We seem to have reached the limit on the other one!

DD has chemistry IGCSE this afternoon. Don't know what board.

hellsbells99 · 10/06/2014 14:07

DD2 has AQA chemistry unit 1 today and then just physics left on Thursday. DD1 has finished her AS exams today.

RaspberryLemonPavlova · 10/06/2014 14:22

Tantrums I've had KS2 sats and GCSEs this year. If they hadn't stopped KS3 sats I'd have had all 3.

DD (y9) had an internal Maths exam the same week and there was more hooha over that than all of DS1s GCSEs and DS2s Sats put together.

Lancelottie · 10/06/2014 14:40

Tantrums, at least that means you don't have A2 and GCSE in the same year, I suppose?

MorvahRising · 10/06/2014 15:02

Today's verdict - both Res Mat (AQA) and Chemistry (OCR) fine and DS quite chipper. He was particularly pleased as the stuff he went over at breakfast today was really helpful.

Thank goodness we have a day off tomorrow, although he has to go in for a Physics crammer.

Ds found Chemistry ok. The countdown is on two left both on Thursday.

LeapingOverTheWall · 10/06/2014 15:17

AQA Chemistry was "really good" apparently - day off tomorrow, then Physics Thursday and finishing with Maths on Friday. Whew!

TantrumsAndBalloons · 10/06/2014 15:18

Ds1 just text me- chemistry was A LOT harder than physics.

That doesn't sound good does it?

Uninformed · 10/06/2014 15:27

Chemistry today, Physics on Thursday, Maths on Friday. D/S's state secondary school has decided to replace the astroturf, (involving digging up the undersurface with pneumatic drills) during exams season! Couldn't they do it during the holidays?

So the kids are given a choice, windows open and do your exam to the sound of the drills and heavy lorries directly outside the exam room, or windows closed and work in stifling heat! Who would do that?

Do they even care about the kids or is it all about keeping up appearances? Should I (am I allowed to) name and shame them? Why don't Ofsted and Michael Gove care about this behaviour? Why does everyone think it's OK to treat kids like this?

MorvahRising · 10/06/2014 15:38

Gosh uninformed that's ridiculous! Can the parents get together and complain formally and get the work postponed for a week? That really is appalling.

AQA chemistry was 'good, really good', lets hope it wasConfused . R.E. tomorrow - "oh I'd better go and revise"Hmm . Physics Thursday, maths Friday.

Leeds2 · 10/06/2014 16:06

Don't think DD's chemistry went terribly well.

Uninformed, that is appalling. I think I would complain, and get as many other parents as possible to do so too.

MissScatterbrain · 10/06/2014 16:11

Agree that this is terrible - so unfair on the children.

DC arrived home in a happy mood - Chemistry was easy. Next exams are Computing and Physics on Thursday.

hellsbells99 · 10/06/2014 16:15

DD said chemistry had a couple of odd questions on it but otherwise ok. She is talking more tonight so things are obviously ok. Just physics to go which is one of her favourite subjects Smile

bruffin · 10/06/2014 16:44

DD happy with chemistry as well Smile

RaspberryLemonPavlova · 10/06/2014 17:02

DS not happy with physics, said the difficult bits were difficult. But also said everyone felt like that. Its the subject he eventually wants to study at uni, so I think he felt more pressure.

Leeds2 · 10/06/2014 17:11

Miss Scatterbrain, Hellsbells, and Bruffin, were your DCs doing the IGCSE chemistry?

Dunlurking · 10/06/2014 17:14

My ds very unhappy with the AQA Chemistry, He's ranting about weird useless examiners gently moaning that he didn't understand what the questions were asking or getting at. Anyone else with a dc who struggled understanding what was wanted? DS went into the exam fairly confident and has come out with his confidence shattered Shock

nostress · 10/06/2014 17:37

Yes my DS also unhappy with aqa chem he said they were asked in a weird way. He said worst exam so far. His GF enjoyed it but shes predicted A* in science and english. She said they were asked in a weird way but was ok.

MissScatterbrain · 10/06/2014 17:37

Leeds - no, Exedcel C2

Looking at TSR - it seems it was an easy paper for everyone....

nostress · 10/06/2014 17:38

He really needs a B as he wants to do A level biology he will be so gutted if he misses a B... :(

bruffin · 10/06/2014 17:54

DD did AQA

Unexpected · 10/06/2014 17:55

Sorry if I missed it, but am I the only one whose dc was doing edexcel Chem today? DS1 predicted A* for Double but thinks he probably only managed a B in today's exam. Said the 6 mark questions were more straightforward than usual but the others were hard. Now that he's had a bit of time to think about it though, he feels maybe it went better than initially thought. Told him not to think too much about it and get on with Physics for Thurs, in case he needs to drag up the Chem mark!

dunlurking - that's how my dd was with the first Biology paper. It was awful but I don't think from talking to her that she actually cocked it up. it just doesn't feel comfortable. So it may well be that your child has actually done fine but felt out of their comfort zone. It is so tough to see them like that though isn't it?
