Thank you webwiz, I always knew he'd need a miracle to get an offer from them. He's already said he'll apply to do his Masters there! Shock

webwiz · 27/11/2014 23:07

Its only one choice out of five so worth a shot, I hope your DS isn't too disappointed.

AtiaoftheJulii · 27/11/2014 23:22

Well done to him for the Southampton and Nottingham offers Smile Shame about Imperial though Sad Hope your dh has made good on your wager!

polkadottyme · 28/11/2014 09:59

Horsemad- at least he had a go. And as he says can go and do a MA there, something he can strive for. Hes got some good achievable offers. He sounds like he got his head screwed on. My nephew applied to imperial few years back was rejected by them, he also had few interviews at Cambridge was put in some winter pool??? Don't sound too good in a literal sense?? But apparently gave him a 2nd chance but was rejected in the end. He went to Warwick, graduated jumped straight into a job working for a software company earning good money. However it was his connection with friends at the uni that got him the job. So in the end his rejections were a good thing. He now drives a flashy merc and doing his thing. Now when he looks back at the bigger picture the rejections weren't a bad thing after all.

Littleham · 28/11/2014 10:06

Well done to your ds Horsemad for the Southampton & Nottingham offers.

More bottles of Wine for you too! It is scary when they get ambitious, but as polkadot says it is a very good trait which will help a lot in the future.

Well done to your DS Horsemad! FWIW I went to part of Imperial back in the day and looking at the main Uni I think more fun ( for less money, London was scarily expensive even then) together with great tuition may be had at Nottingham, Southampton! That combined with an Imperial post-grad sounds like the perfect combination :)

Waitingaround · 28/11/2014 13:36

well done on your Ds's offers horsemad!! Southampton is great, although I would say that as I went there Smile.
The offers that Imperial are giving out are v v scary- A A A A and step for computer science for one of my Ds's friends!! Oh and one of the A*'s has to be further maths.

Horsemad · 28/11/2014 14:27

Thank you all for your good wishes.
Polka, you are right, he had a go and I ought to be pleased he has the confidence to try for these things! I am proud he tried Smile
waiting, yes I agree re Imperial's offers - absolutely crazy. These poor kids, the hoops they sometimes have to jump through.
Atia - DH has bought me 3 bottles so far! Grin

I happen to know that Imperial cocked up last year with their offers for Comp Sci. They made about 300 offers for 120 places and they almost all made the offer!! Grin So, because they then couldn't accommodate them all, they gave them a chance to defer to 2015. So some of their 120ish places for next year's intake are already promised to the 80ish who didn't get in this year.
I think this is why they are making seriously high offers.

polkadottyme · 28/11/2014 16:52

That explains it plus it seems unfair for those who applied this year chasing the few places they have left.

bluebellz · 28/11/2014 18:42

Feeling nervous. UCAS in two days ago. One offer so far but don't really want this place. We're aiming quite high and hoping for the best.

Ds has his A levels, in gap year. Okay grades but is taking two again for a * in one and an A in another. Just hoping unis will not be prejudiced. He's predicted to achieve this.

Horsemad · 28/11/2014 19:13

Oh it is an anxious time when that form goes off!! What subject is your DS applying for bluebellz?

bluebellz · 28/11/2014 19:23

Mechanical engineering

webwiz · 28/11/2014 21:29

DS's Exeter offer finally came through AAA at least that saves me the train fare for the post offer day.

Webwiz - Maybe you will get the same follow on e mail as MrsB's dc, lowering offer to A*AA if firmed....

OP posts:
webwiz · 28/11/2014 22:48

They are crossed off the list Littleham even if they lowered it if firmed. I'd be interested to see what happens to the English department in August, I wouldn't be surprised if they ended up in clearing after this daft policy.

webwiz · 28/11/2014 22:51

I'll pass that on to DS Coconutty it will make him laugh Smile

AmazingDisgrace · 28/11/2014 23:14

Exeter have gone bonkers haven't they? I wonder if this is to do with a similar issue to the Imperial one?

Horsemad · 28/11/2014 23:19

I'm wondering that too Amazing. There must be a reason why they're making such high offers... It's madness.

webwiz · 28/11/2014 23:23

I think its because they are trying not to be an insurance choice so they have a clearer idea how many students they will get.

Horsemad · 29/11/2014 07:05

Imagine if all the unis start doing that though! Offers will end up artificially inflated. Sad

I also wouldn't be surprised if Exeter end up in clearing next summer...
