We seem to have reached the limit on the other one!

Have you many tutee's sitting exams this time?

Two GCSE, one AS, three A2. (Counts on fingers. Yes, don't think I've forgotten anyone!) Plus dd's doing GCSE and AS. Exam mode all round.

How did Latin go?

Anyone else for OCR Gateway P1P2P3 tomorrow? Dd2 is rather nervous, physics is her worst science.

sunshinecity17 · 09/06/2014 22:32

Did anyone else's kids do OCR maths?

MorvahRising · 09/06/2014 22:53

MrsMaturin DS was a bit indignant about the km to miles question too; he didn't know it and clearly hadn't watched that episode of Top Gear!

We've got Res Mat and Chemistry tomorrow, can't remember the boards and am in bed so will check tomorrow. Glad today's over.

They were given a distance in KM and a speed in MPH and told to say how long it would take to travel the distance. So you had to convert the speed to KMPH or the distance to miles and then work it out. If you had no idea of the conversion then you would indeed be screwed. Seems very unfair to me.

AtiaoftheJulii · 10/06/2014 00:06

It is in the spec though :(

Nocomet · 10/06/2014 00:18

best glad he did OK, it's slightly frightening to think
It's 30 years since I did WJEC maths. We were the first year allowed to use calculators and now the poor sods have been sent back to the dark ages - Why?

MrsMaturin · 10/06/2014 00:26

Is it in the spec? Dd didn't think it was.

bruffin · 10/06/2014 05:43

Dd was taken by surprise by that. Shw said they had never been told they needed to know that.

Best1sWest · 10/06/2014 06:00

Nocomet, 35 years for me! I really don't know why either.

AtiaoftheJulii · 10/06/2014 06:53

www.edexcel.com/migrationdocuments/GCSE2010/UG029981_GCSE_MathsA_Spec_2012.pdf page 63 or just find "miles"
Seeing as we are still so mixed re metric and imperial, it is useful to know them (for everyone imo, not just GCSE students!).

Oh dear! ds said he scrawled "Where's the scale?" across his paper for the km/miles one - says he took a guess

B3C3P3 here today. The physics revision he's been doing for it seems to be all about cars! Picking up a Top Gear bias in these exams Wink

MrsMaturin · 10/06/2014 07:54

Thank you Atia - so why was this a surprise to all our children?

Chemistry today - I did some Bitesize tests with dd last night and she was 100%. Hope she likes the paper.

MorvahRising · 10/06/2014 07:55

Res Mat this morning is AQA and Chemistry this afternoon is OCR.

We have been revising chemistry over breakfast. My contribution is to nod wisely and look knowledgeable.

I'm invigilating Chemistry C2 AQA this afternoon (probably foundation) and DS is doing OCR Chemistry, C4, 5 & 6. What joy!

marymoocow · 10/06/2014 08:43

sunshinecity my DS did OCR maths. He said it was good, but no more information than that, except there were some that he couldn't do (understandable as he was in the foundation set last year) but he had a stab at them all and 'finished' the paperSmile .
AQA chemistry this afternoon, then just 3 more to goGrin .

spongeypop · 10/06/2014 08:46

Does anyone else feel like these exams are dragging on and on. DD has another 10 days until its over.

AmpersandRea · 10/06/2014 08:52

DS 1 has Res mat and science today. DS 2 has science.
Counting down the days now!

MissScatterbrain · 10/06/2014 09:18

Chemistry (edexcel) C2 this pm.

nostress · 10/06/2014 10:42

Ds guesstimated the km question. I think if they have attempted it with a guess then they should get working out points even if answer not correct. His 'good' post exam was qualified later with 'well I knew before I started that I wouldnt be able to do the last three questions so it didnt freak me out'.

YeGodsAndLittleFishes · 10/06/2014 10:56

Design exam now. Chemistry this afternoon. Exams spread over 5 weeks in all, with Music theory a week or two after.

Good luck to all.

Hope all the DCs who came out of yesterday's maths exams feeling it was grim or hard are ok and able to move on now.

RaspberryLemonPavlova · 10/06/2014 11:02

Physics this afternoon here for DS. Gf is here for revision, apparently Big Bang Theory counts Hmm.

School just phoned to invite him on an Oxford trip in a couple of weeks. Don't want to tell him until after his exam, but really pleased for him.

Anyone any idea about a half GCSE in ICT later this month? Y9 daughter says they all have to do it and 'it will be useful for uni'.

TantrumsAndBalloons · 10/06/2014 11:04

DD said the maths exam was ok but she was very unimpressed with the KM to miles question, it seems everyone struggled with that one.

ds1 is doing chemistry today (yr 10)

DD went in for 90 minutes maths revision today and has just text me that she is home now and going back to bed Grin

Final exam Friday, maths paper again.

TantrumsAndBalloons · 10/06/2014 11:24

I was just thinking how pleased I will be when its over.

Then I realised that this time next year DS1 will be doing his GCSEs and DS2 year 6 SATS

Didnt think this through, did i?
