Dds results are being emailed. She absolutely hates the idea of going in to get them

dd has to go in at 10 as well, then has to charge across rather a long way to her college to register. It's going to be stressful timing wise, never mind anything else.

Have any sixth forms given out a 'what they need' guide? dd is itching to buy stationary and folders and paper and stuff, but has no idea what to buy.

Ds enrols the week after the results come out, in my dreams there's a reading list to pick up but I doubt it. He will be taking with him a letter informing them of his absence for a day of the second week of term, they can like it or lump it because there isn't much else we could do because of the changeover from school to college. When he needed the same day off in 2015 I had it authorised in January but I could hardly do that this year.

situatedknowledge · 16/08/2016 09:15

I'm just wondering if I could persuade DD to wear a Go Pro camera so that we could see her results even if she 'forgets' to text us them...

TeenAndTween · 16/08/2016 10:25

Last year I had to brief DD on what to say on the phone.

The risk was she would say 'I'm really pleased' or 'I'm really upset' and leave us with a totally false impression on how she had done. (She has the tendency to focus on one tiny trivial detail and not see the 'bigger picture'.)

So she had to say 'I passed everything' or 'I failed English language but passed everything else' before giving us more details. (Luckily it was the former).

Hope all your DCs get the results they want/need/deserve.

Icouldbeknitting · 16/08/2016 10:56

I will be asking for an emailed photo of the results letter, or I would if there was any phone coverage in school. As it is I'll just have to cool my heels in the car park and look at his face when he comes out.

marmiteloversunite · 16/08/2016 11:16

Situated I am loving the go pro idea!! Can just see a large hall of teenagers with go pros fixed to their heads. Bit like tinky winky getting his results. (My phone is too young for the teletubbies, it is sending auto correct crazy!)

littledrummergirl · 16/08/2016 12:07

Ds1 has to confirm/reassess/decline a level places depending on results and he tends to see the worst outcome and overdramatise. He's asked me to be there. I think he will be ok though. He's really nervous now though.

needastrongone · 16/08/2016 15:17

Not long now! I keep thinking about it, DS is his usual horizontal self. Smile

How we all doing?

OhYouBadBadKitten · 16/08/2016 17:50

Have we lost OnTheBirdBranch? Sad

we have a lot going on here so I'm partially able to pretend it's not happening still.

HesMyLobster · 16/08/2016 19:13

Wow! Excellent igcse results so far - congratulations to all!
I'm still a little bit 'head in sand' about it all, although just back from a few days away and it suddenly feels a lot closer!
DD has been finishing off homework today. They were given a holiday task to complete for each A-Level subject. She has muttered a lot about how angry she'll be about the time wasted on it if she ends up not getting in!

HesMyLobster · 16/08/2016 19:17

I tried to send a message to Bird but it wouldn't let me as "user is currently unable to receive PMs"
What does that mean?
I Hope everything is ok.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 16/08/2016 20:59

That would be rubbish if she didn't get in after doing holiday work Lobster.

With regards to Bird, I think it means she might have left? I hope she's ok.

EllenJanethickerknickers · 16/08/2016 22:12

Oo, I had lost this thread. I didn't realise iGCSE results were already out. Well done all of you. Grin But it does make everything seem very real.

I've got DS1's A2 results on Thursday (gulp) which have been taking priority as he'll hopefully be off to university. DS2's results' day still seems a long way off in comparison.

DS2 and I are hoping for 5 A* to C including English and maths to get him on to his college course. He's very relaxed about it all, keeps 'joking' about getting all Us or spelling FUDGE, etc. I'm less relaxed as there's really no plan B.

He has ASD and an EHCP, (used to be a statement of SEN) which will continue in college. If he doesn't get the required grades I think he'll have to retake English and do some sort of level 2 course in software instead of his level 3 BTEC, which will be a waste of time as he's done GCSE computing and GCSE ICT already. Though I guess if he hasn't passed them...

HesMyLobster · 17/08/2016 20:09

Good luck to all with dcs waiting for A level results tomorrow.
Keep us posted.
I wonder how we'll all be feeling this time next week . . Shock

EllenJanethickerknickers · 17/08/2016 20:27

Thank you Lobster it's going to be a long night. I'm actually feeling much more nervous than for GCSEs with DS1 because going to university seems a bigger deal than sixth form, but in reality, you need good GCSEs as well.

I have butterflies and DS1 is very quiet. I shall feel very similar next week for DS2, even though his challenges are very different. Getting his C for English language is just as important for DS2 as getting an A in FM is for DS1.

TheSecondOfHerName · 17/08/2016 20:57

Good luck for those expecting results tomorrow.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 17/08/2016 21:00

Good luck for tomorrow.

ExitPursuedByABear · 17/08/2016 21:47

Our gardener is coming at 8am. His dd gets her results tomorrow. Shall I offer coffee or vodka?

TheSecondOfHerName · 17/08/2016 22:11

The course DS wants to do requires a DBS for work placements. The college sent him details of six drop-in sessions over the summer where he could bring his ID so they can start the process. He managed to make it to the sixth and last session, but at least he did it. The enrolment is the day after the results come out.
