I am disappointed that there has not been a thread this year but so am stopping 'lurking'. Not want to give any specifics as maybe there is an extra exam day although this doesnt seem to be published anywhere but did anyone on Saturday ask how many Year 7 possible boys there were, as it is hard to tell who is for which year? It is pointless to ask 1 suppose as the boys are so differnet and with multiple choice method it's impossibel for boys to to know for certian anyway but the 'verdict' was Maths and English OK but the VR hard. I think January will seem a very long month.

I agree that it would be better for the stress levels to deliver all the news at the same time and if possible not too long after the exams. I do seem to remember Dr Cox saying that unsuccessful candidates (not invited to interview) would be notified by the end of January. That might be the batch of letters posted last Thursday. Good luck to everybody! To put things into perspective, this is just the beginning of long series of exams over the next 10 years.

Cfm2016 · 25/01/2016 15:07

I live in hope that it was rejections not invited to interviews that were posted last week! It definitely fits with previous years. If we get a no after all this I'm going to be even more devastated!

pipnzip · 25/01/2016 19:23

Yep, I remember that too, Cfm2016 and surreyuk - Dr Cox saying that initial rejections will be sent out by end Jan (except those invited back for interviews), so surely some at least will know by the end of this week.

Not heard of any news received at my DC's school as yet (but maybe we're in a later batch! Confused As if January hadn't felt long enough already...

Good luck to everyone. At least by Valentine's Day we'll all know one way or the other and actually be able to put our minds to decision-making rather than speculation!

Cfm2016 · 25/01/2016 19:33

Surely they wouldn't be so cruel as to send out straight rejections in batches this year when they've always been sent at once before! But yes, at least by the end of this week we can maybe start to feel hopeful.....

Dadrah · 25/01/2016 19:46

Exactly the same thought had crossed my mind cfm. Certainly in the last 2 years all the no letters came out at the same time and therefore if you didn't get one you are guaranteed an offer unless you had been second interviewed (for 11+) or an offer or 12+ deferment (for 13+). There is however no reason why they wouldn't change it and none of this part of the process is set in stone or indeed even put in writing by the school. It is simply how they chose to do it historically. All a bit disappointing as I had allowed myself to be a little hopeful earlier today!

hopeful2016985 · 25/01/2016 19:56

I think everyone can still be hopeful as there are no grounds to say that the no letters are being sent out in batches. That is just speculation. The one thing we do know is that the no letters for those interviewed won't be out until 12th Feb, at the same time as the yes letters. I personally am very hopeful for anyone who has applied for 11+ entry and has not yet received a letter.

Princesitalinda · 25/01/2016 20:01

I am with you hopeful2016985... Heli's sources were very good (working at RGS and attending RGS and seeing them)... plus Ruby also said that a friend confirmed her that some pupils that sat the exam did indeed receive 'no' letters. Personally I think that if any 'no' letter has been sent, they all have been sent at once (except interviews) so I think there is reason to be a bit hopeful:)

Cfm2016 · 25/01/2016 20:44

Well I'll be hopeful with you. Just trying to keep it in check in case we're still in for a massive disappointment. I think we can definitely feel safe by the end of the week though!!

cmjmama · 25/01/2016 20:50

There have definitely been some No's because my son has had friends telling him they had a No but it is a very small number, no way it is all of the No's, I heard that they were coming out in batches this year all the way up to the 11th. Anyone who has had an interview and any simple yes's will not hear anything until the 12th apparently. There will be no certainty until those letters come out in Feb

Cfm2016 · 25/01/2016 21:12

Surely what you're saying is the same as previous years cmjmama? They send a batch of nos as last week then the rest of interview nos and yeses in Feb. We now seem to have heard of several sources of nos on this thread - including friends of your son - and there's got to be plenty more we wouldn't know about. So I'm stil hopeful!

hopeful2016985 · 25/01/2016 21:13

Who told you that they are coming out in batches all the way up until the 11th, cmjmama? It has never happened that way in previous years. The definite no's have always come out by the end end of January, followed by the remaining no's and the yes letters mid-February.

hopeful2016985 · 25/01/2016 21:15

The other thing is that those sitting for 13+ entry may get a come back and try again at 12+ letter. Those would also come out mid-Feb.

Cfm2016 · 25/01/2016 21:20

And I'm sure we were told all straight nos ( not interviews) were out by end of Jan so they can't come out in batches up to the 12th?

Pb2016 · 25/01/2016 21:23

In the admission supplement it said that all those to whom they will not be making an offer will be notified by the end of January. No mention of separate date for interview no's, but maybe something was said about that at the parents info. So I think if we don't get a letter by the end of this week, we should be safe. Am confident there will be no unexpected no's in February. So let's be optimistic!

Cfm2016 · 25/01/2016 21:37

I think the batches were straight nos - already gone - then interview nos maybe by the end of Jan?? As done in previous years.....

cmjmama · 25/01/2016 22:17

I thought that there were interviews up to the 31st Jan so those people can not get a No before the end of Jan, it might be on a previous thread but I saw somewhere that those that went to an interview were told that they would not hear until the yes's go out 11th Feb. I think all the outright No's (without interview) come out before the end of Jan which is probably next weekend seeing as they seem to send things out on Thursday or Friday. The friend who said they had had a no said that they would do the 13+ so maybe they weren't No's but 'almosts' please come back at 13. Basically more torture and uncertainty

Ruby4 · 25/01/2016 22:28

They were definitely 11 plus 'no's' that were sent and were definite 'no's', not come back at 13. That is according to my friend, a teacher at the school who teaches the boys who received them! x

Dadrah · 25/01/2016 22:45

I have not heard of any 13+ nos. in previous years 11+ and 13+ came out together but I am now wondering if 11+ came out last weekend and 13+ will come out next. Anyone want to put me out of my misery and tell me that they know of a 13+ no? Please?!

maman2016 · 26/01/2016 06:08

The last interview is on 29th January. It says so on the letter we were handed on the morning of the exam before entering the hall. So if the nos were posted on the Friday for these boys they would receive them on Saturday 30th January.

maman2016 · 26/01/2016 06:10

No boy at my son's school has admitted receiving a no letter, however, which leads me to think they will be posted (for us) this week.

hopeful2016985 · 26/01/2016 06:51

If we were to receive a no letter I was not planning on telling my son until we had received a yes from another school. Parents may not have told their sons yet even if they have received a letter. Also, no one is really talking to anyone else at our school at the moment so I wouldn't know if someone had received one. Positive news is much easier to talk about than negative.

Cfm2016 · 26/01/2016 07:37

I agree with hopeful! I was going to do the same. And I've not heard of any news from our school either but then I've not asked. And the four boys who sat from there are all pretty much the same level so if one hot in they may well all do. I remain hopeful!!

cmjmama · 26/01/2016 08:54

They are watching, lots of people watch this thread and do not comment, RGS, Tutors, future parents. It is a horrible three weeks but I am sure it is all forgotten once the letters arrive.

surreymum2016 · 26/01/2016 09:30

I have found this thread so helpful; thanks everyone for sharing information. Unfortunately, this morning we received a 'no' letter. I have heard that the process continues until half term. Hang in there everyone, I am sure whichever school your son ends up at, will be the right one for him. I can't bring myself to tell DS that he hasn't been accepted, particularly as he will be sitting another exam this weekend. It will have to wait until he's completed all of his exams! Good luck

maman2016 · 26/01/2016 09:35

Surreymum, Thank you for sharing this. I am really sorry to hear this. Best of luck, you seem so sensible about it - a wonderful example of grace for us all. I will be expecting one later today when the post arrives.
