Thanks both. We better have a look at it then. When we went to look around the accommodation looked much better than it was in my day - thankfully!

Dd and I were just talking about reading lists for before they start. I bought one massive Eric Hobsbawm book before I started my history degree. I was working in London for the summer, so I diligently took it on the train with me every day but I don't think I got any further than about page 30!

circular · 04/06/2015 19:18

Don't believe DD!s Insurance choice ask them to choose accommodation till after results. And also one that guarantees for all first years.

Trying to get a letter from the GP as College want to submit something to get her extra consideration ?

AtiaoftheJulii · 05/06/2015 16:36

We did that for dd1 - had tonsilitis during her GCSEs (and during her worst day of 3 exams). The surgery were pretty useless - first of all made me wait about 24 hours for a letter saying she was too ill to sit the exam, and then I pretty much dictated to the secretary what I wanted and sat and waited while it was typed up and signed. And they charged me god knows what for it, twenty quid maybe? But it was done and sent off - if you look at the JCQ guidelines, it might make 2% difference. It seemed worth doing (and probably even more so for A levels) purely on the grounds of it being one less thing to regret NOT doing come August!

MrsBartlet · 05/06/2015 17:28

I think it is well worth doing Amazing. We have already submitted one for dd to the school (at their request) as she has missed a lot of school again this year. We paid £26 to the doctors for it and like Atia has said, I pretty much had to tell the doctor what I wanted it to say!

good luck for Tuesday Atia.

Amazing - even if it's only 2% if that is the 2% that counts it's worth it.
mumslife - a friend of mine has just had to do the same for her ds who is doing finals - his gf was ill and unfortunately died in the immediate run up to the exams.

Good luck everyone - it sounds like by next week we'll all be in the thick of it.

AmazingDisgrace · 05/06/2015 22:49

Thanks all. We have the letter. £15 for four lines saying she has a very nasty cough which is making her unable to sleep. I hope it's enough!

The inhaler is helping when she has a bad coughing fit. She has lung inflammation and it's meant to reduce it too I think. The codeine phosphate which was meant to make her drowsy and suppress the cough did absolutely nothing sadly so she had another bad night Sad

Saying that, I'm really proud of her and the way she's dealing with all of this on top of her A Levels. She had her extra subject AS today and it looks like she wrote up a storm today as she needed two extra booklets!

Night off from revision tonight for both her and Gcse sitting DS. She's gone to her boyfriend's and I hope she can break the coughing and insomnia cycle soon.

Thanks all for your kind comments, I feel like you guys are practically family in a way, we're all looking out for each other and that's a lovely feeling

Horsemad · 06/06/2015 06:29

DD started his exams yesterday, with 2 maths. Seems to think they went OK - no telling with him! Confused

welshpixie · 06/06/2015 07:40

DD's graduation today, she has been chosen to give the student speech which means she is in the front row so we should have a good view of her. Now as long as she can walk in those shoes we will be fineGrin.
It is going to be really hot here today about 33 degrees C (in Germany) but there are storms threatening for when we get out.

Horsemad · 06/06/2015 08:42

Exciting welshpixie, Smile hope all goes well & you have a lovely day.

AtiaoftheJulii · 06/06/2015 08:45

Oh congratulations to your daughter welshpixie ! Don't cry too much Wink Hope it's a lovely day.

I feel like you guys are practically family in a way, we're all looking out for each other and that's a lovely feeling

Smile I love having somewhere to talk through the whole process - I think that if I couldn't unload and unwind here I'd be far more preoccupied with it all in real life!

Horsemad · 06/06/2015 09:17

Me too Atia, I'm definitely more chilled out now with having this thread to offload on.

Decorhate · 06/06/2015 09:22

Yes I think I am worrying less about A2s than AS's. It's been a year of hurdles, dd is very lucky with her offers, but apart from murmuring words of encouragement there's not much more I can do now to help her.

First paper is on Monday. She is going out tonight for a friend's birthday. Which I was ok about until talking to a friend yesterday whose daughter had her drink spiked recently...

hellsbells99 · 06/06/2015 09:23

Have lovely day Welshpixie

Littleham · 06/06/2015 10:02

Have a lovely time WelshPixie. Great to have finished. You must be so relieved. Smile

I hope that your dd shakes off her bug over the weekend Amazing.

It is a lovely support thread. Good luck for your children. Not looking forward to Monday. Does anyone else have a really sick hollow feeling in their stomach?

It all starts here for us on Monday as well with History. Dd is very much looking forward to getting that out the way!

Hope you have had a good day welshpixie - sounds lovely.

JWIM · 06/06/2015 17:18

Offered DD lunch out tomorrow as a break but she decided she would rather stay and revise.

All starts for DD too on Monday - History, Human Biology and Critical Thinking so she has to spend time in between supervised as they are set at the same time.

Lots of luck to those DC getting started this week.

AtiaoftheJulii · 06/06/2015 17:47

Dd1 has done nothing today. I can't talk to her or I will go apeshit.
