with her friends preparing and buying last minute things.

situatedknowledge · 29/06/2016 07:13

Would you believe it, she had a great time. We picked her up at midnight (having promised to pick her up any time after 9 if she hated it) and she'd even been dancing! Grin

FantasyAndHope · 29/06/2016 07:13

Same here ellen I work in a school
DD is going shopping Saturday for final bits of makeup etc

OhYouBadBadKitten · 29/06/2016 07:22

that's great Situated :) I hope your dds enjoy it tonight Kslatts and catslife.

Sad for those who don't get an early escape.

FantasyAndHope · 29/06/2016 14:58

DD is walking round the house in her heels.. she's being round the block in them had a little stumble but was fine.

ExitPursuedByBear · 29/06/2016 15:16

First proper day of rest for DD today, so she got up at 1.45pm

I didn't bother waking her any earlier as it is pouring down here so she wouldn't be able to ride. (Horse is living out so will be wet through, not that she is a fairweather rider - perish the thought)

WHEN WILL IT STOP RAINING???

ExitPursuedByBear · 29/06/2016 15:16

I'll miss you lot when the results have been and gone.

Can we keep our little group going into sixth form?

Please?

TheSecondOfHerName · 29/06/2016 15:45

I think we might need at least as much support in the first weeks of Y12.

HesMyLobster · 29/06/2016 16:04

I'm loving all the prom stories, so glad they all seem to have enjoyed them, even the reluctant atendees!

Dd's mission this week (apart from resting and relaxing!) is to learn to cook more than just cereal/toast/pasta at a push!
Today she has made chilli and it smells fantastic - I could get used to having an in house chef!

Next week is 6th form induction on Monday then she's coming into my school (primary) to help with the end of year show/hear readers/generally make herself useful for the rest of the week.

The week after she's picked up some extra shifts waitressing, then dd2 and I break up Friday 15th and we're off on holiday on the 16th!
I can believe how fast it's going!

I agree Exit, we need to keep the group going, don't know what I'd do without you all now! Grin

EllenJanethickerknickers · 29/06/2016 19:17

I'm on the Y13 sixth form thread on here as well with DS1 and it's been really useful comparing university visits and offers, negotiating UCAS etc. Start a Y12 thread in September and you'll get lots of posters, I'm sure.

DS2 will be going to college to do a BTEC, pending results, so won't be doing A levels in sixth form. I would guess most MNers DC will be doing A levels, so I may start or join a BTEC thread.

TheSecondOfHerName · 29/06/2016 19:26

After seven weeks of study leave, DS1 has a half-day back at school tomorrow: returning text books, information about sixth form etc. It'll be his last day in school uniform, so I'm going to try to persuade him to pose for a photo.

TheSecondOfHerName · 29/06/2016 19:29

I won't know whether I'll be joining the A-levels thread or the BTEC thread until results day. Predicted GCSE grades: ABBBBBBC. Conditional offer for A-levels: ABBBBB. We shall see...

OhYouBadBadKitten · 29/06/2016 20:06

Absolutely, of course we can Exit!
Weather looks unsettled into the unforseeable :(

TheSecond, you will be welcome here no matter what happens. Big day tomorrow!

Lobster, that all sounds very productive! I did at least get dd to help with some housework. Have blitzed the house and it looks and smells quite a bit better now.

I keep peeking in to the Year 12 and 13 threads. I have a couple of friends whose dc are in Year 12 and they have been visiting various unis. That will be us in a years time Going to encourage dd to order some prospectuses for a bit of inspiration over the summer.

Mysillydog · 29/06/2016 20:09

Dd is halfway through her work experience. She's been in Y5 which is well resourced with a teacher and 2 TA's. Today she was put in Y1 and the TA was sick so it was just her and the teacher. She was shattered when she returned home. The teacher had said she wanted dd to make a display with small groups of children. She was given a topic - a bible story and told where the paper, paint and glue was and no further direction. Luckily dd is artistic but her immediate thought was wtf am I supposed to do. However, the teacher was very pleased with what she came up with. Dd says working with infants is much harder than juniors - she is leaning towards teaching as a career.

Next week it's sixth form induction for 3 days and 2 more days work experience, then holiday time. She hasn't had a day off apart from weekends since her last exam. She is another one who isn't sure if she will be doing A'Levels or BTEC, it will depend on her results.
