Oh, Swansea's nice muffin Smile Seaside, Mumbles ...

cathyandclaire · 21/11/2014 16:13

Atia, you beat me to it! Was just about to come on and defend the tea and coffee shops of Mumbles and Joe's Ice-cream of course

Littleham · 21/11/2014 16:32

Swansea University has the most awesome Egyptology Museum (on the campus). It is open to the general public.

DD now has offers from cardiff and Bath so just 1 interview to go next week. This will be the most challenging interview ( 7 station format) but luckily is not her favourite (at the moment). Have a good weekend everyone. DD needs to spend a lot of time studying on work she has missed due to interviews and 3 day field trip, and also preparing for next weeks interview!

Mindgone · 21/11/2014 17:33

Great news Hellbells, well done to your DD! :)

Mindgone · 21/11/2014 17:34

DS1's friend is at Swansea and loves it, esp BBQs on the beach! Sounds fab!

DS was telling me to watch the freshers on tv. I don't think I want to know what they get upto!!! Grin

hellsbells99 · 21/11/2014 19:15

My mum has told me NOT to watch Freshers!

polkadottyme · 21/11/2014 19:54

Hellsbells- good idea don't watch it!! I watched one episode of the last fresher's show they did it was on students going to leicester uni and it was a proper shock. Students being promiscuous and getting a STI disease as I remember then it being laughed at and students getting to find out who it was on social network site. I Couldn't get myself to watch anymore??? I guess I've been living under a rock as some of parents I've spoke to aren't at all suprised with what goes on. I hope my dd is sensible

polkadottyme · 21/11/2014 19:55

Oops sorry horsemad I inadvertantly told you the sordid details of what goes on my apologise :(

DS has been sent all the details of a visit day from Exeter, they seem to have forgotten that they haven't actually made him an offer yet.

No sign of a Cambridge interview, it says on the college applicants website that notifications will be next week now. I think I may expire with the stress so have succumbed to Wine

Horsemad · 21/11/2014 22:32

Webwiz - same with Soton, all the details but no offer Hmm I suppose they make a decision after the 'informal' interview...

Horsemad · 21/11/2014 22:34

Polka, you didn't spoil it for me, I can just imagine the shennanigans they get upto! Grin

webwiz · 21/11/2014 22:39

I think Exeter have got themselves in a bit a tizzy Horsemad - they have made ridiculous high offers that they have now gone back on. Fortunately DS is more laid back than I am about it all.

seimum · 21/11/2014 22:49

Having now seen the details of DS's 'interview' day at York, it looks v similar to the 'post-offer' day that my DD1 went to when she was applying several years ago.

I wonder if the 'interviews' are just a way of identifying those who are serious enough about their applications to be bothered to travel to the universities they have chosen.

webwiz · 21/11/2014 22:54

DD2 had an "interview" at Southampton for Maths a few years ago. They said if you missed your offer then they had at least met you and could make a more informed decision whether to offer you a place. She didn't list it as a choice in the end so we didn't get to test it out.

circular · 22/11/2014 08:20

Wow - lots of good news and interview activity, good luck everyone.

Muffinmonster agree with others that Swansea sounds the best tea shop or weekend break location of your DDs choices lol

A bit of good news here - following audition, DD has a standard EE offer from her first choice CUKAS institution. Think that's helped to alleviate the post auditions stress, but she's exhausted and school work been suffering.
,
Hoping UCAS goes in in the next week or two. Believe only one choice interviews/auditiins. Can breathe for a while now, as a few quiet weeks apart from parents evening and school Xmas performances next month.

Horsemad · 22/11/2014 08:40

webwiz - I think Exeter sound a bit barmy with their ridiculously high offers!
DS hasn't applied there, must ask if any of his 6th form have.

cathyandclaire · 22/11/2014 09:29

Brilliant news Circular! Well done to your DD.Does she know yet if she'd prefer a conservatoire or Uni?

AtiaoftheJulii · 22/11/2014 09:49

Great news about your dd's conservatoire offer circular, hope that lightens her load.
